As a parent it is OBVIOUS Dr. Mike doesn’t have kids. If he ever becomes a parent he would immediatey have a different opinion than he has now. If I’m with my kid constantly I don’t need to bond with them 24/7. Being on a swing means I can get a couple minutes of some semblance of conversation with friends via phone. Only thing that mom did wrong is that she couldn’t swing her child AND look at her phone at the same time.
@@FishoD Yeah, but that's kinda the whole point - you can't look at your phone and push your child at the same time. If it's not a work-mergency, or life-death situation, it wouldn't kill you to put the phone down for five minutes and fully engage with your child. For 5 minutes. Your social life will not collapse within that time. Also, I refuse to believe that anyone who has a child, or at least a child they acknowledge and care for would say "it" over "them."
About the lemon essential oil one: citrus essential oils contain limonene which dissolves rubbers and grease pretty well (was used to clean engines and bikes a while back). That’s why it pops the rubber bands. If you want to witness it you can peel an orange close to an inflated balloon it will pop if any of the oil gets in contact with the rubber! It’s pretty toxic and corrosive in large quantities or if it’s pure enough, like most essential oils though.
The limonene makes a lot of sense. That's the one they extract from citrus for cleaning products and makes citrus less ideal for compost, right? ...I kinda wanna try that balloon experiment now, but I hate making waste with balloons. But I've also found that almost any oil I use in the ends of my hair will break those tiny elastics down overnight. Even just olive oil.
I have a hiatal hernia and i wish all i had to do to was switch my laying position during a flare up. It really takes a controlled diet, and medication, or surgery if it’s bad enough to control it. Also, it’s really hard to try and fall asleep at all when it feels like your whole esophagus is burning so laying down at all just tends to make it worse.
From my experience, lying down on my left side does actually help reduce acid reflux and the feeling of needing to throw up. I get acid reflux frequently and I used to have chronic gastritis and trust me lying on my left side really helps. I don't have a hiatal hernia though so I couldn't tell you if it would help you.
I also have hiatal hernia and yeah, during a flareup it won't do much, but sleeping on my left side has helped me tremendously in preventing flareups and acid reflux. ...But that's how these channels get you. You think 'Oh, that works for me, the rest must be legit too.' But 90% of it is just rubbish.
The first bandaid one: Offering a child a choice often gives them a feeling of control over the scary situation they're facing, and they're more likely to comply.
@@bred7551 It's a psychological thing. Symbolically "taking care of" the wound, even if the bandaid does nothing, at least validates the patient's (kid's) injury and provides a psychological "bandage" of sorts.
I would love to see some kind of collab between Dr. Mike and Ann Reardon of "How to Cook That" (probably virtual, as she lives in Australia), as she does a lot of videos debunking hacks, especially from content farm sites like 5-Minute Crafts. You could even make it more "fun" by having Ann try to figure out what exactly is wrong on the medical hacks, and Dr. Mike try to figure out what's wrong with the baking/cooking hacks. She recently had TH-cam take down her video warning people about the dangers of fractal wood burning, while leaving up the actual fractal wood burning videos she was warning about, so she could use a boost in viewership that could come from such a collab.
I love that Dr. Mike was more concerned about the little girl swallowing a seed, but I’m more concerned about her psychological health bc she’s gonna think watermelon tastes like milk😂😂😂
The one with the band-aid hearts isn't so much about making the band-aid pretty, but about giving the child several _options_ to choose from, which makes them feel some control over the situation. It's a tried and true way of getting obstinate kids to cooperate. It works with clothes, food, chores, etc.
There's another tried and true way to get obstinate kids to cooperate, don't raise obstinate kids in the first place. Oh so you think that's impossible? Like, you will not change your opinion no matter what? Hmm I wonder where did your child learn such ironic stupidity.
I completely agree that giving the kid a choice makes most issues easier. Plus, kids are quite difficult to deal with anyway so you might as well make it easier with toys and treats,, ect. ❣️❣️ Who doesn't love a cute baby doll
@@hamjudo lol. But that's the point, you're giving the child a reason to cooperate (some kids, or at some ages, are non-compliant). So, you can say, "do you want to hold my right hand or my left hand?" But we both know, Daddy is holding his kid's hand, mandatory.
I actually have one of those suction cups. Many people in my family are allergic to bees and it does work to remove bee stingers. Also great for if a venomous animal bites you. That being said if it's highly venomous... not helpful! Go to the doctor!
As someone who has GERD and Gastroparesis and has spent many hours with my gastroenterologist finding ways to alleviate symptoms, I have to say that laying on the left side vs the right side does make a big difference if symptoms are flaring up. I know it won’t cure heartburn but there is truth to that one.
My one month old was diagnosed with severe GERD and they told me to feed her while she's on her left side because if the shape of the stomach and it would help her with the GERD and to keep the food down better
Australia that’s why those swings are because I’m Australian. I see those everywhere by the way I’m on my dad‘s account. I am a female. I’m not telling any of you my age
As a person who suffers from violent migraines, the pulling of the hair actually gives temporary relief. Grab it by the scalp and apply pressure. I learned that from my father who also suffers fr migraines , Apparently an old trick to use
one thing that would help prevent them is to educate people that migraines are actually the blood vessels spasming.. If you can take actions to prevent THAT, then you wont have the neurological result from it. One can get ocular migraines as well ( I used to from a stressful job) that cause all sorts of weird visual effects (blood vessels in retina spasming)
You know what also works that is a pretty odd technique? Putting pressure on the skin between your thumb and pointer finger. As a lifetime sufferer of migraines, it never worked for me. BUT, it works a treat for my husband. Probably some decent medical reason as to why, but it always confused me. I take Neurontin 3 times a day and that has drastically reduced the number of migraines I get.
@@ZakhadWOW you are sounding as if it was an easy fix. I've had blood pressure medication to no use. Yes ,the blood vessels are effected during a migraine but the cause is unknown. It effects the entire nervous system
Okay but you are still damaging the hair follicles and thus cause fall out eventually. It's safer to apply a cloth wrapped around an ice pack or use proper medication.
3:00 I’m from the Netherlands and these are everywhere (they look really nice, but first, you can’t swing yourself so someone always has to want to push you and second, they huuuuurt to sit/lay on, but they are really fun)
If/when Dr. Mike ever has a daughter or a niece, he will learn very quickly that you NEVER use rubber bands on hair. It will knot the hair and they ARE impossible to get out without a lot of ripping, pulling and screaming.
@@dafrandle Is it damaging to put a bit of lemon juice on the hair? Lemon juice alone can pop a balloon because of the citric acid so i guess it can break small rubber bands too.
I used elastics all the time with no issues. My daughter's hair and niece's hair was done for days with no issues. We got them out just fine and no tangles or knots. They both have thick, curly hair.
All you have to do is oil the rubber bands before you put them in and they'll slide right off (even weeks later). I like argon oil but really anything will due. If you have oily hair and dont want to risk adding oil, you can also put a little leave in conditioner on them.
I have absolutely used the citrus essential oil trick on rubber hair bands! In super fine hair it can get incredibly tangled by the end of the day. There is enough acidity to break the rubber band and does nothing to the hair, an absolute game changer.
I couldn't ride a bike until I was 6 years old. My mom got lots of backpain trying to push me so we took an old hokey stick and taped it on. Worked like a charm.
@samdoesstuff Depends on where you live I'd imagine. Like, here in the Netherlands everyone has a bike and most kids learn how to ride a bike somewhere between 3 and 6 years old. But we cycle everywhere, so it makes a lot of sense. Like, I learned how to ride my bike before I learned how to swim.
I was 8 years old when i learned to ride a bike. it just heres a two wheeler and we will guide you on the take off and away you got ended up in my moms rose bush a couple of times and in many ditches
You and Ann Riordan from How To Cook That should collab on debunking 5 minute crafts and other dangerous TH-cam hacks! Love your videos, thank you for educating people!
The rubber bands one is relatively safe actually. The chemical reaction going on is limonene in the lemon essential oil dissolving the rubber and causing it to fail. Limonene is also in orange and lemon peels naturally. It's the same chemical reaction that happens if you've ever seen one of those "pop a balloon with an orange peel" videos.
As a medical professional myself... I would have to say that the first clip (re: pulling your hair with a headache) can help lol. If you pull your hair hard enough it does act as a distraction from the actual pain in your head while you do it.
Did you laugh a multiple of three times, five times, or a common product of three and five? Dang it. That means a multiple of fifteen times, which is a really long string of laugh noises.
7:27 as someone who put rubber bands in her hair as a child because I liked the colours I can tell you cutting them is the only painless way to get them out because the rubber grips your hair so when you pull it you pull out at least a few strands of hair
As a natural born American I love that your family came here with little, wanting a better life, and GOT it. You came not speaking English, and now you’re a successful doctor and TH-cam star. Love it. ✌️
The way Sam questioned how to cope with anxiety shows that therapy isn't the first thing people think of when dealing with something like that. As a psychology mayor student it really stood out to me. Not saying Sam is ignorant or anything, just stating the importance of therapy in people's everyday life. Great work there Mike❤️
Anxiety before a social event, particularly one in a work setting where it could reflect badly on you to make mistakes, is fairly normal, and definitely isnt something i would see a patient over, other than to offer some tips on breathing exercises. but hey, five minute crafts will be sending business my way if i ever go back into Psych or Trauma med. For now, im going to stick to doing autopsies and filling out Death Certs. a lot less stress.
I took it more as Sam questioning what to do for people who don't know. Drawing an explanation out. Though it definitely could be that he didn't know what was recommended. I am just curious what are standard things that would be recommended. I understand that nothing would work for everyone but I also don't think it's a big enough of a deal for most people to go out of their way to ask. Some should if it's an extreme anxiety or stress causing issue

@@permafrost1030 I don't know why a kid wouldn't like to drink water... when I was little, all the kids from my gang drank water from the tap, from a garden hose, the creek, a spring...the only way to get bottled water was to wait until the soda or beer would be drank, give the bottle a rinse and then fill it with "drinking" water. Kids these days are way too spoiled about the most basic things.
The heartburn tip...I was told that when I was preggo with my second and seriously it helped so much. I still notice a difference when I have occasional symptoms. Should be said though - preventative steps are always the way to go!
My mom had heart burn when she was pregnant with me. She said she lived off of tums and that's why I have walked away from two falls off a galloping horse with no more than large scrapes. This comment reminded me of the story so thought it would be a good place to share. :)
@@thatrandomonekaylasayshell9748 haha that's awesome. TMI - I ate so many tums, the placenta was extra tough. 😂 My water never broke and the placenta literally shredded into pieces as she was born. 😂 So weird haha 😂
I’ve been told the same tip by each of my OBGYNs for all 4 of my pregnancies and I can confirm that I eat a lot fewer tums than I would otherwise. I still eat them, because it turns out hairy babies **do** in fact cause severe heartburn, but I can at least get most of a good night’s sleep if I lay on my left side.
7:11 that would likely be due to limonene, a common chemical found in citrus fruits, particularly the peels. It breaks down certain types of rubber. Acetone also works for breaking down rubber more effectively, but most hair ties are not made of the same flimsy rubber that balloons are made from. This wouldn’t always work
In regards to the sleeping girl hairband clip: Not sure if it works the same with the rubber in hairbands, but there's a chemical in lemon and orange zest called limonene which dissolves latex. You can see this if you squeeze a lemon peel onto a balloon, it'll pop. So that's where I think this came from, but not sure if it works. Please correct me if I've made any mistakes or give more information in the comments.
I’ve seen loads of people do that on tiktok. I take them out to reuse. If it’s high up in the hair a bit of conditioner will help them slide out. I just think about all those millions of bits of plastic hair ties being left everywhere on earth.
Actually, getting the kid to pick the bandaid can be a life hack. If you need your kid to do something, telling "you have to do this" might end up with fighting, but giving them two seemingly different options that eventually lead to the same desired outcome will make the child psychologically think they made the choice and they will feel appreciated and feel happier about it. Even if it's just to pick whether they want a "grownup" bandaid or a Batman bandaid.
I think the "hack" was just the kid not wanting a boring bandaid so they drew on it to make it pretty when you can go buy bandaids with cool designs on them and let your kid pick which kind they want lol
This pill-in-gummibear hack is going to backfire so hard. I once was zoned out when I took one of medication for my migraine and chewed it instead of just swallowing and I almost threw up. It was so disgusting. They make those pills disgustingly bitter for a reason so kids no nom on them like skittles.

Hi Dr. Mike. I’m a teacher from Toronto, Canada. Would you ever consider doing a series on the American Sex Education curriculum across states? It seems like it varies so much and could be a great commentary coming from a doctor or multiple doctors and teachers who work in different states. Great video!
after Anne Reardon (from HowToCookThat) did heaps and heaps about how not only wrong but sometimes highly dangerous these videos are (despite the newest one being banned 🙄), I completely avoid them - and love everyone who keeps debunking and making fun of this, so hopefully they do less harm over time.

Heres actually a useful tip for bee stings, when removing the stinger, don't pinch it, since the venom glands are still attached to the stinger and by pinching it you will inject more venom into your wound, so instead flick it out, but be careful not to flick it in further.
Hey Doctor Mike, I'm a Lifeguard with the YMCA and we do camps all throughout summer. We are all trained in CPR/AED and First Aid but we have kids that come in and have severe allergies that require an Epipen, but the YMCA does not have the training to administer Epipen's nor the funding to provide them incase of an emergency. Which means if a kid does have an allergic reaction and their airway started to closed up I can only call EMS and administer CPR [CHEST COMPRESSIONS,CHEST COMPRESSIONS,CHEST COMPRESSIONS!] if needed. My question is if you think we should look further into it and maybe find a better solution or if we should leave it the way it is? P.S. love your videos
@@jana31415 yeah it’s simple but Im guessing providing the official “training” would incur some legal responsibility on the part of the YMCA, that’s my guess as to why they wouldn’t do it
@@Tika927 My random guess that is not worth much as I have almost no knowledge about healthcare, but while the training for administering epipens can be easy, can the training for diagnosing allergic reactions harder, and the misdiagnosis of that be dangerous?
@@pedroneves7165 Yeah I don’t have quite enough background either but that sounds right too. Googling it, it seems like other YMCAs may administer Epi’s, so maybe it’s just a thing with OPs local one.
7:15 that trick definitely makes sense because if you remove the rubber band from the hair follicle, you would easily rip or tear the hair follicle. That's because the hair always keeps being stuck in between the rubber bands. Even though I don't have lemon essential oil, but still the thought about that tho, life hacks. But removing the rubber band from the hair follicle like what other normal people do is too far.
Hey Dr. Mike! I have dealt with chronic migraines my whole life, they started when I was 8 and I'm in my mid twenties now. I know the hair pulling for migraines seems counterintuitive, but it can help depending on the person! Light pulling can give a different sensation to focus on to distract from the migraine. When my medication doesn't work, having another sensory input to focus on is the only thing that can help combat the waves of pain. Definitely depends on the person, but it might help! 5 minute crafts was onto something, but it isn't nearly what they were describing.
Look into fascia blasting, a lot of people get relief from migraines by using the small tool on your scalp, your face, neck, and traps… on top of that, magnesium deficiency is often a big contributor to migraines… the hair tugging kindof works the same as the fascia blaster… hope you can get some relief!
I have the same experience, also a chronic migraine sufferer. Sometimes tugging on my hair particularly at the temples gives some temporary relief, too. Tiger balm or something similar on my temples, forehead and back of my neck often helps too.
@@marzipancutter8144 You’re definitely right, that’s the whole point. For me when my medication doesn’t work, all you can do it try to distract yourself with things that are somewhat relaxing. Anything so you’re not hyper focused on the pain.

So true, but my girlfriend just buys Dove Oat, milk & Honey or something like it. She got dozens of bottles. No idea if it actually works, but they for sure all smell nice ;-)
The essential oil rage had me laughing so hard my side hurts 😂 Those 5 minute hacks will get you killed or looking like a monster 🤣 Loved all the Pokémon references btw! Gotta catch ‘em all!
Actually, I remember citric acid can dissolve rubber. So the mother could have also used a orange peel or some lemon juice. And also those rubber bands are sometimes painful to remove cause it pulls on the scalp.
It isn't citric acid. Essential oils don't really contain acids (oils don't, generally, mix with acids.) It is an oil, in this case, a hydrocarbon that is naturally found in orange peels. When concentrated it is dangerous to human skin. Citric acid cannot dissolve rubber. (For much the same reason that oil and acid don't mix.)
Or maybe she could have just used actual hair ties with a smooth surface when making the braids, instead of household rubber bands, that really stick on your hair. 5-minutes crafts is in most cases just dumb and unfortunately in some cases highly dangerous. In this case it's just dumb.
Thank you SO much for calling out the hair combing hack. I have OCD and there are SO many "hacks" like that exist claiming to manage anxiety and what they are really doing is causing a lot of harm. I literally carried a lollystick around for two YEARS to repeatedly stab myself with because it "made me feel better" when actually is was just placating me and bruising my hand. Never manage anxiety with rituals of any sort, its more trouble than its worth especially if you have a condition like OCD.
I have ocd too. I am constantly hitting myself with anything and everything including my hands because of the distress and frustration of the intrusive thought and compulsions. Exposure therapy works. Face the anxiety inducing thought/situation and firmly but gently resist the compulsive act or ritual. The “oil” on the rubber band hair ties is more of a cosmetic hack. Definitely does not have to be essential oils, olive oil works great too. 5:26 Tip: If you get dust particles in your eyes, then blink continuously. Blinking lubricates and cleans your eyes by spreading your tears over its outer surface. It also protects your eye by closing it to keep out dust, other irritants, very bright light, and foreign objects.
It happened to my daughter and I had to take her to the emergency room. Thank God I had eye drops with me. The doctor said that the eye drops helped take most of it out. I could have also tried flushing it out with water. However, he said not good to continue blinking because the particle that's in your eye could scratch your cornea. He said I did a good job and he made sure her eyes were free of the sand. 🙂
in my experience, all that does is gather all the sand under the eyelid and it burns for days... I prefer to flush it out with saline solution. It's cheap, it's sterile and it works. And I clean out the lashes with wet gauze or cotton disk... or wet wipe.
I simply cry it out. It's easy for me to fake cry most of the time, but when I can’t, I try not to blink and my eyes start watering and whatever's inside flushes out

yes and the reason the mom didnt just pull them out was because she was asleep and it would hurt her, wake her up, and the elastics would be ruined anyway
More like using scissors is better than putting chemicals into a child's hair. And yes, there are scissors than can cut rubber hairties very easily. They're like £2/$3.
Hi Doc Mike! the sleeping on the left side actually helped me A LOT during the time I had severe heart burn and even helped my friends who had heart burn from stress, it does actually work.
I've had GERD for years (to the point that I have it back up into my airway and i throw up) and have had FAR less problems when sleeping on my left side. OBVIOUSLY medication and reduction of certain foods works better, but from time to time this is the trick that helps me get the last little bit of GI comfort.
I don't have an actual diagnosis (docs think possible weakened esophageal muscles) but I found the same thing. Laying on my left side definitely helps. I'd also suggest investing in a cheap bed wedge that props you up a little when you sleep. If I lay flat for too long, even if I haven't eaten in a long time, I get heartburn but being propped up, even just 5-15 degrees helps a lot.
While I absolutely agree that preventative measures are best, switching to your left side to sleep if you are having an acid reflux flare up is pretty effective. I mean, I can't un-eat that thing that unexpectedly caused my flare up but I certainly can roll over.
7:13 Limonene is a harmless chemical found in all citric fruits that eats through rubber pretty easily. If you squeeze an orange too close of a baloon it may pop as soon as a droplet hit its surface. But yeah, using it to remove a hair band seems like a strech
Gently pulling your hair to "lift" and massage your scalp really does give momentary relief from extreme headache pain. Also (sometimes) this open whisk looking head scratchers that tickle the scalp can sometimes help too.
The key here is momentarily. If your headache is relieved by stimulating the nerves in the muscles of your head, you should probably get a neck and shoulder massage. Muscle tension in those areas can radiate up the neck and cause headaches. So don't pull the hair. Just get a neck and shoulder massage and drink some water, to help the body get rid of the lactic acid that caused the tension in the first place.
@@Arterexius if you massage it wrongly can it actually send more tension up to the head? Looking to see if it's something I can just do myself or need to wait to see an actual massage therapist
I LOVE these videos! Thanks for the laughs! Also: I heard that the lemon oil actually works for rubber hair ties. The acid in it somehow dissolves the rubber just enough to weaken it to snap, but not harmful for your hair. My friends swear by it.
I like how the problem presented in the Swing hack one is that she's paying so much attention to the phone that she forgets to keep swinging the kid....and that the kid is close enough to get her attention. So the solution to the first part would be, put phone away keep being attentive and swinging the kid. But the actual problem is that your kid can physically alert you to their complaint because you're so close by, therefore, you need to get farther away from your child via the rope. The only part they chickened out on was having the mom back on her phone with the longer rope option.
@@LycanKai14 There's nothing wrong with using your phone while you have children, but in the right time. You aren't going to promise to bring your child to the playground and swing them on a swing just so you could use the phone at the same time. Can't it wait for when you get home?
@@LycanKai14 But she's gonna have to keep remembering to do the swinging motion regardless of whether she has a rope or not, so if she swings the kid via rope and gets distracted by her phone, she has just the same problem. She also now has the added downside that she can't rely on haptic feedback to get the timing right when she's looking away, or at least it's going to take more concentration to get right, so she's losing the exact resource she's trying to save on. If they framed this at a lifehack where she wnats to sit down because her legs hurt, it would have been understandable, but as is, it's nonsensical.
@@LycanKai14 That's fair. I really don't think a parent is asking too much if they want to keep some semblance of private life after having children. Kids do take up a lot of time and parents should absolutely be willing to invest that, but it doesn't mean a mother shouldn't be allowed to split up her attention sometimes.
2:37 I’ve heard recently that hydrogen peroxide actually makes the wax softer but makes it puff up and it’s actually harder to remove all of it. Idk I may be wrong the only way I’ve ever been able to get out wax blockage is the water stream they use at the doctors office

As a nanny, getting rubber bands out of a child hair can be a nightmare! If I can't get them out without pulling on the hair I end up just cutting them. Some children don't want their hair done in general so if taking the hair out is painful they will not let you do it again! Also, the swing is called a spider webbed swing they are amazing and very common in my area, you can get one up to a 5ft. radius! They have been around the midwest for some time we have had one for 5yrs. now.
thats what I was saying. Having to teach toddlers its sometimes a nightmare to get rubberbands out of the hair and some kids just dont want you to try so its either try to negotiate with a toddler for 5 min or wait till they go to sleep and try. Also. why criticize a parent for making a job easier with the swing.
The rolling over thing actually does assist my acid reflux, while I do take medicine for it which takes care of it most of the time, it will still act up some times if I'm laying on right side, but it doesn't if I'm ony left side.
Left side is the best side to laying on, because something about the placement of the orgens. I read that once, when I had period pain 😅 And it helped! 😁
I use a wedge pillow to sleep on a gentle incline. My acid reflux was getting so bad it was burning my esophagus, so this pillow has really helped me sleep!

He does have a child 🧐🤨

@@FishoD
Yeah, but that's kinda the whole point - you can't look at your phone and push your child at the same time.
Funny, but as a single parent, pushing a kid on a swing is incredibly boring.
Those small hair bands really hurt to get out (I use them in my hair)… definitely gonna try it!!
Thats what i was thinking abt the balloon!
Tapping a curling iron or similar hot object on the bands works just as well!

The one with the band-aid hearts isn't so much about making the band-aid pretty, but about giving the child several _options_ to choose from, which makes them feel some control over the situation. It's a tried and true way of getting obstinate kids to cooperate. It works with clothes, food, chores, etc.
I guess because then the choice becomes which thing do you want, rather than do you want the thing or not... I think it's used in marketing too.
There's another tried and true way to get obstinate kids to cooperate, don't raise obstinate kids in the first place.
Oh so you think that's impossible? Like, you will not change your opinion no matter what? Hmm I wonder where did your child learn such ironic stupidity.
We're about to cross the street. Do you want to hold Daddy's hand or have Daddy hold your hand?

@@hamjudo lol. But that's the point, you're giving the child a reason to cooperate (some kids, or at some ages, are non-compliant). So, you can say, "do you want to hold my right hand or my left hand?" But we both know, Daddy is holding his kid's hand, mandatory.

As a pregnant woman entering the third trimester, the tips you just have for acid reflux treatment were VERY APPRECIATED!!!!
Through my whole second pregnancy I had horrible acid reflux so bad I could only sleep on my left side.
My OB suggested almond milk to help with acid reflux when I was pregnant. It helped me a lot! It helps my husband who frequently has acid reflux too.
Congratulations on your new little friend 🥹
It's just a head massage, right? I mean, of course a massage is bound to be somewhat relaxing.
@@marzipancutter8144 You’re definitely right, that’s the whole point. For me when my medication doesn’t work, all you can do it try to distract yourself with things that are somewhat relaxing. Anything so you’re not hyper focused on the pain.

I’ve got to defend parents on the removing rubber bands while your kid sleeps hack. Yes, sometimes moms wait till their kids are sleeping to deal with stuff. One time my son had gotten a bad sunburn on his nose (yes he should have re-applied sunblock during the day) but anyway, he would not let me put the aloe vera gel on it while he was awake. I waited until he was asleep.

Or she could have just carefully cut them off?
Or maybe she could have just used actual hair ties with a smooth surface when making the braids, instead of household rubber bands, that really stick on your hair. 5-minutes crafts is in most cases just dumb and unfortunately in some cases highly dangerous. In this case it's just dumb.
@@pawsomekat2003 you can buy those hair ties in the store. They pull because they're rubber not fabric but are small enough to hold kids hair

We’ve had years of people not taking it seriously so it comforting and refreshing when someone highlights it and the damage it can do.🙂
@@piperjaycie i feel you on hitting yourself, it hurts so much but people just either think you're crazy or they dont treat it with the seriousness it deserves. Exposure therapy works. Face the anxiety inducing thought/situation and firmly but gently resist the compulsive act or ritual. It's hard at first but you gradually get masterly over yourself and start to regain your freedom. Worst thing you can do as an OCD person is to indulge your compulsions! Am speaking from experience too.
I have this issue with minty lozenges. I've suffered from nausea for a good 10 years and was told that mint would work, and nowadays I get anxious af if I don't have minty lozenges with me somewhere. Does the mint actually help? Who tf knows because now I have anxiety induced nausea too haha. It's stupid and I would recommend no one to do this to themselves tbh.

The “oil” on the rubber band hair ties is more of a cosmetic hack. Definitely does not have to be essential oils, olive oil works great too. If I’m not mistaken, it breaks down the elasticity of the ties without breaking your hair. I just did this with my partner a month ago when he got his braids removed. The stylist recommended this.
I don't think it should dissolve the rubber ties that fast though. That's what Dr. Mike was concerned about. And why the hack was unrealistic.

Tip: If you get dust particles in your eyes, then blink continuously. Blinking lubricates and cleans your eyes by spreading your tears over its outer surface. It also protects your eye by closing it to keep out dust, other irritants, very bright light, and foreign objects.
Edit: Thanks for the likes people appreciate it.
Thank you for correcting me for my mistake and telling your experiences! I really appreciate it.
I simply cry it out. It's easy for me to fake cry most of the time, but when I can’t, I try not to blink and my eyes start watering and whatever's inside flushes out

Hi Doc Mike! the sleeping on the left side actually helped me A LOT during the time I had severe heart burn and even helped my friends who had heart burn from stress, it does actually work.
and all the advice you gave are very valid, yes.
Same thing for me. Also, my doctor said that it helps so i don't know who's right here.

7:13 Limonene is a harmless chemical found in all citric fruits that eats through rubber pretty easily. If you squeeze an orange too close of a baloon it may pop as soon as a droplet hit its surface.
But yeah, using it to remove a hair band seems like a strech
I like the pun thanks for the comeidion advice

Also, the swing is called a spider webbed swing they are amazing and very common in my area, you can get one up to a 5ft. radius! They have been around the midwest for some time we have had one for 5yrs. now.
