    i imagine Nurgle could conjure up a disease that constantly mutates itself as it passes from host to host and the hivemind would constantly have to evolve to deal with it, kind of like the Flu

    • @glassknife3383
      @glassknife3383 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      This would make the nids incredibly powerful. They would have to ramp up their evolution process so high that any threat that wasn’t nurgle, would immediately have forms adapted to destroy it within seconds. The nids could use this to gain more biomass by consuming the rest of the factions while simultaneously evolving the shadow of the warp so it not only blinds chaos, but consumes it as well. GW kinda messed up by adding tyranids because they’re entire play style revolves around using an enemy against itself. Kind of like in the incredibles where they get the giant robot to impale itself with its own claw because it was the only thing strong enough to penetrate its armor.

    • @anthon0360
      @anthon0360 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      @@glassknife3383 I would argue against that, because the Tyranids only evolve to combat the current threat, and if they just focus all their energy on combatting a disease, they won't be able to focus their power onto other threats. From what I've seen so far on the lore of the Tyranids, they focus their might on whatever current threat is happening, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention how they've adapted to multiple issues at the exact same time.
      Just because they are ever evolving to combat a disease, doesn't mean they're just gonna suddenly start evolving rapidly for everything else. And if it does, everyone else has plot armor as well and they'll just match the power.
      40K seems to be "LOOK HOW STRONG THIS GROUP IS" then the other groups say "Yo, me too!"

    If Nurgle isn't careful, this means of using the Tyranids for his own ends could be his undoing.
    He's basically forcing Tyranids to mutate to adapt to a problem, but if it's not killing them and they can figure out how to co-exist or even use it to their own adavntage than they could use what they have to combine with other genetic designs and so on. If Nurgle can use his infection to speak to others, who is to say the Tyranids couldn't hijack the process for themselves. Their hive ships already have enough pyschic power to block out any near warp, witth their own pyschic link on a extra-galactic scale.
    So if they figured out how to 'jump in' on that communication, the Tyranids may be able to hijack Nurgle's own followers for their own ends. Way I see it, Nurgle is playing a very dangerous game.

      Ou since you mentioned homebrew I'm beginning to look into getting my very first army and for fun I happened to be thinking like Khorn guys who we're trapped and decimated by Tyranids since chaos suffers so much that they're basically reduced to near mere guardsmen without the warp. But nonetheless these being Khorn guys they make a big go of it and enough form up a band that'll be of course the minis (say, 2000 points worth?) And they've managed to form a crusade to eliminate Tyranids for the blood god even though he entirely cares nothing for their skulls, eventually they figure they'll kill the hive mind and the disruption of the warp would leave, and the handful left would take quite a lot of chaos upgrades once they get back in contact for all their non-warp chaos heroics. I figure I'll have to massage fluff to make it fit and obviously wouldn't be a very good army to actually play against anyone in any competitive capacity, just for funsies. Del Toro gets my vote, but as far as a movie goes it'd have to be self contained. Kinda like Event Horizon ISN'T officially part of 40k, but it wouldn't be a stretch if it was just a story about one of the millions of ships that were lost to the void. Basically something that can easily stand on its own and get reception for what it is, while at the very least feeling "inspired" by 40k. Unfortunately those days of movie making are long dead and if there were a Warhammer live action movie it'd either be Starcraft'd or low budget syfy.

    It's worth pointing out that whilst Nurgle does technically "brew" pathogens in a cauldron as if he were in a lab with a centrifuge, working on manipulating actual DNA/RNA to develop traditional physical diseases that can and do transmit through traditional means (air/blood/touch, etc), his corruption is also metaphysical. He doesn't need to rely solely on the physical transmission of disease for it to spread. Under and in certain scenario's the influence of the warp is stronger than in others so it basically becomes a battle of minds to keep corruption from manifesting directly through the warp. If a splinter fleet were to enter a particularly strong manifested warp storm it probably wouldn't be strong enough to emit enough of a shadow to keep its affects at bay. Which is to say there's no reason a fleet couldn't spontaneously become infected via random contact with the immaterium.

    The Shadow in the Warp, the Tyranid Hive Mind, is basically a Warp god itself. To effectively take over tyranids, Nurgle might have to displace the Hive Mind in that role.

    In all my years of immersing myself in 40k lore, there have always been two possible conclusions to the Great Game lingering in the back of my mind. One being that the Tyranids reach Terra and finally destabilize the Imperium. And the second being that Nurgle's followers slowly but surely turn every single world in the galaxy into a Plague Planet, winning the Great Game through pure attrition over millennia. This video gives me pause though. Interesting food for thought.

And then add in the Destroyer Plague, the Walking Pox, the Zombie Plague, the Chortling Murrain, and all of the Grandfather's other glorious creations. Pure nightmare fuel. Well then! Had a Dark Heresy game (last campaign of a trilogy, so everyone high level, one of us got promoted to Inquisitor), the ultimate plot was a nurgle cult who wanted to perform a ritual to infect a hive fleet about to attack with the taint of Nurgle. So first we had to stop the cult then, co-ordinate the defences of the system against the Hive Fleet and take out its main connections. We exterminatus-ed a planet, a good time was had by all.

    The fact that Nurgle was successful in infecting a Hive Fleet and mutated them into his own puppets is bone chilling yet refreshing. The Tyranids are usually seen as the unstoppable nom nom bugs that are rarely defeated in battle, and it feels so nice for a different force to be able to beat them. Not saying that nobody else has defeated the Tyranids before, but this is just extremely refreshing.
    Though of course, there were other scenarios. Like how the Tau outsmarted that one Tyranid Hivefleet that one time. Or at the Devastation of Baal where the Tyranids and the Hivemind were smacked across the face by the opening of the Great Rift and then were stabbed in the heart by Ka'Bandha and his daemonic incursion at Baal, with the Warp devouring thousands of Tyranid Hive ships and probably killing hundreds and hundreds of millions to billions of Tyranids in a matter of seconds.
    Or how the Necrons on multiple occasions surprises the Tyranids before curbing them with their op technology.
    And the Imperium's plot armor telling the Tyranids no and defeat them somehow.

  • @Powershade117
    @Powershade117 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This idea might be a little...out there, but hear me out. Here is an idea that I just came up with on how to do Nurgle Tyranids, although this is done in a subtle way. I think there are some examples of Nurgle plagues that attack the soul as much as they do the body, giving Nurgle a way in to whisper to those infected. Honestly a genius move from Nurgle would be to create a disease that doesn't affect the Tyranids, so it is ignored or goes amiss as it doesn't do anything to them and hides within their biology. And this disease is held dormant inside the bodily fluids of the tyranids; saliva, blood, venom, anything. This infection only comes about when these fluids come into contact with another organism; a bite that leaves tyranid saliva behind, getting splattered with blood, injected with venom, etc.
    What happens then is that this disease mutates explosively, overwhelming the tyranid DNA left behind and infecting the host. I can't say for sure what will happen because the vectors of infection are different and thus the symptoms are as varied and adaptive as the tyranids themselves. But the end result is the same; a bloated mass of Nurgle-infected flesh that also bears some tyranid traits as well, but these have just been hijacked by the Grandfather and used for his own purposes.
    Some results could include, but are not limited to...
    -An arm that shoots toxic flesh borers that carry Nurgle's plagues within them
    -A creature sprouting a new pair of scything claws that look tyranid-like, but drip with chaos-corrupted toxins
    -A bloated monstrosity that vomits a highly toxic bile that is also swimming with tiny little insects that seek to eat you alive. If the toxic vomit doesn't get you, the secondary payload of bugs will.
    -Even plants are not safe, as perhaps a bed of flowers splattered with this blood will wilt and then develop the ability to shoot venomous barbs at any life form that gets close.
    -Trees being awakened like the ents of Tolkien folklore, but becoming lumbering mounds of rotten wood and twisted flesh all mingled together in a repulsive union.
    This is Nurgle essentially using the tyranids to spread his contagions in a subtle way. So while it isn't as simple as simply Nurgle infecting the tyranids directly, it is instead Nurgle infecting other people by USING tyranids to do it...the result being a horrendous mixture of human, tyranid, and Nurgle

      Nids can't enter in the warp or the connection with the hive mind will fail, that's why the shadow on the warp helps them a lot, not only as a camouflage to psychic powers, but also to null those powers. This is another reason why the response of the hive mind to the warp is the hive fleet Chronos, they can close warp portals with the shadow of the warp while fighting demons in the distance, only restoring biomass when it's necessary.
