    Looks like an enjoyable way to prep the land for spring plowing...

    Brings back do many memories of my mini racing, was only allowed 850 CC in that formula but sometimes I found a 998 cc engine under the bonnet with modified engine block numbers and where the dipstick was but could not catch the really fast ones, till years later I found the reason they kept the windscreen washer bottle under the bonnet, it fed methanol into the inlet manifold at revs via a switch.. Highly against the rules but Instant power boost...... Hard shock settings dont always help over bumpy ground as drive wheels grab air instead of the dirt at times, so maybe try softer ones next time.. Thanks for the video.. Ian, UK..

    In the UK this is autocross. Rallycross is over a variety of surfaces, both hard and loose, with 4 cars (typically) making a grid. What is autocross in the USA is an auto test or slalom in the UK

    Well this was a really fun video and educational as well. As most of your videos are. Thank you for videoing the event and for the hard work you put in to make all of your videos! I'm always glad to see a new "This week With Cars" Video pop up in my box! Keep it up please. I love watching you work on your great treasures and finds that you buy and show us. So many of these cars I've never had the chance to see up close how they work or what they did to make them. Some are dream cars I've always wanted to own or drive but will never get the chance. Love it!

    I'm guessing a cup-holder wouldn't be much use? Was that a full-width mirror? If so, I've never seen one before. Great idea; they should fit them on *all* cars but, then again, most folks just use them to hang the air freshener.

    Is it possible to find out about the wink mirror in the car? Looks like an actual Wink brand mirror based on the tapered ends and curious where to find another just like it, thank you, and great driving!

      Pegasus racing in the states sells them still, I put them in all my cars.

    Do you use a locked differential? I've seen it done on the "60's Cooper S Minis. It makes steering on dry pavement a handful, but if you corner hard and unload the inside front wheel and let the tire slip it's pretty awesome. You can't be timid about it. One more thing: Studded Minis? Ought to be a law.

  • @victortamini847

    That’s awesome! What a cool event!
    How much leeway did you get in the corners?
    Could you swing wide and avoid the deep ruts?
    How did you finish?
    What class were you in?

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem was everyone could run in the ruts but my car was a lot more narrow and I had to bounce across them.

    Good to see you out there beating on such a valuable car! :P Must have been some pretty competitive times even against the Subarus.
    I'm sure you're a bit of an A-Series expert; is there much tuning?
    I did wonder at first why you had a German plate on it. It says GB though!
    Rallycross is an entirely different sport over here in Europe. Your US namesake looks like some proper grassroots motorsport and very accessible for the amateur. I have fond memories of watching Will Gollop in some very competitive racing at Lydden Hill on TV when I was a kid!
    Another fascinating video from you. Thanks!

      This car has a full built race engine and is now running a single carb instead of the dual SUs that were stock on the S. I used to vintage race this car and you will probably see me post videos of this car on a track as well.

    I love Minis. I lived in Elkader, IA in the late 60's and had a friend with a Mini Cooper very similar to yours. His name was Tom Chandler and he used to participate in gymkhanas and was a pretty good driver. I think that he's still in Iowa somewhere. I can't remember whether his Mini was stock or exactly what...... Since Tom could rarely leave things as they were I believe that he replaced the SU's with DCOE Webers and gave the engine a cam.......? Anyway, what a fun little car....between the Mini and the Spitfire, I'm not sure which was a greater Brit contribution to the world. I'd have a tendency to go with the Mini......Hang in there.

      @@ThisWeekWithCars He still in Elkader? Life has taken me many places since then and I lost track of a lot of people. He was a likeable fellow and when he did work on cars his builds were clean and functional.. Thanks for posting the race, Steve.

      Super Marine Spitfire, not the Triumph, right?

    • @tomnekuda3818
      @tomnekuda3818 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johna1160 You got it. Even tho I have a soft spot in my heart for TR6's I was referring to the aircraft. One thing about a lot of the British cars....they could solve the world's oil crisis in that if they held 6 quarts of oil, they could leak out 7 quarts. Go figger....as near as I could tell the cars must have "manufactured" oil. Same with the British bikes of the time. I rode a 650 Triumph and it could do the same. Oh yeah, the bike had Lucas (The Prince of Darkness) lighting. Many a dark night , flying down the road, the lights would....without warning.....just quit. I never did trace it down. I'm telling you, when it did that sort of thing, it was Depends Undergarments time and later you had to get a torch and a 5 lb hammer to get the pucker marks out of the seat cover! Not kidding! Other than that it was a nice bike.....all you had to do is nod your head and it would just fall into a corner....very good handling......beautiful paint and chrome.

      I believe Tom and I are two of the three people with an Austin Moke in Iowa. Tom got the sister car to my white one. I think the dealership got three and one was destroyed.

    Hi Steve. Left foot braking was the hot tip in the '60's. You have a very early shell, the window locks are brass , l think they changed to plastic bodies in about '64. Cooper "S" did not come with twin tanks as standard it was always a factory option. I could pick a few more anomalies with your "S" but that would come under the heading. Trivial pursuit. I know how passionate you are with your fabulous collection of British vehicles. Very enjoyable as always.
