im 55 years old tried 10 different macallan of 37 so far macallan 18 and rare cask was the best one!thank you guys sharing this video! greeting from Sweden:-))))))Basse
They seem to be around the same price and I get my homie a nice bottle of whiskey for his birthday every year. Would you recommend one over the other? I feel like I’d go with rare cask just to be different- I always try to get something unique
I was able to get my hands on some E150a coloring. I wanted to sample it to see if it actually had a taste that I could pick up in some whiskeys. Come to find out it doesn't have any flavor and all I did was dye a little on the inside.
Just popped over to ralfy's channel having never heard of him. I have to say, i really enjoy listening to him because it's clear he's passionate about it and loves it. Plus the accent is awesome.
So, because of this channel I’ve become a bartender and because y’all I know so much about whisk(e)y I’ve gotten interviews. When I have my gig come get a drink.
Been watching the channel for a while. Your the last two videos have been making my hospital stay a lot easier. They say I can drink on Friday and since I nearly died at 23, you bet your ass I'm spending good money on a bottle on Friday! Slainté guys
I’m sure Ralfy’s compassionate conversational style is due to his occupation. But yes.....a master nerd....not a snob....who can express a strong opinion on something, but leaves you to make up you own mind. He has been my first “minister of the cups”, and I’ll always point to him as my start point!
Rex and Daniel; Thank you for all you do on the Whisky Vault. It helps us at 3 Sheets to the Mouse get through the day, especially since we all were just fired from our job at the Orange Juice factory...they said we couldn't concentrate.
Thanks for the reviews and tips. I started trying to drink Irish whiskey, and realized I've been just telling myself it's good, when in reality I can just drink it and not be bothered like I use to. Tried makers mark today, and hot damn now I know what it's like to enjoy a whiskey. Thanks for producing such badass videos.
Nerd Alert: Rex, the honey you are thinking of is most likely forest honey...It is darker than regular flower nectar honey, with bolder, deeper, richer, but also more varying flavours. It is made in fact from forest aphids eating tree sap, when they've had their fill they excrete the rest, this is what the bees collect off of trees from which to make said forest honey. It is less prone to crystallisation as it is lower in glucose and has higher mineral content. It's personally my favorite honey as I can't eat flower honey since I stuck my hand in the flowered honey jar as a 10 yr. Old, and was reduced to toilet hugging after. Why I stay away from Dalwhinnie and Balvenie type whisky.
So, in honor of Rex, I have a story. I have recently gone home to visit for Christmas, and found out that my Best Friend had an impressive liquor cabinet. I proceeded to mooch Macallan 12: double cask(to compare to the Macallan 15 purchased for me by the same man), Aucentoshan 12, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban(12), Lagavulin 16, and Hibiki Harmony. It was a good day. The moochatood was on point. And I now understand why Lagavulin 16 is legendary.
I love Macallan. I have tasted many Glendronach`s, Aberlour, Edradour und so many other sherry cask whisky`s...but to me Macallan has just such a beautiful balance between distillery character, cask influence and the right ABV for their whisky. Dont get me wrong...every other whisky i mentioned is amazing...but to me Macallan is the perfect everyday whisky that will never be boring to me.
Can't believe you mentioned Donn's Depot. On my last and only second trip to Austin I lucked Into finding that place. What a great spot full of real people. So cool!
The full speech about Macallan is so true. I am not the biggest fan of their stuff because it is all very overpriced and you can get better whisky for similar/cheaper prices. However, they do always seem to make easily drinkable whisky. Good watch guys. Keep it up.
I think you mentioned a great video idea!!! You guys should compare expensive well known name brands to a better value cheaper whisk(e)y that is in a similar flavour profile. Example Johnnie Walker double black and Black bottle. Would love to find comparable to try along with you guys!!
The commentary on ABV for these rare and expensive scotches is spot on.. We have multiple $300+ bottles that are watered all the way down to 40% at the store I work at, and all I can think is "Who in their right mind would ever pay for that when there are cheaper, equal quality bottles with higher proofs?" Hell, even Glenfiddich's 50 year (or whatever their oldest bottling is) that retails for over $20,000 is watered down to 40%!
Trait openness is (often) necessary for "the big idea". Trait conscientiousness is (often) necessary to ensure ongoing execution. The two are (almost always) necessary in successful endeavors over time. Here's to a good partnership!
LOVE the Ralfy mention !!! Ralfy is THE man when it comes to whisky reviewing! Macallan is good, not great. I agree that Rare Cask is a very good whisky, but not worth the sticker price. But that’s par for the course with Macallan. Which is why I don’t buy any.
Hey Rex, I think that dark honey flavor you describe could be Fleeceflower honey. You can normally find it from smaller honey merchants. It’s boasts a dark roasted flavor almost reminiscent of a dark maple syrup. It’s a flavor I find in whiskey as well.
Great video guys and liked the Ralfy Shout out as well class act from you gents, the Macallan Rare Cask is good but I would agree with Daniel as its mostly marketing currently however the Editions range is really good. Whisky TYouTubing is fun sharing tasting notes and ones journey to discover more whiskies. Slainte gents! also Rex didn't mooch on this one, Rex those could be anti-mooching pills, just saying lol
The “Dark rich honey” could be buckwheat honey. When bees hit a buckwheat patch they will produce a very dark strong honey. I think it tastes like whiskey! My in-laws and my daughter harvest honey. They always bring me some of the buckwheat kind when it’s used as a cover crop
You guys should definitely do Tincup American Whiskey. It is a high Rye Bourbon from Colorado cut with water from the Rocky Mountains. It's getting really good reviews and I just believe it's getting overlooked as it is advertised as an outdoorsman whiskey giving the impression that it is not very friendly but in reality is the opposite.
I think what you're reading as hate for Macallan is more disappointment with Macallan. They've just churned out so much NAS whisky this past decade that it's hard to respect them anymore. My first whisky was a Macallan 12 yo in a bar called Maxwell's Plum from a bartender named Stu in 1985. It was in a brandy snifter and Stu gave it to me for free because he just knew I'd love it. He was right.
Yup. Also Macallan’s Doublethink marketing is incredibly disingenuous. “Age doesn’t matter! Spend eleventy billion dollars on Rare Cask! Or Macallan M!” followed by “This Macallan Sherry Oak is TWENTY FIVE years old!!! TWENTY FIVE years old! Age matters SO MUCH!! Give us eleventy billion dollars for it!”
Hey guys I've been watching yall for a couple of weeks now, and all I can think is why the hell I haven't been watching yall? I work at alamo drafthouse in the stone oak location in San Antonio, and I'm a bartender there. But from watching yall I talk to customers about the history of the whiskey we have and they love it. Love you guys! Keep doing great shit. Oh and I just got a bottle of Bruichladdich.
Love you guys. But just a quick question. With all that light streaming in and so many half opened bottles and even unopened bottles. How do you guys prevent your whisky from going bad? I ask this as I’m trying to find an optimal space for my mini collection and in your other video you guys said dark, non windy, no temp fluctuations.
Hey guys I found The Macallan Rare Cask at one of my favorite shops but they also have a bottle of Glengoyne 21 at like half the price. What’s your thought go for the gusto or grab Glengoyne? Or do you have a better suggestion?
Cool video. In Germany I can get a Jim Beam Black, Eagle Rare 10yo, Johnny Drum Private Stock, Noah´s Mill and a Blantons Gold for the price of 1! Macallan Rare Cask. :D
Hello Daniel, Rex and, everyone from the whisk(e)y tribe!! The name is I-rum.. (yes it's a U sound) I have come to a fork in the road in this journey of finding delicious whisk(e)ys. Currently I'm just a rookie, trying bottles like Glenffidich 12, Monkey Shoulder, Crown, Jack, and Jim Beam. This weekend my local Wine/Spirit distributor will be having a tasting of some very sine bottles. I only get to pick one of five. My options are, Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year, George T. Stagg, Thomas Handy Rye, and William Larue Weller. I don't know which I should try. I will be taking a friend with me so he can pick a different bottle and I can take some of his drink! Thanks for all the vids, and have a good one!
Hope somehow y’all(or anyone with knowledge) sees this but it looks like 18 year and the “estate” and others are in that price range. Would you recommend this over them as a gift? Friend is super into whiskey and want to get him something cool
Had Rare Cask on a recent trip as a splurge pour. It was amazing. It is, up to this point, my favorite Scotch. I'm collecting a vault...sporan at this point...of my own. 14 so far. I began with Tobermory and Ledaig because I'm a MacLean and we hail from Mull. But nothing I've tried has been as good as Rare Cask, to me. So hers my question... What is similar to Rare Cask but more affordable as a regular dram (under $60)?
So....Is the Rare Cask worth the price or would you definitely spend the $300 on something else? The videos are great! I only started watching them over the past few months but I find myself binge watching all the older episodes whenever I have time! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I have watched Ralphie longer than I have watched you. Here's the thing about him. He's been so long on youtube that if something comes up and I don't know it hell have a vid on it. He either has done a review or will do a trusted review if it's new. You do about the same except he knows things no one else talks about. I'm going on to long but he recently reviewed a co. By name open since 1914 he had a bot made in 1920 he'd bought at auction and he opened it and drank it.--amazing.
Hey guys. I’m new to your channel(s) and also new to learning more about whisky. Really enjoying your content so far. I think it’s awesome you gave props to Ralfy at the end of this vid (and support him through Patreon). Not coincidentally, his channel was the other whisky channel I subscribed to when I subscribed to yours.
Hey guys, love your videos, im looking for a review on two MacAllan whiskys, the Amber and the Sienna. I can't seem to find them in any of your videos, please help me to know if they are any good, i really want to know your thoughts on them! Hahaha thank you guys!
It was interesting searching for all the Bars you mentioned using Google Earth. It's pretty cool to hear your comment, then type in the name (plus "Austin, TX) and then go there. Click on street view just outside each of these bars and you get to look at the Bar and look at the location in Austin. It's almost like traveling. After I put a little yellow push pin at these locations: "The Roosevelt Room", "Peche - French Restaurant", "Donn's Depot", "The Blackheart bar", and "Fado Irish Pub", it made me want to travel to Austin, TX and visit some of these bars. Ya know, it's not that easy to hear you mention a name, then try to get Google Earth to find a location based upon the sound... when Daniel said "Peche", when Rex said "Fado" the sounds you guys made were kind of a challenge to work out. I guess that adds, makes it a little more interesting. You guys should try a version of this where you give a vague sound and have people try to figure out what restaurant or bar name you're saying. Fun! Cheers...
We have this bottle at the bar i work at 34 dollars for 2oz. Do you guys think this is exesive. I certantly do. Ps. Still love you guys keep up the great work
Thank you very much, Andrew, for bringing up U2~ I never told anybody ever, but I always wondered how people went crazy about their music. There is not even one album I was ever tempted to get. Again I just dislike their music. I love Brian Ferry! David Bowie! This is why I love your show!
@WhiskeyVault You guys are awesome and hope to meet you both one day. You're both doing great things to help share and spread the knowledge of liquid gold. Don't tell Rex but Daniel you are my favourite! Slainte
Hey guys, really enjoying the video's! Have you guys ever tried Finlaggan original? It's an Islay single malt, being sold for 20 euro's here in the Netherlands, quite curious if I should buy it, being a music student(double poor, haha!) Cheers, and greetings from The Netherlands Jop
Love the videos and reviews, I watch everyone you guys put out. You guys are among my favorites. So I asked a few of my fellow whiskey buddies on Twitter their opinions so now I wanna know yours. I saw at Costco here in Albuquerque they had the Macallan Rare Cask priced at $225 and they also had the Glenlivet XXV priced at $230 and I was thinking about maybe getting one of them. Since I'm not to familiar with either which one would you guys recommend? Also if you have suggestions for other bottles in that price range for me to look at please let me know
How do we make it popular, or the mark of a great whiskey, to become cloudy when water is added?...because that's what the reality SHOULD be, that you actually want your whiskey to be cloudy when water is added because it shows that it hasn't been tampered with by filtering or diluted by the distiller...there needs to be a "Make Cloudy Cool" campaign...
I need your help, I’m now addicted to buying whisky, thanks to all your videos I can’t stop going to the shop at lunch and getting a new bottle for my collection, I want to make sure that I’m not narrowing my horizons so can you give me one whisky from each country and each region in Scotland that will allow me to get a feel for the variety out there, ps I have already bought all the whisky from your best bang for your buck video
Jack Wright Try the following from each region and it will give you a good feel for the different flavors: islay: Laphroaig Quarter Cask / Bowmore 12 Highlands/speyside: Aberlour 12 / Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Lowlands: Auchentoshan 12 The other regions aren’t very different. Japan: Hibiki harmony America: Eagle rare 10 / michters small batch / belle meade Ireland: green spot / redbreast 12 Canada: whistle pig. But mostly just try whatever piques your interest!
Have you guys tried “Dads hat” rye whiskey? if not I want to donate one for you to try because it’s made in my home state, Pennsylvania. Would I just donate enough money for you to buy a bottle or should I buy one and have it sent to your mailing address?
Great video ( but for the SAME price, i could vatt 4 bottles -1 each: Abunadh60% + Farclas(60%)107 + Allachie10yCaskStrength58% + Dronach12y/46% = shake + sit for 2 weeks ... VOILA: i get 4 bottles of the ENTIRE Speyside spectrum of flavours at 56% abv! ! ! )
Daniel and Rex, every once in a while you two will have a 40% ABV whiskey and groan that, if they had left it a little higher proof (43-46%), it would have more character. Could you add a ultra high proof neutral grain spirit in a tiny amount to bring up the proof, or will this simply not be the same as if the distiller had just not watered it down as much? Would those extra few percentage points of aged alcohol contribute noticeably to the flavor vs a neutral grain spirit?
Bryan Lushbough no expert but from what I've gathered, adding neutral spirit to bring up the abv wouldn't taste the same as drawing it from the cask and leaving it at a higher abv. Most likely due to the aging process in the barrel and the chemical reactions that occur over time.
That will also dilute the whisky. Basically the original alcohol that was there has the flavor compounds and the grain alcohol does not. As such you will lose those flavors.
im 55 years old tried 10 different macallan of 37 so far macallan 18 and rare cask was the best one!thank you guys sharing this video!

Noice
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant 😂

ha!
Just popped over to ralfy's channel having never heard of him. I have to say, i really enjoy listening to him because it's clear he's passionate about it and loves it. Plus the accent is awesome.
Ralfy is the gold standard of whisky reviewers. So happy to see that shout out here. :-)
So, because of this channel I’ve become a bartender and because y’all I know so much about whisk(e)y I’ve gotten interviews. When I have my gig come get a drink.
hell yes!
I love the shout out to Ralfy the OG of TH-cam whisky reviewing! Let’s get him over 100k mark!
"Usually alone... because it's preferable."
So relatable.
Nice job sending folks over to watch Ralfy. I've watched his stuff for years, enjoyed his perspective, and now yours, on different types of whisk(e)y.
It's hilarious when rex doesnt realise he's reading a dad joke, until it's too late ahah
Macallan is like the apple of scotch haha. I also just bought this bottle. My local store in central PA has had one on the shelf since 2017. Big fan 👌
been watching Ralfy for years and like he always greets us by saying Hello Malty , good on him great reviews , both of ya
Ralfy GOAT. Mad respect for your tribute. Cheers!
10/30/19 and Ralphy is only at 125k. He was the first whisk(e)y reviewer I started watching.
Ralfy and Whiskey vault are my go to reviewers. Both always good fun to watch as well. Keep up the good work lads. From lock-down here in Ireland.
I don’t like U2 or Coldplay but I love macallen!
If Daniel and Rex and Ralfy ever meet up,
that would be so EPIC!!!
I think this is now my favourite episode because of Daniels story
That Macallan rare cask was worth the $60 pour to try and well worth the $299 I paid for it. Spectacular and not as raw as the Macallan cask strength.
My subscription put Ralfy at 100,250. Nice support of a peer, gentlemen!
Listening to Daniel nerd out has replaced my white noise machine in the bed room. :)
I love your comments about Ralfy!
In Austin Seven Grand has a good selection of whiskey from around the world. Easy Tiger would be my spot to relax and enjoy whiskey
Go to 7 Grand on 7th street, right across from the homeless shelter. Largest whisky selection I’ve encountered in my life.
I love Macallen 25. What would be a better choice for the money?
In the same general flavor profile.
What is the better value for money-macallan rare cask @ $300 or lagavulin distillers edition @ $120

Or Macallan M!” followed by “This Macallan Sherry Oak is TWENTY FIVE years old!!! TWENTY FIVE years old! Age matters SO MUCH!! Give us eleventy billion dollars for it!”
I just fell in love with four roses single barrel
I like macallan it's one of my favorites. What be a good alternative? I know sheildings is good for the price also that I like.
great review as always, love Rex's reaction to that tea party comment
Hey guys I've been watching yall for a couple of weeks now, and all I can think is why the hell I haven't been watching yall? I work at alamo drafthouse in the stone oak location in San Antonio, and I'm a bartender there. But from watching yall I talk to customers about the history of the whiskey we have and they love it. Love you guys! Keep doing great shit. Oh and I just got a bottle of Bruichladdich.
Hell yes! Love this. Alamo ruins you for all other theaters. I'm constantly at the one here in Austin on Slaughter
My two go to whisk(e)y reviewers are malt mates, yeah! Classy act guys giving rally a shoutout
For Austin whisky bars, I like Seven Grand. They've got 400+ bottles.
I wanna know more about this hyped tea-party ;D Love the banter as always!
Thank you for mentioning Ralfy. Now I am a subscriber. Love your channel
Charles Tan Believe they have dark blinds for when it’s not in use.
If only they were bottling at 42%. The Water of Life, Universe, and Everything.
Canadian Whisky Smith oh I love that!!
What do you get if you multiply six by nine?
indeed.
Sounds like a branding idea.
This needs to happen
Hey guys I found The Macallan Rare Cask at one of my favorite shops but they also have a bottle of Glengoyne 21 at like half the price. What’s your thought go for the gusto or grab Glengoyne? Or do you have a better suggestion?
Donald Payne glengoyne for sure. It’s incredible for the price
Cool video. In Germany I can get a Jim Beam Black, Eagle Rare 10yo, Johnny Drum Private Stock, Noah´s Mill and a Blantons Gold for the price of 1! Macallan Rare Cask. :D
What would you recommend if one likes Macallan12 for a lesser price? I am trying to expand my Scotch tastings...
@10:10 When your son says his favourite liquor is Smirnoff and that he prefers it to the Scotch you bought him for his birthday.
Hello Daniel, Rex and, everyone from the whisk(e)y tribe!! The name is I-rum.. (yes it's a U sound) I have come to a fork in the road in this journey of finding delicious whisk(e)ys. Thanks for all the vids, and have a good one!
special reserve 12yr and Thomas Handy
Probably my all time fave!
A dried apricot. Not a regular apricot, but a dark almost over ripened one with a slightly sour first seasoned black berry.
Hope somehow y’all(or anyone with knowledge) sees this but it looks like 18 year and the “estate” and others are in that price range. Would you recommend this over them as a gift? Friend is super into whiskey and want to get him something cool
A number of bourbons tend to go for 45% (90 proof) since it's between 40% minimum and the 50% ABV that was required with Bottled-in-Bond bourbons.
Had Rare Cask on a recent trip as a splurge pour. It was amazing. It is, up to this point, my favorite Scotch. I'm collecting a vault...sporan at this point...of my own. 14 so far. That Tea Party comment was awesome! 😂😂
Just wondering about the herbal pills. Where did they come from again? I tried googling them but with no luck.
Im new to Austin and where is the best place to drink whiskey? Also, you know of good distilleries in Austin?
Hey guys, love your videos, im looking for a review on two MacAllan whiskys, the Amber and the Sienna. I can't seem to find them in any of your videos, please help me to know if they are any good, i really want to know your thoughts on them! Hahaha thank you guys!

Fun!
Cheers...
Couldn't stop laughing that Andrew trolled you so well with his tea joke. Nailed it.
I don't hate U2, but I do hate Bono.
Rare cask is good. Great SUB for the 18
The "scotch test dummies" mentioned you guys as someone to go watch in one of their last few video's.
Love the Scotch Test Dummies
They probably also warned people about Rex...
Awesome! We love all these guys. Grateful to be in the video community with them.
@WhiskeyVault You guys are awesome and hope to meet you both one day. You're both doing great things to help share and spread the knowledge of liquid gold. Don't tell Rex but Daniel you are my favourite! Slainte
You did Macallan race cask in episode 24. You didn't have a whole bottle though. You only had master of malt samples.
Hey guys, really enjoying the video's!
Have you guys ever tried Finlaggan original?
It's an Islay single malt, being sold for 20 euro's here in the Netherlands, quite curious if I should buy it, being a music student(double poor, haha!)
Cheers, and greetings from The Netherlands

Love the videos and reviews, I watch everyone you guys put out. You guys are among my favorites. So I asked a few of my fellow whiskey buddies on Twitter their opinions so now I wanna know yours. I saw at Costco here in Albuquerque they had the Macallan Rare Cask priced at $225 and they also had the Glenlivet XXV priced at $230 and I was thinking about maybe getting one of them. Since I'm not to familiar with either which one would you guys recommend? Also if you have suggestions for other bottles in that price range for me to look at please let me know
Makes series or video on Honey Whiskey/Whisky, would be really nice.
i got a very similar glass in a jura gift set
Whatever happened to Jason Pyle and Sour Mash Manifesto?
What do you guys think about the Fine Oak finishes from Macallan? Specifically the 15 year old.
Dig it. More earthy
Just went over to see Ralphy and he's at 101K. nice!
By the way, congrats on hitting 71,000 subscribers...
Jack Wright Try the following from each region and it will give you a good feel for the different flavors: islay: Laphroaig Quarter Cask / Bowmore 12
Highlands/speyside: Aberlour 12 / Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
Lowlands: Auchentoshan 12
The other regions aren’t very different.
Japan: Hibiki harmony
America: Eagle rare 10 / michters small batch / belle meade
Ireland: green spot / redbreast 12
Canada: whistle pig. But mostly just try whatever piques your interest!
Shout out to Ralfy, the reason I first bought Talisker and Eagle Rare bourbon, on to my third bottle of each
Just picked up Jameson IPA. I’m curious to see your review.
Have you guys tried “Dads hat” rye whiskey? if not I want to donate one for you to try because it’s made in my home state, Pennsylvania. Would I just donate enough money for you to buy a bottle or should I buy one and have it sent to your mailing address?
One day hope to try the rare cask.
Andrew was from Boston it was a tea party
So if hating U2 or Coldplay results from hating the top dog, how do you explain Nickelback?
Love U2 hate Bono. But that’s for personal reasons. Lol.
I have a chance to buy this for $250. Is it worth it?
So how much is it.
Great review, gents!
Awesome channel lads!
