Can we appreciate the fact that
    their feathers are so high-tech
that they don't need chemical pigments
    to generate colors?

Many birds have that ability,, thus why they can sometimes be more colorful then mammals. Would be interesting to know if their extinct theropoda cousins had the same ability with their quills/feathers.

When I got married in 2017, I moved in with my husband & his mother. I've introduced her to the little hummers. This year, 2021, she was standing at the front screen door looking out & one flew up to her and was right in her face, looking at her. She sits by the window and I have a feeder at her window, so I told her it probably recognized her. She was so very excited. It's amazing how such a small hummer can bring such joy to a 74 yr old. 💞 I was excited to see her so happy 😊.

I care more about "my" hummingbirds during the summer than anything else. A gallon of sugar water a day. My trees seem like a swarm of bees. I inherited the house and the responsibility. My grandmother kept generations of them fed.
I watched this video and it reminded me, my small part helps them feed their chicks.
They get all competitive with each other...until it starts to rain, then, it's a lets all get what we can drink. Watching the ruby throats and emeralds all feeding together reminds me how we should all be getting along.

About enjoying things without bringing in spiritual beliefs... for me, my beliefs are part of me, they are not an add on. So when I enjoy something my enjoyment flows out of my life as a Christian. The other thing is that I don't have a problem with honest comments like things appearing creepy if they are not what you expect. It's not an abusive comment. And if people want to discuss beliefs openly, honestly, respectfully as they reflect on the origins of something which both enjoy and appreciate, then that's fine by me :) After all, like the hummingbird, we're all going to die and it's important that we give serious thought to what happens after death. Maybe some people do, if only we lived in a perfect world there would be no need for heaven. It's amazing what the human race has accomplished through the decades, but no matter what good we did will be judged on the evils we have done. Whatever created this creature I like to say thanks for the few things that are great in this world.

itsasin1969 I agree with you, people will twist and corrupt religion to control the masses. My uncle's a Christian to the bone (reads the bible every night), but no matter what the church or his family says he'll always love his gay daughter. I personally don't follow the bible, but hopefully people will eventually follow the good and acknowledge the evil out of the Bible and Quran.

Yes, that's pretty amazing, the humming bird being the only bird in the world that can fly backwards... but also on it's side (and upside down too I've heard). Love slow motion humming birds.

Ghanshyam Kumar Yes, and that’s because they got the idea from them for the helicopter to fly like that.

@Dark Phoenix I used to call these helicopters as a kid.

Amazing video, thanks. I myself have had some interaction with hummingbirds, from a face to face with the biggest hummer in the world to the birds perching on my finger. In the last few days I've had a young female Rufous visiting my garden. Two days ago she came up and gave me a kiss, checking down my cheek with her tongue and beak. What an honor.

WOW! That's so amazing. Thanks for sharing your hummingbird experience. There are no hummingbirds where I live in New Zealand so it's great hearing stories like this.

    I LOVE THEIR FEATHERS ♡.♡

You're right, the feathers are something different. It's quite amazing the the sparkly colours of the humming birds feathers are not because there are multiple colours but due the the way the light dances off them. Amazing!

I am rapidly losing my eyesight. I put mini window suction cup hummingbird feeder’s on my windows and I am able to see those beautiful creatures of God at work many times a day. Thank you for this great and informative video

Thank you for sharing you personal story about the hummingbird and your struggle with your eyesight. Your eyes are precious and sight is a gift many of us take for granted. I'm so pleased you are able to enjoy such beauty up front and personal with the feeders you have on your windows for the hummingbird. What a great idea. And yes, these beautiful creatures are, like you, all part of God's beautiful creation.

Thanks you. Do you have hummingbirds where you live. There are none here in New Zealand. I have just finished my big end of year project. The link is below. Would love to know what you think. th-cam.com/video/LDo9NsxJrnM/w-d-xo.html 🦋
