There was only a brief delay as the French troops surrendered. Didn't take long to find an interpreter and things were back on schedule.

You are exactly the type of person who will never understand or appreciate the great history behind this event. France and the UK have been great rivals for centuries and if you care more about the homeless go and do smth abt it then. Go and give to charity rather than waste ur time under these comment sections to spread ur misery to people who want to enjoy tradition like this.

Yeap people go hungry, soldiers die for us, people are being stabbed, assaulted etc. so what ur saying is if they quit all this royal stuff the hungry would be fed, soldiers wouldn't get killed, people wouldn't get stabbed REALLY??? Maybe if people like u tried treating people with a little kindness, less would go hungry. How many hungry families/homeless have u helped.

This sort of thing helps to promote this country, promote international relations and thereby business, imports and exports. It is a known fact that this palaver does actually work in this factor and therefore offsets the costs to this country accordingly. Also, these soldiers are employed to protect our country. Whilst there is not a war, they need to be seen to help remind other more hostile countries that we do have a military, and if nothing else it helps to give the soldiers something to do other than polishing their shoes.
The soldiers are paid a fairly low salary, but also pays taxes, etc so essentially they’re paying for their own performance.
I would understand more if you were ranting about the tories money spending hooray Henry behaviour which costs far, far more than this kind of event ever will.
