Finally got a Glenallachie 12 and it is fantastic! I see why comparing this to Glendronach is challenging and super close. Both are absolute wins. Just so good!!
Hi Alan! If offered a choice between Glendronach 12 and GlenAllachie 12, the proper reply is "Yes, please!" It's a genuine win-win." It's very generous of you to open the original Spice Tree, but, unless you have back up bottles, I'd save it for its story and historical value. Not that I'm not curious, but, as it is not really available when compared to the Macallans. I'd vote for the Macallan line up. Cheers Alan!

I agree... Spice Tree is inexpensive enough, I'd save that one for historical value and buy a fresh one to drink if I were in that position. (And I'm never the guy who advocates for collecting over opening...)

Congrats on the 1K subs, Alan! Well deserved! Great head to head with these two... I feel like my memory of GD12 is fading already, but I think I much preferred the GlenAllachie 12. Need to buy both again and compare. Both great bottles for the price. Cheers!

Great drams. Glad you took your time tasting and thinking through these. If I had them both open, I would have poured and sipped along. From memory I prefer GlenDronach, but memory is a poor mistress. Cheers!
Thank you for the head to head. Seeing that in my area, Chicago suburbs in the US, the Glenallachie is about $45 compared to $60 for the Glendronach, I'll go with the Glenallachie this time around. Looking forward to it! 🥃🥃

Congrats on the 1K Alan, really good comparison between these two benchmarks of what sherry matured whiskies can be. As for the livestream: put on your naughty boots and pop open that forbidden Spice Tree. Only had the pleasure to try the 'authorized one' and liked that one quite a bit. Like others said, those Macallans would make for a lovely blind tasting challenge on another video perhaps?

I still haven't bought the glendronach 12 or the glenallachie 12 yet I don't love heavily sherried whisky but I'm getting there slowly I really should get some to review on my channel. Great video again Alan. Congrats on 1k subs!!

Congrats on the 1K again Alan. What a pairing to play off against each other, but a fair scoring in my mind. Both great in their own way but slightly different. Not sure if it's just the length of time I have spent with GD12 over the newer GA12, but prob 'just' favour the GD, but a huge fan of both. Rachel doing great stuff at GD , and BenRiach etc post BW, keeping the quality and offering at a high standard..... all the better for us to have great stuff, reasonably priced out there to enjoy. Will think re Spice Tree or Mac (feel ill at the thought of you opening the early 'Editions' Mac if not already done 😁😁😁)

Congratulations on passing the 1K mark, Alan. It's great to see the channel grow. The GA12 is not available anywhere near me, but the GD is a staple. I've just finished the GD15. I'm a fan of Compass Box so I vote for the Spice Tree. Perhaps a side by side with the current version? Thanks as always my friend.

that Compass Box intrigues me more I have to admit. However Macallan editions comparison or even blind tasting could be an exceptional content there. Never had Glendronach 12 unfortunately but Glenallachie 12 is very tasty - first couple drams were disappointing but it just needed air. It isn't thick but there is a lot happening there, quite rich. That 1K subs looks good Alan hopefully it starts accelerating!
Congrats on hitting the 1k subs Alan! With regards your live stream I'd say go with the Spice tree. I take it that's the one they put the extra staves into the barrel for extra flavour/speedier maturation and got their knuckles rapped by the SWA?

Alan, Congrats on the 1,000+ subs. Both of these are two of my favorites. I guess I like the GD12 just a bit more because of the deeper flavors but there are days that I want the honey and fruit of the GA 12. That Compass Box sounds like a great one for a vid. CHEERS!!

Haven't tried Glenallechie yet, but i can say that Glendronach was a game-changer for me to expand my scotch horizons. Just picked up the 18 and am finishing the 15.

Both fantastic. Here in the UK these bottles are virtually the same price... Not to sure why there is such a price jump and can only presume its a global markets thing. Enjoyed them both.... Cheers for dropping by my friend...

Glenallachie 12 but bunny 12 cask strength is the best...
I prefer the GlenAllachie 12.
A shame Glendronach chill filter the 12 now.
Just compared both of these and the glendronach from end of 2020 isn't even close, glenallachie is more dynamic on the palate
Is it possible that you 2020 GD12 is one of the new chill filtered Glendronachs and your GA 12 is that one of the new darker Glenallachie both these drams have changed so much since I did my comparison.... Might be time to compare them again... Thanks for dropping in my friend...

Alan, I would pick the compass box. I just think that the Macallan series is worth opening considering the value of them now. Obviously should you have a lot more edt 1 tucked away, then go for it :)

Ah man, so jealous of that Spice Tree! I have quite a few Compass Box’s, but not that one.
As far as the showdown I have to go with the Glendronach. I just finished one very recently and have a Glenallachie 12 open right now so they’re fresh in my mind.
So I take it that you want me to open the spice tree over the macallan...
I hate to vote on such a rare bottle being opened 😬. I don’t know if that Spice Tree is suppose to be superb dram or not, it’s just rare, where as I know the Macallan will be excellent... Go Macallan. Then you’ll always have that Spice Tree to trade me someday 🤣
