- This is quite an odd one! She can run on both electric AND diesel. As far as the model goes, she's one of the smoothest and most reliable models I have! The detail is only average but more than good enough. I think I'll use her for a permanent way train!

Older video, still just as good as the rest, amazing and great to watch
Another great vid, loving you calling her Liz!
I have tried 3 different camera angels but when I got into your vids I Discovered the best way to film a loco from you
Thank you very much for your answer!
lol those diesel plants are pretty gutsy things, we see 73s in our yard all the time and they are always on diesel power, no matter what they are pulling!
Fantastic! Its a shame they havent got extreme details like the Class 60, plus no lights, but its good to have you back!
i am so jealous of you lol! I wish i had to money to get so many locos and i watch your videos everyday. (not being a stalker lol)! Your videos are amazing and keep up the good work :)!
@penninefilms - I was shocked by how well she runs. Seriously smooth, lovely sound to her motor. And one of the most reliable models I have - has never cut out on me or grumbled at dirty track. Love her :)
@Class59Cameron - me too!!! Are you getting some modle posters for it too? Like LMS travel ones? :) I have
could you make a video of this loco running together with your railfreight class 20 because it would probably look really good.
you have also convinced me to get one of these :)
@Beatboxer1346 - that's a heritage railway. She was not designed to pull a long and heavy train from one corner of the country to the other - not using such as small and not very powerful diesel engine. When talking about locomotives, I talk about them as they once were, rather than preserved ones in use on heritage lines now - where the work load is obviously a lot lighter.
@RTHounds - 'permanent way' is just a another way of saying 'the main line' basically way. So whenever someone mentions the 'permanent way' they basically mean the main lines connecting towns and cities - not smaller sidings that go no where. A 'permanent way' train basically maintains those mainlines, by transporting ballast and other things. Even track repair and track laying machines! Plus you can get overhead wire maintanence trains too.
@FlyingScotsmanMad11 - well, loads of the surface rail around london is 3rd rail, as overhead cables would just get in the way. There are bits of 3rd rail near Liverpool too I think. It's spreading!
what should i get class 20, 9f or falcon
have you fitted directionsl lights to it
Would you say one in Intercity Exclusive would be a wise choice if I was to get one
have u ever considered getting an a4 pacific like mallard because im gettiing union of south africa and i want to see the details and everythink so can u do a review on an A4
Just some info on this loco, 73108 was scrapped at Rotherham, in September 2004. Also, it was operated by EWS.
@SuperJimjoe thanks for the info!
Nice loco, it would look great pulling some of hornbys clam, rudd or tope wagons.
@ThomastheE2engine - in time yes, but right now there aren't that many locos with DCC sound that I'm interested in.
Think I will have to get one now, looks a beauty, Did you know merseyrail had four for shunting and departmental workings, two also gained merseyrail yellow livery.
she dose not just hum she purs :D keep em the vids comming.
73108 is my baby!!!!! I always run her at me dads when I get a chance, shame the real thing is scrapped :'( Hope you have fun with her, she's a real beauty but she cannot run over those ghastly pre-moulded uncoupling ramps. :/ lovely review too, Keep it up!
@michaelsutton1u - I do have an A4 pacific, called 'Falcon' and she came in the 'Heart of Midlothian' set. Several videos of her are up for all to see.
@Thegamepro935 - lol, places like Trident Trains and Hattons will ship to the US tho.
Gray review will I want to get one know
another great vid, sorry i havnt been able to reply to your videos latly iv been away
and came back today on an EMT 158 from boston linoconshire,
A nice civil Dutch engineering livery
@InterCity82 not even the black 5?
@joeliethegoalie1 - hmmm, possibly yeah. There are a couple more specials from Heljan coming up, but I've not yet considered the class 17 - even tho it does look very nice!
@InterCity82 the royal alex is in the pullman livery, looks really nice, u should see if u can find 1 on ebay
very nice loco.
are you going to get any dcc sound locos?
@Mytimekid - oh cool! yeah, the Merseyrail has a 3rd rail doesn't it. So they could even use them now!? :)
@TheIntercityhst - they might still be available, try Hattons and Trident Trains, this loco was about £35
what livery is it
i started one of theese today (73 130) in chanel tunnel livery with the special coupler
a very nice engine, i nearly bourt the royal alex when they first came out. it runs just like the hornby class 20. 5****s
Very well detailed for its age, just needs some buffer beam detail, pickup shoes and cab footsteps .... all easy to do. Lima even did the differences between JA and JB depending on which running number you choose .... E6001 to E6006 (JA) .... E6007 on (JB).
This is just what I am looking for as I am about to upgrade a pair of old lima offerings. It looks like i am going to buy the hornby model with the new 5 pole motor and simply replace the shell with the lima version as this looks like the cheapest way to do things. Oh! there will be two modern shells with no loco to use them with!
You are right the term "shoes" is correct
when is there goning to be a new vid?
where do you put in the diesel
@clusterfak - I think the two use the same tooling.
@snowyhillrailway - the video on the class 57 has now been uploaded
@gbrailwayclub - it's in the queue ;) I'm getting thru the backlog - slowly but surely!
73108 is nice locomotive i know because I used to drive it for British Rail!
@Javelin395 - hehe, thanks Jack! We need to meet soon!
@hihat101 - yes I did know that :) but in this case, the diesel engine wasn't even half the power of the electric one.
@brushtraction - I haven't carried out any tests but I'm sure it can handle any realistic number of wagons (say 20 to 30 easily)
@08600ng02shunter - thanks for the comments and feedback!
@InterCity82 Do you live in England?
that should look good with a permanent way train i think the class 73used to pull the gatwick express
@Hartsock91 - lol, thanks for the comments! I'll make sure they keep coming!
aghh one more thing im going to correct you on is that she can pull a train with just her deisel engine as its quite powerful not too powerful but its ok anyway great review! :)
@tpe18509 - really? I've heard about that and even seen some of their coaches, in Nottingham!
@itgamer100 - oh nice! You will LOVE it :)
DCC ready means the loco has a locomotive decoder or she is only able to be used on a DCC track?
@xSTeViiE23 - it's not been fully tested but so far it can wasily haul an 8 coach train.
@Beatboxer1346 When on the 3rd rail, class 73s run with around 1400bhp available, but on their diesel engine this drops to around 600bhp. Given than a similar sized class 20 has 1000bhp, and that bigger engines such as the class 47 have 2500-3000bhp, you can understand why pulling trains under diesel power is not normal for the main line network.
Thomas & Friends make a big appearance in Series 4.
@jaannetts16 - yeah? Royal Alex? Never even heard of that one. You know so much more about trains than me lol
@gtasandman - a video on Percy is coming up!
@joeliethegoalie1 - Hmmm, it depends on how big the loops were. You can easily split the power to go to all loops, but the bigger the loops, the weaker the power will eventually get. You may need another controller or a power booster at least. I should be uploading a load more videos later this week (once work isn't so busy). My class 06? The one that came in the Good Master set? No
@Badgersize - lol. I shall do some videos on this locomotive and the class 20 as soon as I can :)
great stuff!, did you know diesel loco's are NOT diesel!, its the diesel generations that produce electricity to drive the traction motors, i always thought its funny that alot of people think of them as diesel, anywayz another great vid!
Yes he does live in the UK
What is a permanent way train?
@TheIntercityhst - ahh yes, they're 3rd rail too aren't they
Im getting one of these in the new year but in gbrf livery and its only £40 merry christmas will
I SO WANT 1
Where did you put the locos number? Diesel or Electric!? (In your little book)
how many wagons can it pull ? by the way this is randokid2100's new channel brushtraction
One that works on the permanent way (baiscally an engineering train)
At this very moment I am building a mainline station by metacalfe
@somerandomalex - I don't. I'm amazed I got this loco tbh as it's a southern loco more than anything, and I don't tend to model southern locos very much.
@MrJezza31 - Well yes, but it didn't do it very much. The electric motor is a 1,600HP beast, but the diesel engine is only a tiny 600HP. More than enough to move itself, and to pull a small load - but nothing major.
@Whizzer1 - argh! so many! lol
I have one in intercity swallow livery
And one in southwest trains livery
I've got one of those
How old is your Loco class 73?
@edwardsweeney24 - never been on one of them... yet :)
@InterCity82 soz, in derby! Saw them on weds wen i went to the nrm if u want to be boring about it i got 222016 + 222012 at leicester for sheffield. Then a randon 221 at sheffield for Edinburgh.
@hornbymanzpc this weekend! :)
@IgotPMT - haha, yeah, well, that's her name :)
@modellerman - whatever you like the look of best :)
@hkbfkmb - it was bought new
why dont you get one of your thomas trains doing a job
she looks like she lights up at 7:24 entering the tunnel (just red)
@InterCity82 Will, are you available anytime tomorrow, any time, I mean from about 8am, until about 7pm? PM me if u are
A friend of mine drives these for Network Rail.
Cool! Nice to know some of them are still going!
InterCity82 . They're mainly owned by GBRF. I saw some the other day doing works on the line. There was one still in original BR blue livery too!
Oh I've been to Tonbridge yard. There is a lot of GRRF class 73's there
oh right
wat if liz hit the 73 :D
im pretty shure it said in a book of mine
