    did you have to recite your 5s and 10s word for word and doing them both right after the other? I ask because my memorization with that kind of stuff is not very good and my road test is on the 10th for the seasonal driver position. Also, did you have to drive in reverse a lot? If so, are there backup cams and was it difficult? I've driven delivery full time for 14 months using a small van so I've found myself using reverse a lot and utilizing the backup camera. Great video. Sorry for all the questions.

    • @Adutide
      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will not be driving in reverse. They recommend against it due to the large portion of crashes at ups. The 5-10 will depend on who tests you. For me, I had to describe them and show understanding of each one while taking the test. So pretty much recite them but as I took a stop or turn or kept my distance from a car. Some supervisors require you to know them word for word others don't.

      @@Adutide thanks for the help! I passed my road test and my DOT physical :) next up is orientation on the 20th. Good luck on your driving test! @kittensworkshopmcrae5878 mine was 10 minutes total of driving a super shaky diesel step van with the check engine light on lol. You can mess up on certain things and still pass. An error is anywhere between 6-20 points on the road test and if you accumulate 125 points then you fail, so you have a lot of wiggle room. After they let you go, because they have to let a UPS worker take that job if they don't let you go so they do . We would bid on the job if it was a real job that was going to Last. You are let go and come back to start from the bottom and I know people 4 years in and still they are not a full time driver. Don't even waist your time, hire on after it's over so you really have a job and you can really be a real UPS worker and in the union. They keep nobody, we see it every year

    A few questions that I have.
    1. What are the physical requirements of working at UPS and can you use a dollie to accommodate if you suffer from chronic back pain?
    2. How fast-paced is the job?
    3. Is the job the same in all locations in all states?
    Whatever information you can provide to me would be very helpful. Thank you

    • @Adutide
      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When it comes to your back pain you will need to pass a physical for this job. If you can't pass a physical that requires you to pick up 40 pounds they may not accept you. You will be issued a dollie but it's not in all the vehicles and they do want fit people. The seasonal driver is not crazy fast pace. As long as you get your 40-60 stops done in 8 hours you will be fine. However, if you want to be hired afterward you need at least 20-25 stops per hour. I have only worked in Arizona so I can't answer question 3.

      You must pass a DOT physical exam. They yest for basic vision, hearing, blood sugar, blood pressure, and overall ability to lift heavy packages. This is required only for driver positions. UPS requires the ability to lift up to 70 lbs, or at least manage a weight like that. UPS delivers packages up to 150 lbs. If you're not able to handle things over 70 lbs, you can call in for help. It's very physical.

    Did you have to go thru the UPS driver school (integrad) or do they not make seasonal drivers go thru it?

    • @Adutide
      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We went through a week long course for drivers we had permanent and seasonal with us. You are out on a 3 days training with a supervisor where they drive your route to show you for the first day or 2 than it’s you that drive in the 3rd day. If you are permanent my understanding is that you have a 30 day period where you are fully timed meaning you need to be done within 8h or so and it’s about 100-150 stops. The Tempe AZ areas is notorious to have their new drivers do an impossible route. Meaning you will need 10-12h to complete that route but the computer only gives you 8.

    Couple questions, I've heard a lot of new workers are made to help out after their shift, is that extra time paid?
    Also what is the fuel situation like in the trucks, do you get gas with your own money and if so what kind etc?

    • @Adutide
      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UPS has its free gas pump. They are at the warehouse where you depart. If you need to fill out outside for whatever reason they will provide you with a company credit card. For gas every truck is different. Most use unleaded but there is a few diesel. You will be helping out other drivers after you are done with your route. Anything past 8 hours in a single day is considered overtime. However seasonal don’t usually get more than 3-6 hours to complete their route since it’s only about 20-40 stops.

    • @Adutide
      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Road Test is in the small brown truck. There is about 3 different type of brown truck. The small one is about the size of a Uhaul just higher. The test is very simple. The only difficulty is the speed. You have to get used to those truck sounds/speeds. You will have to put your foot on the pedal since those trucks can be pretty slow. Most are capped at 70 miles per hour anyway.

      @@dmorales949494 usually, you will have a supervisor with you for about 2 days showing you the route you will be doing every day. On the first day, he will do all the work while giving you instructions. On the 2nd day, you will be doing it all with his supervision. After that, you will be on your own for the rest of the season. Hey quick question did they offer to hire you at the end of the season?? Also I applied for the tractor trailer seasonal position with there being a truck driver shortage have you heard of any guys getting hired straight into the truck driving position off the street?

    • @Adutide
      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting hired from seasonal into Brown truck from the street is difficult. When I was there it was 9 warehouse employees who needed to be considered to become drivers before they higher 1 from the streets. For UPS you usually start at the warehouse loading trucks and move your way up depending on your background. We were all allowed to work at the warehouse after the season ended but that's for minimum wages and it's only a graveyard shift. It's seniority-based to become a driver. You also mostly work 30 hours per week at most. (this is all based out of Phoenix, AZ, other states may be different). Also, drivers were not getting paid 175k when I was there so idk how difficult it is now.
      Having a CPL is a different story. I heard it is much easier for truck drivers and you get paid about double what the local drivers get.

      @@d_smoove1204 As I said it's a state/location thing so check with your local ups. They do make you sign a document that states that you are not guaranteed work after your contract expiration date of 31st December. If you are earning more than what they are paying for seasonal in your area and don't want to risk having to start at minimum wage consider looking elsewhere. We were getting paid $23 an hour now it's probably close to 30 but I am not sure.

      @Adutide  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s hard to get overtime as seasonal. UPS is a union base job. As a seasonal you are a contractor. Yes you fall under the union but you have no seniority. UPS is seniority based. Meaning more season driver gets priority on overtime. I got only 1 week with Over time and the other driver started to complain and we never got overtime after that.
      HOWEVER, if you are on your normal route and it just takes you longer than 8h to finish all delivery you will get OT for any additional hours. You are technically only suppose to take 8h for your route but sometimes you need to help other driver and you can do a 12h days. Meaning 4h will be consider OT even though it’s Monday.
