@Toyota Maintenance. Hey Peter, That napkin in the fan and filter is probably the mice trying to make a nest. Good thing is that it looks like it was caught early before the fan got damaged. The owner needs to move that car a bit more and put some sort of mice repellent under the hood and inside the car cabin that is safe for people and the car. Oh, and thanks for pointing out where the blower fan resistor is located.
Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

I think if that cabin air filter wasn't correctly installed there would not have been an issue other than the disgusting filter, I sense a quickie shop install, great job Peter as always.

IT seems to me that the cabin air filter was inserted wrong, it should be rotated 90 degrees. There seemed to be a big gap on the right.

I admit I have a bad case if OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) 😁but if it was ME, I would have disassembled 'squirrel cage', washed it with soap/water, then sprayed with Lysol spray. I'd ALSO spray the new filter with Lysol before installing. Its jst me. I wouldnt expect any mechanic to do so. Mice/rats carry so many diseases.. I've installed cotton balls sprayed with peppermint oil so I dont have that trouble, I live near woods. I'll see how it works.

When I bought my Sienna used two years ago, we found a baby mouse skeleton in the blower cage. Common problem if you live in the country and do not drive much or it is stored. They get in thru the cabin air intake hole. Mice are small enough . The Sienna was stored for a year. I had inspected by a garage and they missed the nest under the cowling. We cleaned it all up and all is fine

Put Lots of moth Balls All Around That Engine Bay That Will Keep The Mice AWAY. I Used To Have The Same Problem With My Tundra The Mice Cost Me Many Thousands Of Dollars Around 6 Years Ago. With The Moth Balls It's Been Fine I Buy The Moth Balls At Walmart Cheapest Place I've Found . They Come In The Box With 3 Plastic Breathable Bags Every Winter Like Clock Work I Put Fresh Bags All 3 In The Engine Bay. It Works.

Why does it look like there was hole in the plastic just above where the cabin filter goes? Like a square hole that does not look factory?

Good video and, yes, looks like either the wrong size filter or re-insert it turned 90 degrees. Probably just used it to finish the video. I've replaced many of these and they are a perfect fit in that slotted area.

I am glad Toyota had the good sense to put 2 glove boxes in that car. Every car should have that, as the space goes unused/wasted otherwise.

I have not seen the video yet, I just test drove an 09 where turning on the fan on full made the whole car shake... My initial guess, because the alternator has been changed twice in the car (according to Toyota dealer records), was that the battery was just crap and it had just hit four years old... Now I will watch and see you what my friend has to say...

  • @joelh3030

My 2012 corolla was starting to have this issue, I removed the blower and there was no sort of activity or a mess. I hit the blower with a blow gun and hit it in the tightest spots, under the fan blades, etc etc. It stopped making any noise right after and I havent had an issue ever since. I think these get bad if youre not swapping out your cabin air filter, The less dirt the longer life of the blower.

It's always worth replacing the cabin air filter with a carbon cabin filter, rather than a cheaper alternative. It's a better filter bar far, read this (Googled) "Carbon air filters can be effective at filtering VOCs from the air. These are gaseous substances that most other mechanical filters like HEPA filters, cannot touch. Benzene, toluene, xylene, and some chlorinated compounds are among those that may be removed by carbon filters".

  • @fastwalker21
    @fastwalker21 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Firmer box framed carbon air filters are best, some factory oem’s are far too flimsy. Had one for 2 years and 15k still looked like new. Peppermint essential oil dilute with water and spray to deter rodents. Yes, really works.

HI! Your videos are informative and sensible. I am a DIY'er. Can you please make a detailed video on replacing a 2011-2017 Toyota Sienna mode motor that controls the ac/heater. I haven't seen one video on youtube doing that. Thanks and appreciate your videos.

The mice in my Corolla got in through the trunk vents (under the trunk carpet), the engine air intake and the vent areas under the windshield wipers. I had to add hardware cloth

That cabin air filter was NOT the correct fit. 3/4" to 1" of a gap is not the design.
Parts matching software can be in error way too often. I've experienced it a minimum of three times that I can recall.
