This was probably the most realistic gundam we ever got. They were pretty much super tanks and moved how something that size would in reality. It's war time the colors and tones would be dark. Most of the battles in the oyw didn't take place on the most breath taking places except for less than a hand full. Limb damage sure made this more challenging and learn how to dodge attacks. The final level where your up against gelgoos, zakus and a few doms ain't so easy and ive lost head, arms even with the rx79g all i had left was the chest vulcan and kneeing enemies. It's the most challenging gundam ive played
Ironically, i always found that the 79 was a lesser unit than some of the late GMs in this game, such as the GM Striker, or even the GM Sniper... But once the Grand Daddy was unlocked, it became really easy to understand why it was so feared from Zeon's side... It was so much faster, muche more agile, while being so more resistant... And with so much ammo in the Beam rifle that resupplying was not nearly needed as often than with any other unit. Even the Gelgoog on Zeon's side didn't offer that feeling, even though it was a really good unit too

It does, and I'll agree on that. Subjectively, I didn't mind it. But it's a mess of incomplete ideas. I didn't think Senki was a spiritual sequel since some of the titles on SNES are Senki titles? I'll still have to dig it up though, sounds fun!
@@KeiNova absolutely agree on the incomplete/unfinished part. I can't even really point out what I like so much about it. I'm glad I picked it up on ps3, even tho it's sadly only in Japanese.
This game definitely has that rough, unpolished, rushed out the door feel to it. Cause thats what it is. Definitely runs better on rpcs3 and all that nowadays. Despite the flaws that have been discussed to death, the game did a few things other gundam games havent since. Destructible environments. Ms damage, customization for environments. The calendar system was not the worst, if it had been done a little better, it would have been a nice function for the game. Would love to see another go at this style of game. Something like this would be seen as high risk, low return and never considered thanks to the lack of success with this game. It really did cause bandai to drop all usa support after it released and got review bombed. My favorite gundam game is and always will be rise from the ashes.
It does look and run better. However as you stated is lacking destructible environments and ms models. I find the lock on system to be the absolute worst ever in a gundam game too. Especially when you have more than a handful of targets to deal with.
Whooa, launch title flop? I got this game with my ps3 fat and It was the bomb! I thought it played really well although I might not have really noticed the performance too much growing up. I really wish it had a PC port or just set up a ps3 emulator for this game now that my ps3 fat is dead. Its funny, my introduction into Gundam as a whole was mostly this and then spare models I got and then watching the original anime a decade later. I always compared this game to Mechwarrior 2 and 4 since I played that first.
It's great you enjoyed it. I really wanted to. And, yeah, it was a flop on all accounts. It was lambasted in the media, and undersold. In Japan, they let it fly a little bit but here it was ripped to shreds due to having little bias towards the franchise.
It’s a cool game as a Gundam fan, but it was not the west’s cup of tea and it was ridiculed everywhere. I remember seeing bins of this game in the discount pile a few months after
The ability to play and redeem the Guncannon MP is intriguing. It's really hard to believe they went from good games like Encounters in Space and Fed vs. Zeon to something this janky on the next-gen console.
That really was great. I really think it was rushed, and that seems to be common opinion. But I really don't know what was going on behind the scenes. That, or they were leaning back on the series popularity in Japan - because overseas, it was very popular there and didn't flop. Weird.
Tried playing fed vs zeon yesterday and can't do it, game feels so bad to play. Journey to jaburo wasn't much better but I'll try encounters in space. Zeonic front and g saviour have been the only ones I've enjoyed playing so far
Love CrossFire and the concept for this game, but yea I understand the game was rush for the ps3, it feel so unfinished, bare bones of MS and upgrades, mission where ok but could have been better, added more map missions, have a cockpits view for this game when the starter manual showed a cockpit view pic, missing the Gundam NT Alex when the Kampfer in the game, have a better MS line up, In the end I love and cherish CrossFire for what it is a clunky ps3 Gundam game.
It was a great concept, I agree. It's like the best direction the series went with realism, but it never got any further consideration (at least in the west).
I love the idea of a grunt-focused UC game where a Gundam is correctly portrayed as only slightly better than a GM. Just wish this game had spent a little more time in the oven.
Dom cannon machine gun and rocket launcher was an OP blend of smooth mobility and fire power. The artificial walking and turning clunkyness of every other mobile suit just could never match.
I do wish this game got more time in the oven cause there is alot of inexcusable nonsense you need to put up with, but I personally love the unique feeling of the game just being a OYW pilot sim. It's cold and brutal where the odds are always kind of stacked against you (for better or worse). Both your and the enemies' mechs falling apart and you're reduced to kicking each other. I heard there are similar games like Lost War Chronicles and U.C. 0081, though I wonder how they compare. There is also Gundam Battle Operation and I do play alot of the sequel, though its game balancing has gotten really rough in recent times imo.
I might check those out soon, just because I'd love to figure that out myself. Not sure my Japanese is up to snuff, so it would be a heck of a challenge.
I remember this being an early PS3 game, thinking about picking it up, seeing videos of it and reviews and passing. The campaign mechanics sound interesting. Shame it turned out so bad.

Theres always GBO2! Which is... not in a good place. Back when it launched, and glossing over the gacha nature, GBO2 was a really fun Gundam game. It was slow, but not too slow; Thrusters were useful but not the end all; Most weapons were viable (very few were strictly "bad"); There was space and ground combat; None of the machines felt useless, or a troll to bring along Since the initial release, they have introduced so many mechanics and power crept everything thats not from some obscure MSV book or from Unicorn/Moon/CCA. I mean, the Unicorns are all at the same "Cost" as the Nu and Sazabi, which is ludicrous. Thankfully there is Code Fairy, a Single Player episodic game that takes the mechanics of GBO2 from its better years, and adds some fun arenas and setpieces.
Code Fairy is surprisingly solid. I was expecting it to be just "put cute anime girls in it to sell more GBO2 coins!", but there's actual effort behind the story and characters.
When I first got my PS3 in the summer of 2007, spending all my vacation pay on it, I went out and rented a bunch of games to try out what the console could offer. This was one of those games and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Played it for maybe a couple hours at most. Those games played better, and had great content. Games like "Zeonic front", "Journey to Jaburo", "Gundam vs Zeta gundam", and "MS Saga". Yes, clearly it was rushed out. I remember watching the trailer over and over, being super excited for a new Gundam game on the PS3. And it looked so much better in the trailer, I only wonder what it would have been like fully completed. Possibly could have been one of the best Gundam games in my opinion. I think graphically it looked good for the time, but could have been polished. Destruction was cool in environments, and on suits. Music was fine, Story: only maybe good breadcrums for fans, I'd say. But It ran poorly, enemy AI wasn't great, like the team mates not being very responsive. Or enemies staying out of bounds or just not spawning, I had to restart missions when that occurred. Customization? You were right about how bare bones it was. MS Saga and Armored Core did it better. Anyways accurate review, thanks for the video.
