I love Unitop. I bought a lot of kitchen stuff for my mountain vacation home in Cebu there. So cheap although they're not very durable. They have those rechargable lamps for brownouts. Very useful. LOL at the "Lots of haircare products, I don't need that."
Well, we had to pick up a few things at a local department store and decided to test out the GoPro chest mount. I do way too much spinning around, so don't watch if you have vertigo. :)
Philippine Dreams This confirms my suspicions, despite your unwanted snide remarks and countless Hello Kitty negative references. I can see through your transparent and feeble attempt to make Michell the center of unwarranted attention. Please have your people call my people to confirm schedule...
Michelle thinks your funny laughing at you at the end of this vid. HaHa. Thanks again for sharing and making those of us that spend a lot of time there feel like we are not that far away . Aloha
Yeah u had to go back Ned you forgot mechell planters there, thanks for taking us shopping,I know this video is a little old but I just came across some I haven't seen yet :)
Watching this somewhat nondescript video, I learnt a few things, Michell (y) our Pagadian princess of Mindanao is not only a good cook, she is also multi-lingual who acts as an interpreter for you. She does monetized transactions for domestic financial obligations. She works a night job and you also have her decipher your scrawl, scratch, and scribble. I am to assume she has a Master in ancient Sumerian cuneiform script interpretation, with a minor in Egyptian hieroglyphics. One question I need to ask? Ned, what is it you actually do ? Maraming salamat sa inyong dalawa... True to form, Philippine dreams, you guys made my day less boring.
I really shouted "Dont forget your planters!", but helas, you could not hear me...Probably too loud karaoke in the background... Thank you very much for your nice videos, its so useful!
When you go to the grocery store, can you slow down so that we can see some of the prices? Thank you :) sorry about that by the way, but I'm just curious about how the prices for things have changed since the last time I went.
Teresita Tajan I will when we do another video. You can also check out www.numbeo.com and plug in where you want to see the cost of things. It's a great little resource for things like this.
Yeah, our stores here in the States are filled with Chinese goods as well but I believe that the Chinese stuff in the PI is more of a substandard nature. Be careful about drinking cups and plates and bowls. Once we brought back a cup and a couple of dinner plates and I became suspicious of these items after reading a report on Chinese goods. I brought home a handheld metal alloy analyzer from work and scanned the dishes. The scanner indicated 6.3% pb (lead) content. Yikes!
Yeah, they like to put lead in pretty much everything. It's all part of their plan to take over the world! Some of the stuff is OK but some of it is really, really bad. You really have to look it over (and test it!) before laying down the pesos.
was that guns n roses sweet child o mine in the beginning???, I had no idea they would have ever played that in public in the PI, cool! I thought everyone was on the super-sad ballads of the 80's and then pop music, like your vids keep it up
Is it easy to buy snorkeling stuff, or sport articles in Dumaguete? As i can tell, it seems to be possible to buy everything that one can think of there. What about good tools, or special stuff like fiberglass/resin? I was thinking about building some stand up paddle boards, kite boards and stuff like that. Do you think that these things are available? The reason i ask, is because i have spent many years in India, but even buying a piece of string can be an adventure there ^^. A second question would be if there are lots of moskitoes in the area of Dauin/Dumaguete? Because i recall that you said that it was quite okay, due to the ocean in your Dauin Video. ( i loved the house btw). Big thanks for all the information, my wife and i appreciate your videos very much (as well as Henry`s). Thx, and stay well!
Snorking/SCUBA stuff is easy to come by. The sell decent Chinese snorkeling stuff at Lee Plaza for about $30. Dunno about fiberglass resin. I did a vid on the local version of Home Depot but haven't put it up yet. I would say yes - and if you can't get it locally, you can get virtually anything in Cebu, which is a short ferry trip away. Just stock up on antibiotics. :P The bugs actually turned out to be a problem in Dauin since we didn't have screens. I don't know if it was the specific area that house was in or not. And yes, it was a cool house - just too buggy and too far from Dumaguete. Thanks, man.
Philippine Dreams Thx for your reply. A few months, and we will be on our way if all goes well. Cant wait to discover it for myself. At least, everything concerning finances is set and done, only minor things to fix before leaving. Stay well!
hi im coming there on Thursday but going to Bicol do you know if they have a rascal moter bike trike dealer as I have tried to see on line and no luck maybe you can see would be great
I am not sure if Racal has a site in Bicol, and I couldn't find anything online about a store/shop there. You probably just have to get there and see. The big three Chinabikes here are RUSI, Racal and Motorstar.
That Unitop store looks like a cool place for buying a lot of random shit... They don't have one here in our part of Luzon... Yea, extension cords here are a necessity. Don't you hate the shortage of outlets in the houses here. New or old, just one set of plugs in each room of the house...
Lots and lots of endless stuff. Its like shopping at Wal-Mart. You go only to buy cooking oil and you come out with a tv, car parts and clothing. Lol .
the store's aisles are very tight like a one way street you cannot even use one cart. makes me think how big k-mart and walmart are. i like going to a department store, unitop looks spotless.
That was one of the things that surprised me and I liked about ACE Hardware in Davao. The store is big, aisles wide and everything out easy to see. So many ACE stores in the US are small.
Michell, If you cant answer my question its ok. What do you think of Americans now that you have met a few? I am just curious as to what Pinoys think of us :) Thanks....
Would it be better to ask the sales clerk of what your looking for? No superwalmart in the Philippines? That store reminds me of one of the many markets in TJ.
Yeah, I shouldn't be cussing in the vids. Pretty unprofessional. And yep, crossing the street always reminds me of Frogger. The first time I came down to the city, I had to sneak in with a group of older Filipinas crossing the street, as I was too scared to do it on my own.
Good place to pick up a few things that ya need around the house (on the cheap) ahhah and no doubt watch the traffic its a killer. On avg. up in Manila 10 people get run over every day of the week.Good grief!
Nice to have a partner who sticks to the list unlike most ladies. Cool video, was like playing a first person hidden things game, in a good way.

Moving to the Philippines soon!! Really enjoying your videos. Thanks!

yup made me sick lol. like the video of the store tho.
I must visit that place when I get there! Looking forward to the video when you show us your Hello Kitty memorabilia collection 😂
My Hello Kitty collection is by private viewing only. :P

matt hajas We got more planters the next day. :)
Such a small world. Same here as me and my asawa and our list on the weekend at Walmart 9,000 miles from you.
Dang, I miss WalMart...... :(

She can do virtually anything - she's a frikken genius. Now, I just write content online for some friends of mine back in the States.
Philippine Dreams It was a rhetorical question, Ned. My attempt of joviality !
Ned have you and Michelle been too green hills in Manila? you would love that place😊👍
+tims 2jz Not yet. It's on the list at some point.
I really shouted "Dont forget your planters!", but helas, you could not hear me...Probably too loud karaoke in the background...
Thank you very much for your nice videos, its so useful!
Salamat, Sir Complex. I am actually going to pick up some today before we head on down to Dauin for our weekly pot luck on the beach.
Philippine Dreams Weekly pot luck?
Sounds promising...good luck, see ya in a few months then!

that looks like your one stop shop,if you can't find it there they don't make it.. hehe looked like fun.

Yes it is. I hope I don't get wacked for a copyright issue........ I might have to take the video down.
lol Hope not!! just found it really out there! like i say i usually hear the Karaoke thats like more sad than country music, and pop
Does every store have that kind of security?
Bend what was the name of this store and are they wide spread in the Philippines?? Thank you
Unitop almost got everything. the last part is funny "i love Chinese stuff" lol

Appetite for Destruction is a timeless album
Lots and lots of endless stuff. Its like shopping at Wal-Mart. You go only to buy cooking oil and you come out with a tv, car parts and clothing. Lol .
I would steer clear of most of the electronics in there, but the household goods and clothes are good and cheap!
It like going to a 99 cents store or Wal-Mart one stop shop dude!!!
Yeah, it's pretty crazy. It's always packed and has no aircon, so I try to sneak in when it is cloudy and cooler.
the store's aisles are very tight like a one way street you cannot even use one cart.
makes me think how big k-mart and walmart are. i like going to a department store, unitop looks spotless.
nonoyd Unitop is crazy! Very tight aisles and people everywhere. Not a good place to shop if you have claustrophobia!
That was one of the things that surprised me and I liked about ACE Hardware in Davao. The store is big, aisles wide and everything out easy to see. So many ACE stores in the US are small.
GAisano , ororama, and Novo are my favorite cheap goods lol
I think this video triggered my anxiety. The canyons of plastic junk were too much! ;)
There is ace hardware in SM i think.
imes cagadas I think so, too.
Did you get a visa or how are you doing that we are planning on moving there in a few years
It is very easy to get a visa here. They give you a one month visa when you step off the plane, and you do visa extensions after that.
Philippine Dreams My wife is A Pinay so that gives me a year so where do you go for an extention ?
Michell, If you cant answer my question its ok. What do you think of Americans now that you have met a few? I am just curious as to what Pinoys think of us :)
Thanks....
Would it be better to ask the sales clerk of what your looking for? No superwalmart in the Philippines? That store reminds me of one of the many markets in TJ.
No WalMart here, alas..... I did ask the clerk where the extension cords were: "Asa dapit ang extenstion cords?"
Its like $ store here in u.s. its not a big deal ha,
Yep- that's what it reminds me of as well.
so you finally bought a flowerpot or not
Nope. It's on the list for the next trip there.
Crossing the street is an adventure in it self . Lol . Cool place bro . Love all that karaoke $hit lol I mean stuff . Lol later
Yeah, I shouldn't be cussing in the vids. Pretty unprofessional. And yep, crossing the street always reminds me of Frogger. The first time I came down to the city, I had to sneak in with a group of older Filipinas crossing the street, as I was too scared to do it on my own.

I was terrified crossing the street when I first got here!
btw : when do u marry ?
Ngano naa mu sa unitop piki manang na dinha kanina ni anha hu walay angay ang rob may okey
The shop is just full of plastic!
bobby shaftoe Not just plastic but Chinese plastic - chock full of extra mutagens and additives!
