I left etsy after I had a brand new shop put a claim against me that I stole their design even though i had been on there for over a year at this point. they did not even contact me or try to "investigate" they simply suspended me and informed me I can no longer sell that box design as it was someone else Intellectual property. I still have my account but lost the largest selling item. jsut not worth it anymore with the number of knock off stores selling mass produced items under the claim of hand made.
The only thing that really makes sense is that they think you are somebody else who was previously banned. Same name as somebody else or someone who lived at that address. They don't care about banning anyone new that breaks the non-existent rules but they will be damned if that lady from 12 years ago when they did care is going to sneak back in.
Huh, we moved in about 12months ago and have had multiple letters from the magistrates Court for the previous occupants, and the police at our door three times looking for them so this theory could be on the money. I wouldn't have thought of that but makes "sense"
Definitely this Paulo. If courts and police involved and Etsy had also been contacted about them, it would go a little way to explain why they refuse to communicate with you, for pure fear of getting involved in any proceedings or litigation.

Honestly at this point I'm not sure - refunding like Matt said *might* work, but given how back-to-front Etsy is I wouldn't be shocked if they then charge me a range of additional fees because of refunds and claim its because of "suspicious activity" for a suspended shop. It has always been that way. First year they started I tried buying an ash vial. In short it was over thirty bucks. They were 2 for ten at a hobby store or fifty cents each direct from the company. They may say "handmade" but good luck.
You are perfectly right to be angry about this treatment. It wouldn’t matter if it was only $1.00 - it is 100% unethical and wrong….and possibly violates laws - though I’m sure their legal team has covered all those bases. Chin up and carry on. I will certainly not use Etsy

That is precisely what Etsy was created to do/be. Create another platform and these 'traders' (I'm being incredibly polite) will still jump on the back of it. Maybe it needs to be highly limited content - one-offs or nearest best thing to it.

Can absolutely understand it putting that knot in your stomach. I get that about injustices too, especially where some big company is throwing its weight around just because it can. Like you say, maybe that money isn't important for you to put food on the table but etsy doesn't care either way - it could have torn a hole in some aspiring maker's finances. I get that all these big companies run on algorithms now but the least they could do was tell you why. My suspicion is they're using a machine learning algorithms that gives predictions but no reasons. Won't be buying from etsy again.

Instead they bite that hand that should be feeding it. I would suggest letting your parliamentary representative know about the issue. The problem with market places like Etsy is that they operate without any checks and balances being in place in the market they operate in. Buyers do have protection in the UK where I am, but sellers no. And being denied permanent access to a market is in competitive in my opinion and unfair. They should be forced to explain a decision.

Unfortunately Etsy is big enough that they really don't care and most of those emails Etsy dish out are very likely automated. I hope this sentiment towards Etsy grows to a point where it will be a natural attrition of their market share. Don't take this personally champ. Keep looking for other platforms that works for you. There are small platforms aus-based for us aussie makers out there, however hopefully choices will grow.

It's tricky isn't it? I was looking at building some non-woodworker-targetted things - salt cellars, maybe some other boxes - but now I just don't know... "SquareUp" (in some places its called Square Online, I don't get their branding) (squareup.com/au/en/online-store/plans) free plan is only 2.2%/sale, rather than 6.5%+transaction, so its an option... but then you don't get the general "marketplace" and potential drive-by-shopper, you'll need to leverage your social platform. But if you were to ever do craftmarkets, it does integrate with Square Readers. The small side income type stuff I would have used Etsy for is a lot less... worth it if I need to run/maintain my own service, invest in marketing/advertising/etc
A problem shared goes some way to resolution whether within yourself or because Etsy gives you a fair and reasonable solution. Time for Australian consumer regulation to go into bat for us.

Yes, you'll need the socials like YT and Insta to advertise I think 100% of your sales came not from Etsy, but from the video. I'm only selling digital on there, and every day I half expect an email saying they are booting me, but I rely on them for finding the market so... damned each way. I got a 'soft hold' on payments for a while because _I sold too many things_ as a new store. I mean.. wtf?!
You're completely right, for what I currently do, I don't need the "discovery" part of Etsy. For the stuff I had planned (salt cellars, other boxes, etc), I was hoping to have that just tick away on Etsy, but uhh, thats less of an option now 😅 Leveraging social media/youtube/etc is going to be the better option - perhaps I'll have to do "drop" style sales where its launched for a limited time etc. I'd be updating your money-deposit-schedule to every 30minutes from Etsy to be safe! 😁

Hi, I have never used Etsy and after hearing your complaint I never will. It is discussing the way you have been treated and the total ignoring the fact and because they will not let you know what you did wrong in their eyes you would never be able to correct anything in the future. It is obvious that the items were of reasonable value due to the quick sale of the items, and then to withhold your payment should be illegal.
I sell exotic wooden bookmarks on Etsy and haven’t had any issues but this story has left me with a real sour opinion. It’s not right what they’re doing. I’m strongly considering getting through my current inventory and moving elsewhere. Really sorry this happened to you.
I have a different kind of neurodivergence but still understand how gutwrenching it can be, even if the analytical part of my brain can see that it's not that big a thing. This is terrible. I don't like buying from etsy, and these stories just keep me away from that platform more. I know its no use to you know but ive bought from people that have both an etsy store and an eBay one. Found the item via etsy but bought it via ebay
I use a third party to move and sell thru. Pseudonyms and everything because I am , per the VA, 100% disabled and most of it is me saying bats it crazy things... In short I don't engage with the public anymore sans a very few that know what 7 combat tours can do to a guy... I recommend paying someone under contract to handle the sales... Few people can ever engage with an artist even when the artist is " normal".

Yup that’s why I have 5 different stores which are all separate from each other. This just helps dropshippers who know how to readjust to bans.

I honestly think with the limited quantity of things you make, the quality, and the time between batches you can skip online marketplaces and sell them direct off your website Paul. Yes, you'll need the socials like YT and Insta to advertise I think 100% of your sales came not from Etsy, but from the video. I'm only selling digital on there, and every day I half expect an email saying they are booting me, but I rely on them for finding the market so... damned each way. I got a 'soft hold' on payments for a while because _I sold too many things_ as a new store. I mean.. wtf?!
You're completely right, for what I currently do, I don't need the "discovery" part of Etsy.
For the stuff I had planned (salt cellars, other boxes, etc), I was hoping to have that just tick away on Etsy, but uhh, thats less of an option now 😅
Leveraging social media/youtube/etc is going to be the better option - perhaps I'll have to do "drop" style sales where its launched for a limited time etc.

Hi, I have never used Etsy and after hearing your complaint I never will. It is discussing the way you have been treated and the total ignoring the fact and because they will not let you know what you did wrong in their eyes you would never be able to correct anything in the future. It is obvious that the items were of reasonable value due to the quick sale of the items, and then to withhold your payment should be illegal.
Probably not financially worthwhile, but I wonder if you could file a lawsuit and an attorney could subpoena their records.
Easy needs to show restraint and not give a shit to sellers.

I sell exotic wooden bookmarks on Etsy and haven’t had any issues but this story has left me with a real sour opinion. It’s not right what they’re doing. I’m strongly considering getting through my current inventory and moving elsewhere. Really sorry this happened to you.

I have a different kind of neurodivergence but still understand how gutwrenching it can be, even if the analytical part of my brain can see that it's not that big a thing. This kind of thing feels like a fundamental rejection of me as a person and that makes me want to fight. I hope that you can find some peace with it if you can't get a resolution

It's such a shame, the idea behind Etsy is wonderful, but the execution, just terrible.
Those suspensions are randomly done by their bots sometimes. If you appeal you can usually get your store back. I got my store back.
Two appeals, they closed the first and haven't responded to the second... and other support tickets they've closed/ignored too. I don't think I'll be as lucky!
Your problem was selling a quality product instead of a cheap 3d printed item cloned from another product

I use a third party to move and sell thru. Pseudonyms and everything because I am , per the VA, 100% disabled and most of it is me saying bats it crazy things... In short I don't engage with the public anymore sans a very few that know what 7 combat tours can do to a guy... I recommend paying someone under contract to handle the sales... Few people can ever engage with an artist even when the artist is " normal".

That's what happens when you lay off thousands of employees, most of them those who work on moderation and costumer support. Also Etsy isn't for makers and crafters any more, they are just for cheap chinese junk and scammers. Good riddance!
