Bali would be an even better destination once they finish the massive international hospital in Sanur (heard that foreign specialist doctors are allowed to practice there). Btw, these few months, Indonesian president Jokowi (well, ex president now) inaugurated several modern hospitals with high-tech equipments in several cities across Indonesia, like Surabaya, Makassar. I think Indonesia would provide better healthcare in near future if u want to settle here.
For people who dislike hot humid weather, the hack is to live in towns in Indonesia high above sea level, like Bandung and Malang. Weather is much cooler than in Canggu over there.
Some cities and towns in Java island is a good alternative to Bali due to relatively good infrastructure (train network is good, and many cities now linked by expressway), friendly locals, decent hospitals, lower cost of living, and less touristy vibe. And cities in Java like Jogja, Surabaya and Bandung have direct flights to Kuala Lumpur, just in case u want better healthcare in Malaysia.

Bali will also finally get an MRT network that will definitely help to alleviate its chronic traffic jams. Moving around the island is best done by scooter, which isn't exactly safe or comfortable. Taking a grab or gojek car means you'll be stuck in traffic most of the time.

Bandung is decent too, but due to proximity with Jakarta it's mainly a holiday destination for Malaysians and Jakarta people as it's a colder place in the mountains (Lembang), so to do interviews Yogyakarta and Jakarta are much better choices.
As an expat I agree with the comment above, Java is nicer than Bali, but Bali still has plenty going for it and shouldn't be missed, just not the only place someone should visit on holiday.

The concept of digital nomad works fine when you're still in your productive years. What about when you're retired or unable to work - apart from medical issues which require being in a health-forward country, there's also a need to maybe connect to your own culture, or extended family and old acquaintances. I'd say one should never give up your home passport without careful consideration. It was citizenship given to you free when born, doesn't mean we can treat it lightly. Traveling, constantly picking up and re-settling elsewhere can get tiresome after a while (probably not as long as youre young and healthy). Ive found that the more connections you have to your original home, the more peace of mind there is. Ive lived in several countries during early years of work. Its definitely exciting then. Not so sure what its like when you turn 70, 80 etc. Maybe all you want then is to be near loved ones, familiar settings.

Thanx to our sold out traitor leaders, our beloved country is currently sold to china thru titanic foreign debt thats impossible to pay out fully like ever, even only the interest we are dyin to pay. Great video. I do agree with Max that realising a plan B as a single or as a family are two distinctly different issues. A child does need to have a certain stability. A child needs to have it's own friends and have a chance how life changes, when staying in the same place over a certain amount of time. This is different for an adult. For the most cases an adult has made his experience with this already. Hence an adult is able to move on. Yet it's again different if you have a business. Having business typically limits your radius, as you will clearly be required to stay within the reach, so your clients can get to you.

The only thing is if an adult foreigner truly wants to enjoy the low cost of living there, beyond just being a tourist, they need to be able to find a job and apply for work visa, which according to my friend, can prove to be difficult for them these days.

I couldn't agree more with Denis about SeAsian countries ... geo-politically, SeAsian countries tend to stand in neutral position
and 100% sure - not trying to be over confident here - Indonesia as the largest country in SeAsia will do whatever the country can do to maintain stability and security in the region
as a non-aligned country, Indonesia tends to avoid being part of any block globally - Indonesia refused to join BRICS, refused to join any military organisations, refused to send arm forces to help a country in war, even Indonesia refused to acknowledge Hamas and only want to "fight" for Free Palestine in UN forums together with Fatah - peace talks and dialogs are way Indonesia usually does
Learning from Cold War when SeAsia used to be the region of conflicts between US vs Soviet, todays SeAsians' leaders believe that neutrality, flexibility and balance is a key factor to maintain peace and stability in the region - they call it "the bamboo strategy" ... thus making SeAsian relatively safer compared to other regions, in term of geo-politic
