After a couple years in China, I learned only to eat at Muslim Chinese restaurants. Other restaurants made me sick so many times… but the Muslim restaurants answer to a higher Authority - and hold themselves to higher standards of quality - than the provincial public heath department standards require.
For me it was the opposite, as much as I liked the halal restaurants, whenever I went to those restaurants I got food poisoning. Four times in a row is more than coincidence!

Living in NYC, I have access to Muslim Chinese food. Absolutely delicious. Some of the best meals here. Even the Halal Chinese food restaurants that's serve standard Chinese food tastes way better and fresher than the regular Chinese spots.

You can learn some basic expressions on Duolingo! I'm learning italian on it and it is super useful
Most Chinese don't call them Muslim food. They go by Chinese name. You can find their restaurants all over China even in Hong Kong, Taiwan.
