Headset is 1 1/4”. I already put a ridgid fork on it for a gravel conversion. Top tube is long, but slanted down, so DJ might not be so much of a stretch.
@@TechwonderlandI wouldn’t even if it has a threadless headset. The frame is 100% not strong enough and will probably snap with any serious dirt jumping. The geometry will be horrible as well.
Loving it! „Can you make X out of Y“ is definitely one of the many favorite contents that this channel provides and basicly the mode in which my brain likes to operate for hours.
I bought a Trek Marlin 5 on Offerup. A few months later, a GT Avalanche Sport came up for sale with a better spec than the Marlin 5, for cheaper. I bought the GT and it's far more rugged than the Trek. So I put the better parts on it and took the good parts that had been put on the GT off and put them in the Marlin 5. I then converted the Trek to single speed, with a 100mm Fox 32 fork I got for $80. It makes a fun street machine for pump tracks, hopping curbs and bombing stair sets. It's essentially a "dirt jumper" with 29" wheels. It's really fun to ride around. But, I did the conversion for very cheap. If I had to spend any real money, I would have bought a dirt jumper. I converted it because I already had a hardtail bike, so why would I need a lesser version to ride in trails? Now, depending on conditions, I choose either the GT and off-road or the Trek and street cruising.
Would it be possible to put the coaster brake on a 29 inch bike? I bought an Alfameq frame but not if it's possible I'm from Brazil and here the 29er bikes are only available with brands

I actually picked up a 2021 giant talon that a guy was going to take to the junk yard. Was still basically brand new. Kids never used it. I was working at his house and seen him load it into his trailer. I asked what he was doing with it and he said he was cleaning his yard up and dumping it with a few other things so i asked if i could take it instead and he said yeah no worries. Wasn't sure what i was going to do with it but this might be an option 🤔
Ha! I did the exact same thing (with a Cotic BFe26 no less) after a pump track was built in my village! I broke the rule about over-spending on it however...
In my experience a unicorn gear does not work good enough. I would advise looking for a cheap frame with horizontal dropouts. Chain tension is so important!
im on the giant website and see no DJ bikes. i just moved to Ireland, im 30 and used to ride bmx as a kid and need a winter hobby as there is not much going on here. I used to ride a giant mtb and loved their bikes, whats the deal?
I had a Canyondale F7 I put a 30t chain ring and a 17t sprocket and ended up with 92 links that came out perfect. Added a chain guide on the chain ring for closure.
Love the video - just wondering what sort of frame I'd need to get to do the same thing please? I am 6ft 6ins and struggle on a traditional DJ bike so wanted to go down the conversion route but need a hand as to what frame to look for i.e. trail, XC and also what size/geometry to look for - thanks in advance
I'm about to throw some 26inch wheels on my timberjack in hopes of it being like this bad boy you've got. geared dj/goofy trail bike that makes me laugh through rock gardens
What’s the website you used to find the ideal gear ratio?
yeah i can't find it ether
Yea what is it I searched for twenty minutes and can’t find it
There’s not even a rear brake 😂
It's actually not needed for a dirt jumper
It’s not needed
Is this something I could do with a generic 80’s 26” MTB? Asking for a friend. Who is definitely me.
I mean you can take the brakes off and single speed any bike but bikes that old will probably not have ideal geometry.
If your bike has a threaded 1” rigid fork, you probably won’t find a headset that can fit with a modern suspension.

There are a few 27.5 DJ bikes out now, like the specialized P4. Wonder if we will see more of these since they seem to be good for taller riders

Worth noting eccentric bottom brackets, I've never used one but do know that velo orange sells one for threaded BBs now.

Inspiring, in the process of doing exactly what you did with a Cotic bfe 26” in readiness for a pump track which is being built in our village. 😊

So can anyone tell me why you don't just use a BMX to do BMX like things?
add a bolt on cog, flip the wheel, add straps = ultimate tracklocross

What’s the website for calculating the chain length?
What is the website called

I did the same with an old 26" Gary Fisher and parts from my ben. It's a small frame but that actually work out great.
I have an 03 Giant Acid I've been considering converting to a DJ 🤔
Goddamn that looks beautiful!
Sweet setup! Would love to get my hardtail set up again
Hi, my name is Eric and if that bike isn’t a Dirt Jumper, yes it is.
Seat grab to suicide was dope.
Great deal on the Norton frame right now
Gotta see it at the jump track right?
I liked that intro.
Tinker Thursday
That tbog disaster was sweet.

Sure you can!
