    A superb restoration. Was the text (at 1min 58sec) repainted into the book St Thomas' was holding?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Joseph. Thank you for the compliment. The original writing was really just scribbles so what we did at the request of the school was we applied actual text from Summa Theologica to the repaired book surface. It did look a little different, but the new lettering was actually more historically correct.

      @@BrushworksStatueRestoration Seeing your amazing restorations, I can only imagine how effective the book surface and actual text looked. I think I've watched all your videos and would be eager to see more of your work sometime. [BTW I'm a Catholic and was trained in sculpture (BA Hons) some years ago, so really appreciate the your skills and dedication.]

      Wow! That’s quite a compliment, and we thank you. We do have a number more videos to go, but it just seems hard to find time to edit them together. Thanks for watching the ones we have posted. We do get a lot of positive feedback and that’s very encouraging.
      God bless and merry Christmas!

      Thank you. And we couldn't confirm an age on this one. But our best educated guess would be at least 60 years.

    Amazing work!! What do you use as the finishing coat? Is it a clear gloss ? I’ve painted a damaged Saint Joseph here at my house but it needs a gloss of some sort. Not sure what I should use. Thanks!

      Thank you so much, Sheila and Rick. For most of our projects, we do not apply a final lacquer, as it can change the look of "reality." If your statue will be handled, you can consider a clear, matte (or glossy if you wish) lacquer. We use this locally-sourced medium/varnish. wallacks.com/products/wallacks-fluid-medium . But you must be very careful and use very thin coats as some lacquers (not this one) may contain thinner which can harm or even wrinkle the paint coat underneath. Then you've really got a mess to fix. If your statue is intended for outdoors, you'd need a thicker water-proof lacquer that won't yellow. In our opinion, it should also be applied by brush rather than sprayed. Hope this helps. If you'd like our opinions specific to your particular project, feel free to contact us via our website at www.statuerestorers.com ( click "contact us") and we can correspond from there. God Bless.

    What kind of paint are you using?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Duje. On this project we used Zinsser123 base primer coat. Then several coats/layers of Behr Marquee primer/paint mix. I write "several," because there are at least two coats throughout, but in some places, Pauline had to blend additional colours and apply additional coats to achieve shading, particularly in the folds and creases of the garments. Hope this answers your question. Take care.

      @@BrushworksStatueRestoration I'm repairing Jesus statue. And how do you resculpt a missing piece of statue, for example a whole hand?

    How did you attach the head?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. We used two-part liquid mixed epoxy to secure the head to the base, then sculpted the structure using a product called Apoxie Sculpt. and the final outer layer was HydroCal plaster.

    What kind of primer paint do you use? What kinds of final paint?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Norma. We use Zinsser primer and depending on the project (indoor/outdoor and delicate or large/hardy etc) we use premium Behr latex or artists’ professional grade acrylics. Hope this helps.

    What on earth happened to that statue

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Matthias! From our understanding, some high school students were roughhousing too close to their patron saint! He fell to the floor and..well... you see the unfortunate result. But we're also told that those same students were invited back to see the restored statue and gave it a thumbs up! (hopefully from a distance? Haha ) Take care.

    I respect the skill but dislike statues of religious figures for the idolatry it inspires. When they break it reminds me of Dagon's statue that God beheaded and cut the hands off to show the Philistines what they worshipped had no power.
    1 Samuel 5:4 King James Version
    And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
    If you don't know how to get to heaven I have one video from a trustworthy pastor that explains how. You can know for sure because Jesus Christ is the one who paid the price and promises to save all that believe in Him to do so.

      Respectfully, we do appreciate your comment on our work, but we urge you to read up on the Catholic faith to clear up the common misconception held by many Protestants. Catholics do not "worship" statues, they don't think statues have "power," and they do not practice idolatry through statues. If you care to learn, here's a good starting point: www.catholic.com/tract/do-catholics-worship-statues . I hope that helps you. But there are many excellent and informative writings by Saints including St. Thomas Aquinas, and many very insightful online sites that can help you better understand, if you're interested. Best wishes.
