I rented a 2018 Kia Soul Base in May and I was VERY impressed with everything the car had and its performance in my 2400 miles of long distance driving. Probably the BEST small car I have ever driven and I might consider buying one. Great review, Dave, and thanks for sharing!
I’ve been driving for 50 years and I’ve had many cars . American , German , Japanese , but my 2020 kia soul is the most fun car to drive I’ve ever had . I love it ! Small exterior and huge interior . It’s the perfect car for me , really quiet and smooth and loaded with great features like the windshield defrost witch is truly useful in Canada .
While I've not driven the Kia Soul, I do find that the upright driver's seat is surprisingly comfortable. The option of the turbo with the 200hp would be the engine of choice for me, if only because the small size of this car would give the driver plenty of speed and maneuverability. At least, that's my hunch. Good review.
Great comments, David, and thanks for sharing. Yah, the Kia Soul Base that I recently rented was a bit underpowered but it still did well in the mountains. Its automatic transmission was a bit annoying, though, as it tried to find the right gears which is a common complaint with the car but it was only a small negative for me along with the lack of trunk space. Car maneuvered very well and yes, the driver's seat is incredibly comfortable like you said. Definitely a car to consider buying and Kias are now much more reliable than in years past.
I purchased a KIA Soul EX with the "Designer Package" three weeks ago. Love it except that the 18" wheels make the ride a little bumpy and the gas mileage does not seem to be anywhere near the reported 27 mpg in the city. I'm getting around 19 mpg on Atlanta streets. I love everything else about the car. I never thought I would buy a car like the Soul with that boxy design but once I sat in one and saw the high driving position and all the room, I realized that boxy design is actually pretty genius. I recommend it but get the 17" wheels if you can. KIA would not allow me do the 17" wheels because I purchased the "Designer Package" but I did get the 10.25 Touchscreen and the LED front and rear lights which is much better than the standard models.
I’m a courier. Drive 7 days a week and put 60,000 miles a year on my car. Had a 2012 for 7+ years and put 250,000 miles on it. Had very few issues with it except fans. Radiator and AC fans both. Had to replace them both TWICE. Anyway I sold that and of course bought a newer one, a 2020. Only problem is the headlights SUCK!!! I’m about to upgrade them to LED.
I have a 6 spd manual and that mileage estimate is a little off. I have a mix of city/highway driving to work and back and I can get about 37mpg with sensible driving. My normal drive style gets about 34-35mpg combined
I had a 2012 kia soul, it ran better and had a bigger storage area in back than the 2020. The light show package isn't worth the few thousand extra, it is tiny pulses on doors and passenger side up under glove compartment area, and only visible at night, save your money on that!
What about the acceleration problem that almost caused my mothers life and crashed her vehicle when brakes failed and No Response from Kia about the problem!
I don't know if these peple get paid to convince people to buy junk or not. If you are looking at a KIA you need to look online at the engine problems they have had for the past 10 years.
Hey Dan - did you ever consider that not everything stays the same? Maybe you should “look online” at their recent reviews. My 2020 Soul has been a fantastic daily driver for the past 2 years.
If you LOOK online you can find engine problems with every manufacturer out there because they have all had them at some point. How manufacturers handle the issues would be what sets them apart. Did you look long enough to learn how Kia handled the issues? I’m sure you didn’t. 👌
It's the"idle stop go" feature. Not a good idea in my opinion !! You can disable the feature, there is a button to push on the dash left of the steering column. You have to do this every time you start driving though. Check in the driver's manual if you are not sure.
Ivan Vojt @ Had my GT turbo for six months now. Hate the transmission with a passion. 2,500 miles and the car has problems starting first thing in the morning. Glad I have a good warranty.

I have a 2020 base model and it still rides bumpy even with 16 inch hubcaps
And that's weird because I get anywhere between 36-41 mpg in my soul
I look forward to being able to afford this in another 10 years
Just bought a 2020 s used and it is awesome to drive 😀
Hi! How many full size suite cases can fit in the trunk?
You can always go to your local Kia dealership and ask a rep to see one to answer your question

You da Everyman !👏🏽👍🏽
I recently *well a month or 2 ago* a 2020 Kia Soul "S" edition. Love it!
I just got a 2020 EX model about a week ago and I’m in LOVE
Y'all someone said the transmission is trash or they said something about ev or something. Is that true?
I like the kia soul . They look sharp

Like this format, Dave. Thanks for the review.
Daniel Gross I’m working on producing more like this.
The 2020 S in Mars Orange ..nice
I love the Kia soul!!!!
Are their rear AC ducts?
No
There are air ducts at the floor for the rear passengers (I have 2020 GT-Line, 2.0L non turbo)
@@charlenewashington9318 yea there is.

It's a great car. Only problem is the LX headlights are the worst !!!
The optional upgrade headlights are awesome.
Ask your dealer to check the headlights aim.
One time headlight adjustment is covered under warranty.
How are the blind spots on this vehicle? My wife drives a Mazda CX5. Good car, but to many blind spots for me.
The blindspots are not bad, I test drove one yesterday and noticed it right away when making a lane change.
What about the acceleration problem that almost caused my mothers life and crashed her vehicle when brakes failed and No Response from Kia about the problem!
Oh wow what happened
Where does that stem from....the transmission
That was obviously a communication problem between the seat and the steering wheel.
Thank you for sharing..👍

A year later, it has been found that the CVT transmissions are junk. Many failing before 10k miles.
Is that the dual clutch transmission
Why does my car shut off when stopped

Lease the Turbo / DCT.

@@hosea1320 is that the dual clutch and isn't that in all of the 2020s? It's not in the older models right?
@@hosea1320 even the worst warranty would cover that issue at that mileage.
Its a sub compact suv il have one ex premium
ACVT transmission is the worst thing you could put in a car.
Hvv
Yeah who would want their engine to stay at the ideal power band for maximum efficiency 🤷♂️
They made the glove box smaller though 😒
Way smaller
