The problem with Cardiacs is, that all other music just doesn't quite cut it after listening to them :) Very special band indeed.

I adore Timmy & Cardiacs... but there are other bands, musicians as impressive. Ellington, Miles Davis, Beethoven, Mozart, Beefheart... its like searching for a needle in a haystack but that's the fun of it. Like you felt when you discovered the Cardiacs... same way you'll feel when you "get" Ellington in the late 1940s.

The secret of Cardiacs is that it is in a strange way insanely accessible music. And life affirming.
They thread a fine line between childish and scary. Saw them a couple of times live. They have ways to make you get teary.
They giggle at the concept of genre. I miss them.

Threading the line between childish and scary - perhaps even genius - is a great way to describe Cardiacs.
The first time they clicked for me, it felt like I’d heard them a thousand times before, like it was so natural. Now after listening to them more than a few times, I’m able to see their weirdness and their innate musical ability. A special group.

Watching your musical brain get fried, while also, strangely, loving the experience, is a part of the process and journey to loving Cardiacs; nothing will ever be the same, ever, never, not.

Probably not the best Cardiacs tune for a Cardiacs virgin. You have to work your way up to this level of laudation. Try some of their easier stuff. "Is this the Life" for example.

Cardiacs released this song in 1996 however they have been a band since 1978 and most of their stuff in the 80s is soo much quirkier and completely bat shit crazy haha - just listen to their song 'Tarred And Feathered' to see what i mean :))

Im kind of enjoying that you can't place where this fits in the scheme of things (Its actually early 90s, after the end of their "classic" 80s lineup. Although they existing in the 70s they where more quasi punk with prog ambitions and didnt really flower to their full potential till the early-mid 80s as a sort of batshit cousin to the likes of XTC, Split enz, a bunch of brit psychedelia and british absurdism in general. But honestly, Cardiacs fit nowhere , its better to have no bearings when encountering these madmen and just interpret it how you want.
