    I am not a mechanic, I am a Volvo enthusiast. I detected a leak from the back of the engine, my RPM gauge had also stopped working, upon inspection I found that the connector was broken and hanging loose. I also saw by the service records that the cap and rotor had not been changed out, the car has 107,000 miles on it. I highly recommend you Google a PDF with step by step directions on how to do this. This is just my story. If you have any questions or comments leave them below.

    You didn't show the most important part actually pulling it off and putting it on

      Sorry about that, it was a struggle and I had to stop recording as I didn't have anything to hold my phone up.

      @@plightn all good.. I'm just frustrated I spent like 2 hours messing with that and couldn't line up the cap bolts to all go in. The non Bosch ones are trash and a pain in the ass the rubber seal falls off and the black spinny part doesn't stay in place. The screws are cheaper and my car still wouldn't start.
      I have a 1986 gle wagon 740 and it's been nothing but problems I've replaced so many parts with OEM not it not even starting. These years are notorious for wire harness issues.
      My front two larger fuses I can't get in because they just sink into the fuse board and when I put my fingers underneath to press I can't out enough pressure to seat them into place.. I even tried making a clamp for it after I ripped out the radio for more room

      @@robertwhitehead9270 Believe me I get the frustration, unfortunately these vehicles were built with environmental friendly plastic on and it is starting to fall apart all over. Especially the wires.

    does it matter how the rotor axle is oriented ? it spins freely and might turn when you pull it out..

    I do not see you removing the distributor in the video which is what I'm looking for

    • @plightn
      @plightn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apologies, it was my first video ever and I didn't do a good job. It's also really close to the firewall so it was practically impossible to get a camera in there. It's really tight and you have to remove it by feel. I will say I put a remanufactured unit in there and it failed after 2k miles.

    Did this fix the tach?

    • @plightn
      @plightn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it didn't I thought it was the wire, however I recently tested the wire harness, the only thing I think it could be now is the tach itself.

      and im guessing while i have the distributor out i should go ahead and change out the o rings, also what would you recommend to clean the rotor

    • @plightn
      @plightn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use a very light abrasive such as very fine sand paper or 3M Scotch-Brite Scour Pad.

      cool, and one more thing i dont have that sensor between the rotor and your distributor

    Did you time the engine with a gun.

    • @plightn
      @plightn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Arnold I did not as this was my first attempt at mechanic work. The remanufactured distributor failed 2k miles later and I had to reinstall the old one back. I checked the timing then and it was good.

    Hi! what kind of problem caused to you that distributor?

    • @plightn
      @plightn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kamel hatem It was me trying to be proactive because distributors should be changed every 50k miles. But the remanufactured one broke after 3k miles so if your car runs don’t touch it.

    • @moulmour

      @@plightn firstible Thanks a lot for respending. my car doesn't run properly, at point i can't drive it and some times i have to touch the hall sensor which is on the distributor to start the engine. the mecanics said is the distributor with the hall sensor causing this misfonctionning. and here in algeria as we lack a lot spear parts of this kind of cars. i didn't fine one yet to try it.

    • @plightn
      @plightn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kamel hatem yeah it does sound like it’s the distributor, I would try having the part shipped from the us, china, or Germany.
