This is such an exquisite song and brings tears to my eyes each time I play it. I chose it for my husband’s funeral, my personal interpretation of the words.Thank you Kristine.
She speaks Russian to the native standard (raised in the Soviet-era Baltic States). Phonetically Russian is very similar to Czech as a Slavic language.
@gnilttbs Those differences are negligible and these languages are phonetically are a lot closer than they are apart. You are just nitpicking and trolling. I have no desire to engage with a troll. End of story.
Parole e musica struggenti e intense. Bravissima l'interprete.
Whenever I listen to her exquisite soprano , sadness is coming In memory of Mrs Miku Ishida As the days go by , I know that the day to return to Mother Earth is not far away . My only regret is that I have not heard from you I'm worried you who have suddenly lost touch with me From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
Thanks for sharing this amazing interpretation by the fantastic Kristine Opolais. Met her a few years ago at the stage door and not only has she a wonderful voice, she seemed also a very likable person. Just sad to see the opera house more or less empty.
My Dad loved opera and when my sister got married she wanted a different song to march down the aisle to, my father suggested this and she loved it. Other members of my family (I don't remember if my brother used it but definitely two of my cousins did) used this song as well and it's now the wedding march of my generation in our family. Depending on the size of the wedding party and the length of the aisle, a little creative DJ-ing might have to occur cos the "O moon, stay a while!" 02:24 is the part where the bride herself walks down the aisle.
This performance was notable not only for the lovely singing, but because the director did not ruin it with endless moving shots. He, or she, kept the camera not only still, but not too close up. So many performances are ruined for me by eccentric directors and their bad camera movements. Bravo, or Brava, to the director.
You think THIS is "lovely singing"? Unfortunately there is an epidemic of terrible singing infesting the modern-day world of opera, and this singer is a case in point.
After listening to her exquisite soprano , my tears and sighs are a testament to the tip-top admiration I might have a dream of joy and sorrow of falling in love with someone The dream is the ultimate in bliss for me From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising 🇯🇵
Excellent diction. Superb performance. I studied this piece so I know how hard to make a clear diction with specially long breathing phrase. What a great interpretation! Bravissimo!
Ramon Gener na suptilan jednostavan način predstavio operu Rusalka A. Dvoržak, Kristina kao glavna protagonistica uvjerljivo famoznim glasom, glumom i svojom ekspresijom, ljepotom dala nemjerljiv dojam, extraordinary perfomance...
Such a beautiful performance. Love Kristine’s voice and stage presence! I also love this opera and have watched the recent production with Kristine in the title role. She was absolutely terrific. Love her🌷
Decisamente una delle più accreditate in questo ruolo, che divide dramma e sogno, accoramento e destino. Una buona tenuti di timbro che a tratti stempera le necessarie sonorità
I don't care a damn what language she is singing in or whether any other soprano is more to your liking. The sound she makes is amazing , moving anf unforgettsble. So there . from m. (86)
Thank you for this release. Thanks to all the incredibly talented individuals who made this possible for us. Can't wait to be able to get back into my local opera house
Kristine Opolais is a vivacious and beautiful woman. She is a wonderful singer with a huge talent and she exudes feminine warmth and beauty both on stage and off. As a Czech, I have to say I am pleased - even excited - to hear our beautiful, rare language in whatever medium is on offer. Although opera singing ostensibly hardly resembles conversational language use (it is laughable how different are the two vocal styles) a native of the country will still use the conversational test to detect accurate portrayal of the language by a non-native. Although she does not quite pass this strict test, I admire people like Kristine who can get their Czech to pass for a native, to the casual observer or someone who learned the language in order to live in Prague for a time, having come from another place. She gets an "A" from me nonetheless, because Czech is very difficult due to its many dialects, its intonations, idioms, slangs and correct word pronunciations and vowel sounds. I take off my hat before this amazing woman. Not only does she do a great job, she is really easy on the eyes
Wow, found it back. What a music and performance. Strangely enough does the youtube algorithm not prefer this rendering as a lot of others. But it was there somewhere on the bottom of the list.
I know I am a minority of one, but my favorite Song to the Moon is sung by Fredericka Von Stada. She was a mezzo soprano, but she really nailed this aria, in my opinion.
Now we are a minority of two. I must agree that Fredericka von Stade gives the most beautiful performance of Song to the Moon that I have heard. Consider me a convert, and thank you for the suggestion.
It's amazing how much we take for granted. I feel like I am sitting in my seat at the Metropolitan Oper again hearing this again. Everyone has brought this piece together and should be congratulated. Wonderful!!!
This is such a moving piece, particularly given Rusalka's ultimate demise, and this production captures all that emotion. It is brilliant on many levels so well done to all involved in making this happen. :)
English Translation of "Song to the Moon" Moon, high and deep in the sky Your light sees far, You travel around the wide world, and see into people's homes. Moon, stand still a while and tell me where is my dear. Tell him, silvery moon, that I am embracing him. For at least momentarily let him recall of dreaming of me. Illuminate him far away, and tell him, tell him who is waiting for him! If his human soul is, in fact, dreaming of me, may the memory awaken him! Moonlight, don't disappear, disappear!

This interpretation is not my cup of tea. Too much vibrato in the voice and the tempo is too slow. If you love this melody I would refer you to studio recordings of Gabriela Beňačková and late Patricia Janečková (knowing she is not with us anymore will put tears in your eyes).
Кristine красивая женщина, но голос не собран, качается и из за этого звучит по- стариковски. Где же критическое мышление и ухо ? Kristine is very beautiful woman, but the voice sounds old. Where are ears and self criticism?

I break down and sob like a baby when I hear this ... sometimes just thinking about it
I am sorry for your loss. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Ok but, can we all appreciate the harp girl for a second🖤
Yes, absolutely outstanding harpist!!🎉
As somebode who comes from Czech an knows how hard is our language, I think she did an amazing job. Bravo!
Wow, her pronunciation is amazing! As a Czech, I understood her very well (which is not always the case) :)
Try to listen Netrebko or Fleming. You will also understand all...🙂
She speaks Russian to the native standard (raised in the Soviet-era Baltic States). Phonetically Russian is very similar to Czech as a Slavic language.
Lovely. But Milada Subrtova version more to my liking.

Superb in every way.
Pappano is extremely slow - I admire Kristīne that she could sing under this! That already shows how amazing she is.
Agreed. Tempo was almost aggravating!
But I think she is singing better than with her ex husband

The best aria from Rusalka is by young Anna Netrebko... It is beautifuly soft and melodic...
