Ron is so underated its a crime. I am a huge GNR fan and I hate how people still cling onto Slash. Bumblefoot and Robin Finck are better. Go Bumble! come to the UK please!
Holy crap, so many ignorant comments here. Ron Thal is an amazing guitarist in all areas, he is a true virtuoso. Just look at what he has done in the past he has amazing technique, musical knowledge and feel for the instrument.
@RDBeast Amen. This is interesting music sociology... who goes to GnR gigs? Sincere fans, I'm sure, but also people who just want to hang out and be seen at a Big Rock Show. They talk to their shallow friends, take photos of each other and wait for SCOM. The rest of the gig is an irrelevance to them. Also, Ron is the "hired gun". Someone in charge still thinks the unaccompanied solo to a mostly stupid audience is still musically worthwhile, so Ron just has to do it.
You can hear some guy yell, "THIS SUCKS...WE WANT SLASH BITCH!" That is funny. This guys wipes the floor with Slash. Funny when idiots can't tell a great player from an average one.
i got chinese democracy the other day. im not sure who is playing what part out of fink, thal and buckethead but i do know that album is full fo ausome technical parts. and yea im love slash to bits but he isnt as good.
i waa taking from the list given, but yah i shoulda had them in mind. That "try to know about guitar line" is really starting to get the responce of "shut the fuck up"
gilbert , and batio are the only ones on that list i would even compare with bumblefoot. now If you put Shawn lane. As much as i love the foot you can't diss lane
Thal's cool as fuck and he's an awesome musician. His compositional skills are obviously better than his improvisation skills. He played ok here but there was no flow to it.
i dont mean in guitar skill i mean musically in particular slash has been doing the same overused blues runs for too fucking long i was fucking playing guns and roses when i was ten their not even fucking hard but i'll admit i could not write anything like that when i was 10 tho .
They cling to Slash because he wrote better songs. There've been 10,000s of guitarists more technically proficient than Hendrix or Page but they wrote great songs with feel. Satch edges out the incomparable Stev Vai, in my book, because most of his songs have a bit more soul. Randy Rhoades beats all his successors simply because the 1st 2 Ozzy albums were full of great songs. And Slash, hardly a groundbreaker, just did better stuff. Sweet Child will be listened to 50 years from now. Sorry Robin
Bucket can play technically better than this guy, but Bumblefoot is a much better choice to be in a band... I mean, Ozzy turned bucket away for being too weird.
buckethead and bumblefoot both shit on slash, maybe if slash decided to progress at guitar then maybe he would be decent by todays standards their are millions of kids that can play like slash their is no skill in it.
awfull. Just a band sound "We want slash, bitch!" I dont care, ron can be technically a thousend times better than slash. But that doesnt matter if his music is crap!
It's not about being impressed - it's about being moved. Yngwie Malmstein - amazing guitarist! His songs? They all suck! One note from Satriani beats the hell out of some of these shredders' 64th note solos. This guy's pretty good, but can't get into Buckethead's nonsense. I appreciate pushing the envelope - Zappa, Vai, Morse, Morello, Nuno, Balew, Glenn Phillips - but weird for the sake of weirdness is schlock and note shredding for the sake of speed is athleticism, not artistry.
Such an underrated and unheard of player

Hell yeah!! Ron is the man!!
Truest words ever to be spoken of a human mouth.
Wow... he looks happy to be there. /sarcasm off
A-fuckin-Mazing
I would have too lol but it was his first night in GnR. He couldn't afford to crack someone's skull open just yet lol

That sounds exactly like a guy testing out a guitar at Sam Ashe.
well i guess in the end it really comes down to personal preference.
I play guitar and to be honest impelliteri is the only one i have never heard of. and herman li speeds up his stuff.
at 2:01 is sounds like someone says "we want slash bitch"
he looks like richie sambora there!
i waa taking from the list given, but yah i shoulda had them in mind. That "try to know about guitar line" is really starting to get the responce of "shut the fuck up"
I don't understand why he is good. I only hear him making odd sounds with the guitar. What makes him great?
i saw some bullshit that this guy was the greatest hard rock/metal guitarist ever, fucking bullshit, he is really good tho
gilbert , and batio are the only ones on that list i would even compare with bumblefoot. now If you put Shawn lane. As much as i love the foot you can't diss lane

hahah bfoots sloppy and weak compared to what ????????
Thal sucks.
awfull. Just a band sound
