We can already use a mouse on the Switch (for like one game), but this new functionality improves the likelihood that more games will support mice to begin with. That's what's really cool about this. And I bet we'll be able to substitute the Joycon with a regular mouse.
Yep ^ ^ I actually really like the idea. 💯 I just love it that it was even a little unexpected but actually a neat concept at the same time that with refinement or bigger Success can actually catch on to become a standard feature.
The Steam Controller uses Bluetooth which totally replaces the need for desktop mouse. Steam Controller is more accurate and easier to use than desktop mouse. (many are now waiting for Steam Controller 2) It looks like optical beam is for, in the air mouse, similar to light Pen, or light Gun. (used as Wii remote motion pointer) Depending on design could project images on a surface or in the air.
Exactly. I can’t imagine it’s a coincidence these two seemingly random rumors match so well! Also remember Nintendo specifically said they wanted to come up with a different way to control games that anyone could understand.
Nintendo Life also suggested the strap accessory could reflect the optical sensor upwards, so the controller would have Wii Pointer functionality as well, similar to how smart tvs use the optical sensor for cursor.
I remember someone somewhere said that Nintendo adding that mouse mode seems like a preventive way of keeping the rise of handheld PCs in check, makes a lot of sense, sure Deck and etc. won't dethrone Nintendo's place but better safe than sorry, that way Nintendo can keep their jack of all trades spot.
It was recently rumored that there had been a lot of interest in the Switch 2 from AAA developers at Winter CES. I could see that if this mouse rumor is true, since it'd make porting titles from the PC much easier
@Whattheflip64 No, there's a difference to what you typed. If you're gonna needlessly be a sore thumb on a fun blog, at least be particular in your weird negativity.
@@netweed09 “big” is a subjective term. When these switch 2 TH-camrs use subjective terms, the video always becomes clickbait. I have a few issues with the mouse idea. 1. It's not ergonomic enough to use without a dedicated accessory, health and safety issue with both carpal tunnel and laser exposure 2. If an accessory is needed, you could just use a mouse (rumble? more buttons? not sold on that being promoted elegantly) 3. It's a niche use case for the way most people play the Switch, especially if you can't use it safely without a dedicated accessory This isn't a new feature in my view, just redirects so as to function also as an IR pointer so all games can reach potential. Skyward Sword is a prime example. However, I think there is something entirely left field that we're missing, but because of the laser exposure it's gotta involve at least a wrist strap or another accessory altogether if the wrist strap only directs the IR forward/up Lastly, to me those are clearly magnets at the top and bottom of the rail - you can see the top one reflects. I doubt the buttons are magnets as was claimed. Electro magnetic connector in the centre, standard magnets top and bottom.
Omg with that Mouse-Con i can imagine games like Borderlands, Civilization 5 , age of empire, COD MW will be such a joy! Even better u can paint now. Okami 2 will be a masterpiece in Switch 2
I hope the launch title isn't legends ZA because pkmn is my favourite series after GTA and I already know scalpers are going to make it hard to get a switch 2 fairly for quite some time.
digital foundry said Switch 2 specs won't be on ps4pro level yet all these Nintendo "fans" are in copium mode and still overhyping the system. It's kinda pathetic tbh
Ps4 pro would be too much imo. I’m hoping for less power. Especially if it means switch 2 is cheaper. Also see what’s happening with Sony and Microsoft? They can’t keep up with development costs. I’d rather have exclusive software in the first four years of a console
@56ty_ I dunno about that cos last i see ps5 is still selling so well. Third party devs still pouring so many AAA games for ps not Nintendo. Also i have 0 crap about xbox microsoft is trillion dollar company they dont care about xbox losing money or not
i’m curious if they will be selling some sort of “mouse” accessory to attach the joycon to. For some reason I’m having a hard time picturing people using the mouse functionality of a joycon just on its own. But if you could just attach a joycon to the side of a “mouse” accessory, I can absolutely get behind that
a right-side mouse joy con + the regular left-side one could be a pretty good FPS control scheme i'd think? mouse doing the normal mouse things a PC would do and left-side joy con for the WASD and such done with the other stick plus buttons. could be a good middle ground between PC and console control schemes. like if i was limited to normal console controls and playing someone on a Switch that has a mouse... i'd be concerned. also makes those CoD rumors/announcements make a lot more sense.
This idea Joy-Cons will be used as desktop mouse using optical light, by its design suggests totally different function. It looks like optical beam is for, in the air mouse, similar to light Pen, or light Gun. (used as Wii remote motion pointer and other functions) Joy-Cons used with Bluetooth using analog sticks, or Joy-Cons put into accessory controller with Steam Deck style touch-pads would give better mouse control. The Optical beam could also work as real time analog non line of sight pointer, in 3D space. Using Gyro sensor, Bluetooth, Optical beam, all working at the same time. Also extra USB-C can be for direct USB-C to HDMI cable without Docking Station. (To charge and use larger display at the same time. When traveling for example)
I suggest Andre to watch the digital foundry take on the motherboard and a more realistic opinion on the Switch 2's capabilities. They talk about the charger etc. ultimately we wont know for sure till they show it.
The sticks will be Hall effect which is about as good as you can possibly get. All joysticks drift over time, the issue with the joycon was just how soon they began to drift.
If Nintendo wants to double battery life (16 to 25 hours) then they should get rid of the goofy screen and replace it with a virtual retinal display (VRD.) A VRD system projects the game visuals directly onto the player's retinas. The resulting virtual image appears to float out in front of the user. Nintendo can program the virtual display image to be affixed to the center handheld "slate" area, which in turn could function as a touch interface. Power consumption for traditional screens is measured in Watts, while VRDs are measured in milliwatts or nanowatts. Also, VRDs create brighter images, natural 3D, and glare is no longer an issue. Because the image is rasterized directly on the retina, there is no intermediary screen. Hence, the user has full privacy as well as having no eye fatigue from constantly having a screen near one's face. So, why don't we have VRD devices everywhere? It's too disruptive of a tech. We've really planted our flag in screens as our primary display technology, especially over the last 15+ years with the advent of smart phones. Nevertheless, there have been companies working on VRD tech. Japanese company TDK along with QD Laser are collaborating on a VRD device. It is really only a matter of time before VRDs become the dominant display technology. Why should Nintendo push this budding display technology? Besides the obvious reasons listed above, Nintendo being a major company can really boost this tech in a way that is truly needed right now. No other big gaming or tech company is brave enough to ruffle the feathers of screen manufacturers. Nintendo has the creativity, the resources and the gusto.
Moreover, with the Switch line of consoles, Nintendo is moving toward gaming ubiquity. That is to say, they want us to have a common experience between the play at home and the play on the go. A VRD-equipped device is a Revolutionary step in the same direction. The first version doesn't need to replace your TV. It just needs to free up the handheld portion and maybe add some visual enhancements to the TV.
Kind of makes sense. Steam deck is their competition now, so this could allow Nintendo to court more 3rd party developers that would otherwise mainly just release on steam/pc (like strategy devs)
Everytime someone talks about the Switch 2 Nintendo delays the reveal by a day.

Slightly worse than the battery life of the OG release Switch or the later releases?
So is C button for Cursor?
