It’s funny I was thinking about fishing in games like Red Dead Redemption, which is essentially just a minuscule mini-game in the grand scheme of things. I’m not sure the actual fishing experience is any better in this dedicate fishing game.

I was in your boat @DienekesShade... pun intended. Actually was pretty excited for the game to come out a few months ago. I had ideas that this could be some crazy good stuff. But it does seem a tad too arcady and that dang big STRIKE thing just taking the... I was fearing when we hadn't seen any gameplay at less than a week away from release, other than the "walking out on a that little wooden bridge and casting once." I lost pretty much all hope this was gonna be the next big thing. Hopefully they do turn it around somehow.. but as it's looking right now.. that's a looooong road down the line. Foe a game that talks about realism and authenticity, it has a little too much Arcady-ness going on. Like... Tinkling bells sound when a fish nibbles at your bait. The STRIKE banner across the screen when you get a bite. and the fade to black and selfie cam when you are just about to grab the fish. Grabbing the fish and unhooking it from the line is part of the whole fishing experience.
I noticed this as well....unless the gear ratio for the reels he was using was extremely low but even then it looked like he was hauling his lures in really quick..
It's cracking me up that the character doesn't smile AT ALL in the catch pictures. It's funny to me because I did a parody video of fishing youtubers a while back called "The Stoic Fisherman". Instead of screaming, "YEEEEESSSSS GET IN THE BOOOOOOAT" when I caught a 3lb bass (fairly unimpressive, but a nice fish) I simply deadpanned, "That is a fish." Stuff like that.
It doesn’t even show the fish coming out of the water? The heck? That’s the best part of fishing - when you see it hit the surface a time or two before you finally net it. If they keep it like this - big flop.

Im going to be honest. As much as I love theHunter and seeing what these developers can do when it cames to creating such a beautiful game, I am very disappointed in what i saw in this video. And I understand its an early access, but I feel like they haven't even tested their own game. It seems like you MIGHT be getting about 24fps at certain points. The UI looks like its an Xbox 360 indie game. Very arcade like or ever slightly cartoonish. The character model and equipment models are awful. Fish models are decent but could use some work for sure. And on top of these few things, all of the issues you mentioned in the video as well. If I didn't already know, you would NOT be able to convince me that this game is from the same developers as theHunter. Im just not impressed at all. I want to like this game, I really do. But it's going to take alot of work before I buy.
Looks like they have a solid game here but it still looks as though it's still in an alpha state. I guess it's gonna be yet another case of launching less than complete and improving over time. I'm not that big into fishing to begin with but this game still looks like it has promise so I'll keep my eye on it.

I wish it was harder to catch big fish, it really isn't super realistic to go out and catch a huge pike, a pretty big bass, and then a huge rainbow trout back to back to back. Also, I think it would be a way better, more realistic game if it was just harder to catch fish in general, instead of every cast.

Idk if u noticed when filming this but ur drag was set at 30 and the big fish had less then half tension on ur line, u could have made it harder for the fish to pull your drag but let him take all ur line out instead
An aquarium would be great to put those big trophy fish in like the lodge in cotw so you can go back and see them swimming around. An old ps2 or ps3 game did it
The game is beautiful, the character models look kind of uncanny but that’s about all I’ve got. Seems like it controls a lot like RDR2 fishing which is pretty easy on its own.

Try Russian Fishing 4 in the meantime. Its similar. Graphics are obviously worse, cause its an older game, but the mechanics are much better refined - Probably the same reason. And its free.

Not sure if it's the graphics settings.. but the fish look low res and dry af when in the character's hand. There is no sheen, there is no refractions of scales, there is no wet. Just a low res stale "texture" and it's sad. The fish's eyes are stagnant to the texture too, which is why it looks lifeless. It needs more bump in the mesh. The eyes need to be bumped too so they look like eyes and not painted onto the fish. I mean, that's the point of fishing.. seeing the fish, and for most, seeing how pretty the fish is.

Agree. Think it will be a solid year before the game is actually good. It's rare for a game not to be a let down at launch these days..

Did I just saw his tension meter turn red during a rainbow trout fight? What are you fishing with? A 2-pounds test line?
Get rid of that damn tension meter! A line will never just break if your drag is set to the right tension for your line strength...
Devs want your gear to break so it becomes grindy.

If your line is about to snap, you have to decrease the drag so the fishing line won't break.

I got them on high, with motion blur on, and brightness at 50 should be the settings it comes with automatically 😂 I haven’t messed with them tbh
When you're pulling back on the ride I feel like the Camera angle should be half on the rod 1/2 looking towards the fish

@@noodles466 It may be innacurate to you, but not to me. Opinions differ, and I choose to have a very positive opinion, others may have a neutral or negative opinion. Not everyone thinks the same and not everyone has the same preferences. It’s a shame that people seem to forget that nowadays.
i had high hopes for this and this is completley different to what i was hoping for, iv fish lures for over 4 years and absolutley love fishing and probably spend to much money on it, this games doesnt look good so far.... very

Not sure if it's the graphics settings.. but the fish look low res and dry af when in the character's hand.
There is no sheen, there is no refractions of scales, there is no wet.
Just a low res stale "texture" and it's sad.
The fish's eyes are stagnant to the texture too, which is why it looks lifeless.
It needs more bump in the mesh. The eyes need to be bumped too so they look like eyes and not painted onto the fish.
I mean, that's the point of fishing.. seeing the fish, and for most, seeing how pretty the fish is.
