Been playing this game and the previous and I share your pain for the crab boats a lot. That said I also grabbed a crab boat after your last video to give it a shot. Used the Coastern and I started Nov. 1 in game time. No tips available, which after watching this video leads me to believe that as the season goes on tips will be provided from the AI. Also crab prices were in the upper 20s at beginning of season compared to mid season where you were. Didn't fill the boat after 5hrs of play, but made half money back on boat, trawling is still king, but if ya want something to do to shake things up, not bad. also if you don't see crab on sonar don't set and set at least 100meters apart for mid level results.
J love how they give you the ability to spend $30 million on a crab boat that can carry 126 or so pots, and then put out a grand total of 126 ENTIRE CRABS IN THE OCEAN! lol
I would love a multiplayer so you have one person gutting, one person pulling, another putting them on ice. With the possibility of those people becoming their own captain with AI crew. Imagine a fleet of 4 trawlers or each person fishing different areas all going into the company account.
Never played it but i would think having a smaller amount of pots, set them all and reset them as you pick em up, and with a full crew. bit better flow that way. But yeah i dont think there is a boat that size without side props.
I think with crab fishing, you gotta watch, as they move much faster in whatever direction you see the tips you get... I think your just a little behind them, and when you do find the school; you should drop a few strips in that area

Okay so tip for crab fishing, based more on irl tactics, set shorter strings maybe 5 in a line, but run multiple short strings parrell to each other( kinda like this patern | | | | ) on the hot zones, think about the school blips on the sonar when your trolling, they way your fishing your are basically just running a line straight through the middle and not capitolizing on the sides of the zones.
also(and again this is based off irl stuff not game stuff) crabs tend to hang out in one spot longer on their migration routes, unlike the swimming fish, so maybe stick closer to the tip zone for more days,
I don't get why they allow you to have so many pots but if you drop them all you can't get them all up without over soaking them is there a way to drop all the pots and not have that happen and still get good fishing?

Ofcourse it's better in reverse, the propellers are at the back, it's the same thing with a car, steering in the front, makes it stear better driving forward, but almost insanely reverse if driving too fast 🤷

What would you recommend in the small to midsize crab boat range? I trawl a lot and wanted to change things up a bit.

Probably a bit late but you could set 10 pots then skip time 4 hours ahead after every 10th pot

Soak by time not by the color of the pots. It can be blue and not have been out long enough to catch anything.
Does the depth matter? It seems like in the dark blue areas of the map there were no crabs and in the light blue areas there were lots
crab fish gets a lot faster set and picking up pots with a trained crew.

The reason your not hitting the pots is you haven't got enough speed. The tide is pushing you 2knts your only doing 3knts increase your speed

I am a actual fisher and do lobster and crab pots to and I can tell the game is very true to the real thing you hardly ever have anything I the pots
I think the boat is meant to be used in deeper waters where the population could be higher (I'm just guessing not sure if that is how it works)
