  • Here are the Thames Television "Midweek Sports Special" Highlights of the 1985 London Evening Standard 5 - a- side tournament.
The tournament was played at Wembley Arena on 13th March 1985, it was won for a record 5th time by Queen's Park Rangers who beat Arsenal in the final on penalties.
The R's Ian Dawes received the "Player of the Tournament" award, this was helped by an unheard of headed goal, this in a tournament where the ball can not go over head height!

Shame there’s not enough time in the season to stage these excellent tournaments anymore, most enjoyable 👍👏⚽️

Even if there was enough time no club would let there players play in this or any tournament other than the norm that makes money not some 5-a-side tournament for FUN lol, I'd be surprised even if they let there u23 players play!!! The only players you would see play/be aloud to play in a 5-a-side tournament for FUN like this are the youth team players(FOOTBALLS NOT FUN ANYMORE ITS A BUSINESS FOR THESE SORT OF PPL THAT OWN CLUBS) First team players are worth too much to the clubs these days even shit squad players are worth £20million ...... players back then was made different - today players are made of paper mache

Greaves never liked Chelsea because they stopped him joining his boyhood team. He had to go and play in Italy for a year and then join them !

Greaves deliberately missed out Chelsea because he still had the hump with them for stopping him joining Spurs.
