Company: *spends thousands of dollars on high quality demonstration video, including well designed graphics and thoughtful, clear voiceover*
CEO: Yeah, but is it metal enough?!
    Company: Its an educational video...
CEO: Add a sick guitar shred from the 90s. But it has to be free.

For the record, some people saying they didn't explain the way it changes direction, you're partially right, they didn't tell us what it has to do and why it works, but they did briefly show it at around 1:15, the head stopped spinning and just went upwards.

not enough explanations on some parts of the drilling - how does the drill makes turns? All you showed was the straight lines
    ....

According to some research (I was wondering the same thing) I believe it turns by applying the small correction maneuvers it showed over a given distance to get a specific curve - I think it does this by pumping the mud fluid stuff in a specific direction. Regardless, however it makes its correction maneuvers is how it turns. And I believe each section of the drill has elbow type joints that allow it to bend. Again, not an expert, just what I gleaned from reading a few things

How horizontal drilling works . You didn't explain the most sophisticated part. How the drill head navigates using the steel rods..

    • @duuurs
      @duuurs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Brian Patton if you look carefully the drill head has a slanted angle at about a 45 degree angle. by rotating the drill string to the desired degree and then pushing instead of rotating, steering is achieved. for example, rotating the drill string to the 12 o'clock position and pushing will force the head straight up, of pushing at 3 o'clock will turn it right. in this way, it is steered.

in that one you can see it has a wedge on the cutting head so if they want to go left they stop the drill rotation so that the wedge is on the right and push the rod in pushing it to the left.

Like routing a flexible surgical catheter during flouroscopy into any part of the body without open surgery. Pretty soon, this will all be done by robots. People only have to be called in to do open surgical intervention.

I had an experience to use the method over 3.4 kms. This is only useful for crossing river or structure. My project was for waste water pipe line network. The staffs who use the method in Vietnam promised it's really good method for network pipeline in soft ground. They advertised it proudly. However, Manhole installation must be matched with it. They expressed that Manhole installation would be carried out by Top Down method not Open Cut method. Eventually they ended up to carry out open cut. They hadn't any experience the manhole work. They took some money for pipe installation and gave up all the remaining works. I was really disappointed their attitude.

Pulling had to be temporarily stopped due to rig breakdown. Exit side( pipe side) is bank of pond and now it is raining heavily at the site. Water level increased up to hole level. Since rig side level is lower than pipe side level, water is flowing through hole from pond to rig side. Can you suggest any technique to temporarily plug the hole to prevent water seepage from pipe side to rig side.

That was a cool "half a million $$ animated bore". That's what they do when MILLION $$ MACHINERY'S involved,, the real bore is up your bumhole in the exorbitant pricing of what they charge doing everything ultra expensive technology now performs.
Wanna be rich? Simply come up with an idea,, label it the best thing since sliced bread & sell it to contractors who don't mind passing that exorbitant & dubious cost along to people in real need of services!
    I need a paltry 7 40' 2" bores performed under a road 3' deep for electrical utilities & I'm getting pricing of $4k/bore,, a cool $28 grand for a day's work (less piping)!
You can't beat modern technology,, the ruination of real men doing real man's work yet the easier it gets,, THE MORE DAMNED EXPENSIVE IT GETS!!
    Go figure,, right??
