I picked the worst army (financially) to collect...i want at least 1 of every unit or character per chaos god.....the addition of the new thousand sons and death guard armies are amasing for battle and artistic appeasement but extremely bad for my wallet... £984 this week alone just on HQ characters 😂😓😭

But is there any referance which year it was? I need that info as part of lore for my fan based chapter or at least faction thats part of the chapter.

How do chaos space marines conduct planetary invasons given their small numbers?
Considering that space marines are a rare and limited resource, with chapters containing only a 1000, which was also the number of the thousand suns after the burning of prospero; wouldn't that make most warbands very shorthanded during planetary invasions as planetary invasions can easily involve hundreds of millions to even billions of combatants on both sides?
I always imagined they had to solve this by relegating the vast amount of objectives to their mortal/daemonic/dark mechanicum servants while deploying chaos space marines only for the most important/decisive objectives.
If you invaded a planet with only a few thousand warriors, it would surely be a nightmare to cover every battle... and that is assuming absolute minimal losses and not a single defeat! xD
In Horus Heresy, space marines consisted of around 100.000 marines total. A chapter, 1000 of space marines are sufficient in achieving a victory, such are their combat potential over mortal foe. In w40k, Chaos Space marines have their entire enslaved navies while on land, they have armies numbering millions. Space marines are shock troops. They are here to go in hard, smash everything to bits and get out. They are very good at huge conflict where one needs to distribute forces widely and they are remarkably bad at tasks such piloting machinery (pilots, tankers) and assaulting entrenched infantry with heavy support. Space marines are here to take up crucial tasks of war, day to day fighting are for the Imperial Guard and Chaos slaves.
