Making a Watch Box

  • Hi everyone. Thank you for watching. This box has a pretty simple design with the main feature being the oversized front and back pieces, which create a half inch reveal relative to the sides. The dimensions are about 14.25" x 10.5" x 4". The maple grid that holds the watches was not glued into the box, it simply sits inside. I also did not glue in the top and bottom panels because they are solid hardwood and need room to expand and contract.

    Beautiful box. I love the design especially how the sides stick out. This just goes to show that if you make a box it doesn’t always have to be a box with equal sides that meet each other.

    I learned at school, that the best way to hold your material on the planer is by placing your hands flat on the material and then slide your hands over the guard of the planer. This way you will keep even pressure on the material! I went to a school in Rotterdam (the netherlands) called HMC specialized in furniture making!

    Can't wait for the review on your Scorpio Jointer/Planer. Was just looking at it yesterday at Canadian Woodworker in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Might buy it in the next month. One important question I have on it. I have a Dewalt 735 and upgraded with shelix cutterhead. If I plane tight grain wood such as hard maple, I run my fingers from side to side of the board and feel all the low and high spot from different hight of the carbide cutters. Hard to see but easy to feel. Nothing a thickness sander can't get rid of but still drives me crazy. On porous wood such as oak, it is harder to feel the ondulations. So back to my question, does your Scorpio planer do the same thing?
    Thank You
    Gilbert

  • @lobsterer
    @lobsterer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pro tip: don‘t spread your fingers when using the European styled guard for the jointer. In fact, always keep your Fingers closed and move workpieces with the Palm instead of fingertips. Otherwise it’s the easiest way of losing them ;) this also counts for the tablesaw. Source: Am Professional joiner, educated in Germany
