Hey champ, good to see the old fisherman is back on deck. Scallops does indeed move. They can actually swim by flapping they shelly bits, although only for short distances. They are not fish though, but molluscs. Loved old Ben btw. I really wish they would model the full interior of the boats! I would just sit below deck and drink coffee all day then 👍😆
@@joshua_J no I'm pretty sure in the wiki in the game it says, in the dredging section for scallops, optimal speed 5-7 knots. You don't dredge for any other types of fish in this game, only scallops.
I’m a small scale scallop fisherman in England, I also actually spoke to the devs for weeks with loads of information on how it’s done irl, hence it’s pretty accurate. I’ll answer any questions:D
I have personally seen the highest tier scallop boat "viking power" being built in bayou la batre Alabama. Its a real boat and its first class. I work on a shrimp trawler and these types of fishing games are my favorite.
Scallops can "swim" but it depends on the species. Some use a "foot" like a clam or muscle does to move around the bottom, and some simply find a sturdy foundation as a baby and make a semi-permanent attachment to it. It's not like the calcium build up of an oyster or barnacle, but rather it's a protein filament that sort of solidifies around the bottom half of the shell and the rock it chose to make it's home. The ones that swim do so by opening and closing their shell which creates a jet of water expelled out near the hinge of the shell. They don't swim so much as they sort of throw themselves around in the water. The don't do it for very long and they don't cover much distance when they do. If you drag your trap where they are reported to be and come up empty, it's because another dredger beat you to the field. They aren't "fished out" but only those small enough to fit through the mesh of the trap remain. It'll take two to three years for them to grow to a keepable size again. The only part of the scallop we humans eat is the cylindrical, white muscle in the center that's used to open and close the shell, the rest of the animal is used as fish chum, fodder for fertilizer, and sometimes cat food. Because the adductor muscle is the prize and it's attached to both sides of the shell you can't just split open the scallop. You have to cut the muscle where it attaches to the top shell and then cut it away from the bottom shell. Two halves of a single scallop muscle is pretty worthless.
I just came back from a trip to Nova Scotia and had Digby Scallops. The closest I went to Yarmouth though was Bartlett Beach. I also saw these ships on the water
You dont play this game enough honestly drae. It's still fun to watch even if it's not a popular game for your channel. And i like it even more since you show (at least i think) more than anyone. You even show yourself doing the tutorial
Scallops are fucking delicious. Bacon wrapped, pan-seared, fried, there really isn’t any WRONG way to cook them. Definitely gonna look into this game now.
I love fishing but I have never done any off a boat. They look so real and so detailed. This game looks really chill and relaxing, do you have to get threw storms or anything scary?
I don't know if this works for everyone. But, I noticed if you put both nets down you always have problems catching anything. So I usually do one net. then when it is full I stop the boat. Bring the one up and at the same time send the next one down. Once it is down I start moving the boat. til that one is full and just repeat
Hey man just to let you know IRL if you found a spot with scallops the boat would be ran round the clock just filling the dredges and emptying them until the boat is full or the spot dried up
Yeah scallop fishing in real life is fun but dangerous we used to do it if your dredge gets hooked on the bottom and u try to power out of it you can berry the stern vary easily

Hey drae what genre of games are you going to play
Drae “yes”
So glad to see this game is back. Can’t wait to see how many scallops Drae catches
Ahh, the beautiful North Egglantic. Always good to be back.
Drae you are supposed to only be going 2knots to dredge for scallops. Give it a try
It did say so in the tutorial, but he just ignored it
2 knots to set gear but then "optimal dredging speed" is 5 to 7 knots it says in the Wiki.
@@tomwalker9497 I think you are referring to dredging for fish not the scallops he was after.
Well Tutorial says 2 is minimum and 5-7 knots is optimal so i set the Autopilot to 6 and mostly im good but i dont use this relic of a Boat.

This game should have storm seasons where everything sells for a lot but its super dangerous to fish
Yeah, if they ramp up the graphics to be even better with super realistic physics. It'd be even better

I think Drae mentioned the other videos so he can prove he doesn’t crash or hit shallow water often.

I know it's a year old post. But how do you figure out where to dredge? Do you just know the kinds of areas they like to settle in?
@@JohnnyTwos hi I’m Surprised to see someone else in the comments at this point
@Autobotjazz499 lol yeah recently started playing this game. Then I heard there's another one coming out maybe. Been on a simulator kick.
@@autobotjazz499I’ve been playing tons recently too! Just got into trawling today haha!
@@autobotjazz499 yeah...
Also if you haven't had any luck with 5 mins. You have to bring your nets up fully so they reset. They do get twisted after awhile
Drae I'm happy that you played this again because I started playing it and I watched all your videos once or twice and that's how good they are

You probably did better at scallop fishing than I did. That was 4 hours of my life I’m never seeing again. Nothing, not even an empty shell

Drae, you lured me in with your first fishing video, and now I'm hooked on them. ;p
Scallop fishing is kinda fun just started it now it does take a lot of drops of the net to fill old ben with 40k storage
I love old Ben that old ship. Netted me 600k in two trips of 20kg of scallops. One step closer to my first trawler
As Tony Beats would say, “Daaaa Drrrrrrredge”
I wonder if you can start beds where you can grow them

just found your channel... 2.5mil subs.. how did i miss you.
You should play Frostpunk 2 when it comes out!
Keep it up
idk ir im just lucky with dredging but when i put the nets down they instantly fill up sometimes without even moving the boat
The phrase that you said is familiar from the FC3.

When you buy the first boat it supposed to say to travel around 2-3 knots
Scallops: I hear a boat. Let's flap over to another grid square.
0:18 and you devastate seafloor anihilating whole ecosystems!
Hey drae did you know you can fast travel to the ports or to the points of interest?
Also love your vids
