    Age and leaks required this important pipeline to be replaced. The project required as little digging as possible, it is therefore that the state of the art trenchless HDD technology came into play. The pulled in segment shown in this footage is a 220meter (or 722feet) long, 1100mm (or 43,3inch) diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fused pipe using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and pulling. Yet another succesful pull, completed in just two hours.

    The info. On this video states this is a 722 ft long 43.3 diameter high density polyethylene fused pipe. And pulling of the pipe back through the trench took only 2hrs. The drilling , I would think took half a day maybe longer. Impressive, would love to own this equipment. Thanks

    In my city, they usually just open up the road. There's rock outcropping all over the place, it's typical to have a rock hammer laying around on construction sites. Recently, they needed to have a pair of pipes go under an active railway. Bedrock at that location is quite literally right under the asphalt. They dug a pit, set a horizontal drilling rig and pushed a steel pipe with tooth straight through the rock.

      Civil engineer here in the pipeline industry.
      It can be harder in some instances due to the lack of solid Rock, loss of pressure (frak out) is pretty common and losing the hold behind the cutting head is a pretty real problem in clay heavy soils but generally it's pretty easy. Drilling.this is the pull back ohase which can't have complications but is for the most part easy.

    I love it! My crew is doing this tonight, only with 300’ of 8” HDPE. We subcontract the boring/pipe pulling. I’ve never seen it done. And our start/finish “trenches are 15’ deep (at least) and 20’ long, with shoring boxes in them. I’m curious how they can bore so accurately (gravity fed sewer line) and how they’ll pull the pipe through given the depth and shortness of the trenches. Company working from 9pm to 5 am since this job is on a busy highway and a lane must be closed. I have to cover the other work we do during the day, which is why I’m not there. Dammit I’m curious.

      Not really. Thicker wall thickness because of the bead but that also creates the weak point. The pipe will break right next to the weld. Any miss alignment in the weld and varying wall thicknesses between pipes also de rates the weld slightly.

    In South Africa this would have taken 10years ,1000 construction workers and then 20 government officials would have earned BMWs from it. And it would leak probably.

    My only question is I’d like to see how they planned it to keep grade on the gravity sewer this is amazing to watch

    • @BBQHoorn
      @BBQHoorn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It aint gravity. The contents are moved using high pressure pumphouses. Thanks for watching and asking.

      It’s easy your bore shot starts at the deepest level and then gradually goes up like 2% maybe even 4% the whole way until you meet up at the exit pit beat way to do it is make your entry pit 2 feet deeper than your exit pit

      Big bucks my guess is at least a few mill (in USD).... I mean it’s 722 ft of 3.6ft diameter pipeline installed with trenchless technology. (Looks like pressure rated pipe to me too)

      Honestly you’d want to hire a good Consulting Firm to estimate/calculate job pricing for you on a project this size in advance... Somebody like Bryan Hauger Consulting in the USA can provide those kinds of answers and set up these kinds of jobs.
