It does help if you can speak their language though... Shows that you're actually prepared to make an effort in getting to know, not just them, but their culture. 'Cos I doubt the Western approach would win you many friends over there! Particularly with older generations.

I know this is an older video but I've been watching a lot of your content, and I noticed that in a few videos you use the phrase, "at my back" where it would sound more natural to say, "behind me." The phrase "at my back" can sometimes mean "behind me" when using an older, more theatrical, or more formal English such as, "At my back loom the towering heights of Hong Kong," but is more commonly heard in reference to things against your back, (i.e., "The wind was at my back.") or to direct someone to focus on your back directly (i.e., "Look at my back", "Swing it at my back."). You may already have picked this up by now, but if not it may help you sound more fluent in English. Good luck with your channel!
I was once referred to as a “black devil” by a mother and daughter in an elevator. When I responded in Mandarin that I was not black but brown, they nearly collapsed from shock and embarrassment.
The mom at 4:57 was so extrovert and wanted to show her daughters the example, like Fel, you can just speak English to people. Also Fel, it's amazing how fast you produce these videos and translate them so fast. Although as a person that is sensitive to crowds and sounds, i still sometimes just like to see this type of thing in person... then run back into my turtle shell. Which is why i like the city i live in. I call it a little big city... also i miss the crazy stuff i used to see on douyin, before it became hard to share the stuff from the app. edit: did you say celebrities doing live streams?!!! my CDrama heart could not take it. Looking at these various videos of different countries and its everyday citizens, it just goes to show us that it's our governments in our countries that creates the enemy vibes. Of course, every country has their idiots but for the most part people are out being good for society enjoying their lives and conversating with like-minded foreigners visiting their country. I have been blessed to visit Thailand, Japan, Philippines, and of course various cities in Mexico.
Life in China is great if you not care about democracy e political freedoms especially in the biggest cities. Just do your thing, care about the economy and you'll be fine.
As a language learner it honestly frustrates me that some people will speak to you in English even though you clearly speak their language very well and are in their country. I know I should just go with it, and I think you handle it really well here with the woman from Shandong. I know they also want to practice their English, or in this case, show off a little in front of their family. But I often perceive it as making me feel like an outsider, a foreigner. I want to get closer to their culture and people; that's why I learned the language. But then they keep switching to English, either as if to say "My language is too difficult for you", or "You don't speak well enough," or "You are lao-wai, so I will use your wai-guo-ren language." Incidentally, this is probably the biggest problem that learners of German have.

Alipay can take foreign visa or master card so they’ll convert it then you can directly in rmb
