    Love the video, very soothing to watch. Also, I really enjoy watching you work. The way you approach a project is very different from how I would, which is very refreshing to watch. I love seeing how different talented craftsfolk, such as yourself, work through a project. And love the improvization of yours with the flocking, i.e., no applicator or color, NO PROBLEM. :D

    Very nice project and like the choice of wood used. However during the video I was waiting for a Minecraft Zombie to come out and scare me. Thank you for the idea and will definately use this.

    Nice gift, well executed! You can tell your "family" I, a stranger on the Internets, am a bit miffed at being brushed aside, along with the Split Top Roubo, for "family"!!! ;-) Happy Birthday, BIL! And, many more!

      Trust me, I would have *much* rather worked on my bench. There were a few times where I had it setup where I was able to use it (like the dominoing) and it was a dream to use, if not just a bit wobbly :(

    • @RXRSawdustStation
      @RXRSawdustStation 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do know what you mean, Paul....most of my absences from the shop are "family" related, in one way or another. Soon enough, though, your Split Top Roubo will be a reality, and you'll have a happy family at the same time. Btw, I'm a bit "wobbly", am I not put together right? ;-)

      Perhaps you are, but you could just claim it gives you a unique varying perspective on the world as you topple over? ;)

      Ah, perspective; the key to happiness in all of life, wobbly or no :-) Keep the sawdust flying, sir!

    nice project, I would have designed it with some walnut spline joints to really dress it up and do the pull out of walnut too. But that's me. Nice job.

    G'day Paul, nice work & easy listening music to accompany it, just curious those jointer guards look irritating mate & make me think that the manufacturer might think we are all oblivious to the cutter head possibly being something to be aware of, Sawstop technology is fantastic but other machining safety techniques perhaps in instructions can help for being aware of hazards, anyhow enough of my blah blah mate because you do great work on this channel 👍🏻🇦🇺👍🏻

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      European vs American style guards for the jointer. The American style is the 'mutton chop' which is spring loaded, while Euro style is the adjustable thingie thing. The "advantage" of the Euro style is that its pretty much impossible to put your hands over the cutter head, so if something slipped/broke, its really unlikely of any sort of injury. The American style is much more convenient, but technically can be more dangerous. Does it result in more injuries? No idea!
      I think the problem with any safety gear is no matter how good a safety invention is, somebody will always invent a better idiot. I've seen so many people just flat out remove *all* safety guards on jointers, then funnily enough over in r/woodworking half a dozen jointer related "short finger" xrays pop up!
      End of the day, I don't think there are any combo machines with the mutton chop style. Per "setup" (as I typically will batch out one operation at a time) it requires a few seconds to setup, but thats about it.

      I have a video on this! th-cam.com/video/JVeBM-jmHGU/w-d-xo.html In summary though, this was shot all on a 750D, using a 18-35mm & 50mm f1.8 lens. Maybe two scenes used the 105mm macro (didn't use the macro feature, but its a nice lens if I can get the tripod back far enough)

    cool! did you flock it with acrylic paints?

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The store I bought the flocking from (the only one in drivable distance) doesn't sell the adhesive because they don't seem to "believe" in it. I used red+purple acrylic paint to get a similar tone (though lighter) and the white was just some clear drying PVA.

    another great video Paul. As you're an Aussie I was waiting for you to pull out the Gifkin jig and use dovetails instead of dominoes :-)

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a box joint jig, but honestly didn't have the time to do anything but set-and-forget dominoes. I likely won't ever get a Gifkin jig, its too dang expensive (the fully kitted out version isn't far off the price of a domino!) and I haven't been overly impressed by the demos I've seen at the woodwork shows.

    • @geoffsemon7411
      @geoffsemon7411 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought just the basic kit when I first started getting interested in woodworking but I have to agree the full vindaloo is way too much. I'm saving to buy a sawstop contractor the same as yours for christmas :-) and once I have that a box jig will be first on my list of things to make. Keep up the great videos

    Cool vid man. No luck finding leather for the boxes?

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not on short notice, the wife could only find some very thick psuedo-suede/felt, and that didn't work out (took too long to dry, then didn't fit right because of the folding, etc)

  • @tooljunkie555
    @tooljunkie555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice one paul! no flock in the drawers? or was it overkill? either way looks great love the design!🍻

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Flocking was a very late change - originally the wife wanted leather, which she couldn't find, then it switched to suede. Putting suede in the drawer just wasn't going to work, so I glued up some nice hardwood panels rather than plywood. Then it turned out the suede was too thick, and we had to go to flocking (which I suggested to her originally!). By then I was too cranky to flock the drawers ;)

    • @tooljunkie555
      @tooljunkie555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Jenkins oh man all those changes yea id be too.well,,it looks good with out em..i was just introduced to flocking (band saw boxes) and i love it.so much better and cheaper than suede in my atea anyway..i hope u and yours have. Good night

    Flock applicator... A friend suggested a tube of Pringle's and a tube of 'Woolies' home brand crisps. Wollies being a bit smaller tube, fits inside the Pringle tube. Punch some holes in the smaller tube base and Vuola An applicator for less than half the price of CARB-TEC ... and Calories to munch on while you wait for the flock to dry ;0

    • @TheWoodKnight
