    I just returned a genmitsu LC-40 which I had assembled for 1 day. I LOVE that laser & build quality & the linear rails being on a diode is awesome, however, I know/pretty sure it will not do the kind of cutting I will need. Ordered Xtool d1 pro, planning to get extension kit later.

      I am in the same exact boat, it sounds like returning the D1 will cost you some extra 🤑 I personally am gonna deal with it cuz it’s at least an upgrade from my Ortur, which is a funny story in itself. I bought my Ortur around Xmas cuz it was the best on the market that worked with Lightburn, then XTool decided to upgrade their software to work with lightburn. I think I am just not having luck with lasers 😂 😕

    limit switches aka homing switches are mostly for repeatability. To say cut from the exact place every time. If your work place center is at 5"X and 6"Y you can get to that exact location every time. I would think of them more of a advanced user feature.

    • @Bogaloo1232
      @Bogaloo1232 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw other video earlier today that tested the limit switches repeatability and it totally failed, it seems they used optical limit switches and not mechanical ones as most other machines. 🤔

    • @pinkflamingo8806
      @pinkflamingo8806 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I don’t think they’re super accurate. It would be cool to see them implement the sensor less homing that we enjoy on 3D printers. Or even do encoded steppers that can keep track of their position even after power off or being moved by hand.

      If you decide to go with the XTool D1 Pro 20W make sure you order way in advance. I ordered mine over a week ago. I'm a complete noob and I wanted this one because of the demos I've seen Nick and a couple of others perform. I was told it would ship July 26. Then I got an email a couple of days later saying it wouldn't ship until August 15. I asked for a refund and I was going to go for a different brand. Then I was told I could swap from the red for a gray machine and it would deliver on July 26. I keep checking the status of my order and it still don't even say my order has been fulfilled. No status at all on my order other than it being paid. I've sent another email asking for a refund but still haven't heard from them. This is not a good sign to me. So in the meantime I ordered the Atomstack A5 M50 Pro so I can at least get some experience. It only took 3 days to get here. Now learning how to use Lightburn. Good luck.

      You're not the only one who is upset because Xtool absolutely screwed over their newest customers in this case. I've had mine for two weeks and it is still in the box, however they made absolutely no effort whatsoever in regards to informing customers via their website that an upgraded version was just right around the corner. Zero.
      So I'm sure you all can begin to imagine the sour taste we all developed when we learned that this upgraded model was released. We spent days researching which company to go with, and on each of those days we continually visited their website to compare to the other offerings from different companies. Nowhere was it even suggested to us that a new model was just around the corner. Many of the complaints about the previous model (D1) were addressed in this new upgraded model, but hey let's not tell anyone about it so that they end up wasting their time and money.
      It's noticably more expensive to buy the individual upgrades to the D1 unit (changing it from 10w to 20w) than if you had bought the D1 Pro instead. Moreover, their marketing trys to get to believe that you're "upgrading" your D1 by purchasing the 20w module, however upon close inspection what is really happening when you purchase the 20w module is that you're just lining their pockets for no good reason.
      "But hey guys don't worry! If you want the new Pro model you can just pay us more money even though the decent thing to do would have been to inform our customers that this new model was on the way so that they could benefit from the upgraded unit. Open up those wallets people!"
      Come Monday morning I'll be contacting them to see if they will make this right by us.
      - I don't want to pay the return shipping fee
      - I don't want to pay the restocking fee
      - I want them to take the D1 unit back and allow me to pay the difference for the newer model
      If they refuse, then you have your answer as to what kind of company this is. There are a great many people I've run across who feel the same way that I do now and rightfully so. What they did in this situation was unacceptable, amateurish, greedy and stupid. Should they choose to make this right by myself and others, then I'll be singing their praises for doing the right thing. Should they not, I'll be returning my D1 and never looking back.
      Would be nice if the people who promote their products would help us circumvent this predicament that Xtool placed us in by helping us to apply pressure on them to make this right by their newest customers.

      @@spiritualmamzer1413, I am in the same boat. Still waiting on the extension etc I bought. But I am not even going to try and do the return. I agree with everything you said. This just left a bad impression on me all the way around. Luckily I only wanted it for tumblers since I have full-size C02 and Fiber so I really don't have to worry about the rest. But for them to work it that way just tells me to stay away from any further launches and machines from them. I have stopped watching the launches now that I see how fast they produce stuff. It's great and I did by at the wrong moment. So I might come back and see where they are in a year or so I am sure those buying this one will be upset to see a 30-watt rollout in a month lol.

      @@spiritualmamzer1413 Put me in the same boat with you and everyone else who feels a bit butt-hurt about their customer service shortcomings. I sent four emails before I had any contact w/XTool at all. Honestly, I don't think I would have heard from them at all if I hadn't gone on their "Live" show last night where they featured an extended model enclosure a week or two after introducing the original enclosure. After ducking me for several weeks, they want me to pay the return postage AND the 10% "restocking fee" to upgrade to the 20w laser. I am seriously disappointed, since I haven't even opened the boxes yet. I'll probably end up with the package (10w) my wife bought me for Father's Day, but if I do, I'll be on every "Live" show they have complaining about their poor Customer Service. I ordered the d1, then there was an announcement that they would be releasing a 20w laser, an extension kit, an enclosure............... on and on. This is fabulous to see a company developing new products. I still do not have my 20w laser or my extension kit. They have released a new complete kit which is awesome but I feel they have not considered their existing customers promised products. I would like to see them offer an upgrade package so that you are able to make your d1 into a pro. You seem to have a good working relationship with xtool, PLEASE contact them with these concerns as I have already. They said explicitly during the livestream that they won’t offer any upgrades for the old model, I think this is because the new one is 24v and the old one is 12v, so everything would have to be exchanged (all the electronics), so it would probably be hard for the end user/expensive. Also, I think part of the limit switches is built into the rails, so you wouldn’t have a way to attach the limit switches to the old machine.

    I saw a video of yours back at the beginning of May. I ordered the D1 and paid extra for the 20w laser head, the honeycomb, air assist and air purifier. Then they brought out the Enclosure a week or so later. I ordered one. So far, 2 months later I have been drip-fed, the D1 machine with the 10w laser head installed, the honeycomb floor a week later and the Air Purifier 3 weeks later. I haven't unpacked any of it as I wanted to wait for the Air Assist. Well, I have a white elephant sitting in my lounge still in their boxes then X-Tool bring out the D1 PRO which makes all that I have OBSOLETE. We are told that we can return the 'older' machine WITHIN 2 WEEKS. But there are hoops that we have to jump through and more $'s to pay. First of all, I would like to know why we are charged TAXES when we are in other countries. 2nd of all, why X-Tool sends you and other Laser promoters the machines for FREE to drum up business for them when they can't even fill the orders they have. Meanwhile, the likes of the PAYING customers have to wait months to have their orders filled. I am beginning to wish that I had never saw your video or heard of X-Tool.

    the colors in THEIR example is due to material... kinda like when you burn a QUALITY knife blade.. or heat up a QUALITY aluminum exhaust pipe... I bought an after market exhaust for my motorcycle, paid like $1500 for the pipe.. out the box the pipe was a flat colored silver aluminum BUT after I rode the bike for a few hours, the heat on the pipe from the engine created a bluish rainbow - no laser needed... its the heat. The red color for the pro is nice as long as you don't scratch it... seems like the red will show more wear and tear over time... but it does look nice out the box.

    The idea that limit switches are "training wheels" is extremely silly. They allow for automatic homing by the machine, and are common in CNC machines such as CNC lathes, mills, and routers; Co2 lasers; and 3D printers as they allow for the use of absolute coordinates and a repeatable return to the same location. The safety of not destroying your machine is a bonus, especially with 5, 6, and 7 figure machines.

Not sure what brick means i guess just throw it over board did you have use this software when doing your demo if so it would be great to pass that along.

    Hey Nick, first off thanks for all the videos. Quick question. I also have the D1, it has a separate connection for the rotary tool, which I would just leave plugged in all the time to decrease the amount of handling of those small JST plugs. I see on the Pro, you will have to remove the connector each time you use the tool. Whats your experience having to do this each time? I know your using your laser much more than I am. Nice looking rig there brother. Thanks for the show and tell.
    I'm the guy in Missouri from a prior video live chat thing and say I saw from another of your vids we have the same phone case - I've been using it (or several identical but different colors actually) for many years now but have until now never came across anyone else that ever even saw it before lol we should chat more...
    But back to the laser topic at hand. And while not directly related to this machine since this machine is bigger it raises a question. Does the higher power require a different amount of air on the air assist? And really for me - how do you figure out how much air is right? My setup is a 10w unit with the nozzle attached to the lens. Based on random info I found somewhere I got a large 4 port aquarium pump and plumbed them all together which provided what I thought was pretty good (absolutely no basis for comparison though). I've only had some limited time to test it because it's currently in the living room (laptop is being fixed) but the max flow made all my tests burn worse until I turned it almost off which I didn't think was making any difference then. Seriously just starting out though and probably doing it wrong lol so perhaps topic for a video?

    • @BuildDadBuild
      @BuildDadBuild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ed!
      The amount of air doesn't seem to matter between the 10 and 20 watt. As far and how much air pressure? I really don't know. My air assist from xTool doesn't have any sort of regulator.

    Is the D1 pro actually faster compared to the D1? or is the 20W version that has more power hence needs less time to engrave?

    • @MadnessWorx
      @MadnessWorx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s actually faster, XTool explains it in their video with both having 10W heads. If I remember correctly, it burned the same design 4x’s faster

    Hi Nick, my xTool D1 laser has slipped out of place a couple of times. I've checked the piece that is suppose to tighten the laser in place but it still slips and ends up sliding onto my wood that I am engraving. Has this happen to you before?

      It has not. But I need more specifics to try and figure out what is going on.

      Depends on the material. Most often you’ll need some sort of laser marking spray.

    I usually like your videos, but not really cool to state this products is the biggest, the baddest, the most powerful.... the atomstack is equal or greater than in pretty much every category. For very comparable price, it also doesn't have an air assist included. You can hype the product all you like without stating incorrect facts. My $0.02

    You have such a great reputation and following. However you need to know as a promoter and Influencer that you are promoting a company that has zero customer service, non-existant. We follow you for your word and guidance. Your videos convinced me to buy this machine. The company however is horrible which makes promoting them bad on your name. Please make sure you relay this to your viewers.

      I have spoken to this on multiple occasions. Your best bet is to join the xTool Facebook group. Easiest way to get to customer service.
