I love them both. But Breath of the Wild has been a new and incredible experience that hit me very hard. I mean, I spent 800 hours in the game and I never got tired, that says it all.

The Leaderboard wow you guys actually replied I feel honored and I have to admit as much as I love the classic zelda dungeons and the story BOTW really hit me with the dlc and I'm not afraid to admit tears when I walked back into my house and saw the painting in his room it was very sad

"The Egyptian inspired Spirit temple" WHAT?
What is Egyptian about the spirit temple? It is clearly meant to be middle eastern.
The whole Gerudo race looks somewhat Persian and that is also represented in the overall feel of that area.
They even removed the old Gerudo symbol (on those pushable blocks and the Mirror Shield) because it looked alot like an islamic symbol.
Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time were both my most favorites!
I'll always prefer Ocarina over Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild is fun and in modern day terms a better video game, but Ocarina of Time set the standards for present day video games. It's filled with nostalgia and characters whose legacy still echo through Hyrule in Breath of the Wild. There are references all over breath of the Wild. which refer back to Ocarina. Ocarina of time was an amazing game. I don't think these games were meant to be compared. Breath of the Wild is fun and action packed. Ocarina holds a tender place in my heart and will always remain my favorite. Thank you to anyone who is reading. My comments don't usually get likes. But I mean to show that people will have opinions. If you like Ocarina better, that's ok! If you like Breath of the Wild better, that's okay! At the end of the day it's still Zelda, an amazing franchise overall. We should't get into petty arguments over which game was better, and learn to understand that they all shine in their own ways.

I don't like Ocarina of time only because nostalgia, this is bullshit. Give Ocarina of time modern graphic and I will play it 1000 times again.
That was a fantastic video, where every statement compartmentalized my own sentiments about the comparative qualities of these two incredible games. Many thoughtful contrasts and insightful comparisons, echoing the same internal dialogue I've faced when trying to figure out how OoT stacks up against BoTW in my all-time favorite games list. Well done. This channel would fare well to have more content like this.

I personally feel BoTW is the better game than OoT because it took more risk while OoT copied the established formula given to it by a ALTTP, its only real difference from ALTTP is the fact that its 3d and that has more to do with the power of the N64 than the game itself
Dude are you crazy? OoT is the most innovative zelda game of all time, it created the foundation for all 3d action adventure games. Without ocarina, there is no botw. Botw just took an already existing formula and made it worse imo.

Ocarina of time was the first Zelda I played and what got me into the Zelda franchise botw I feel brought a new experience but relighting that feeling of playing ocarina of time in my childhood

That's funny because I've always thought Zelda's voice acting was bad-
Open world, non-linear exploration-based gameplay and full dungeons integrated into the environment would make for an incredible experience. Instead of spirit orbs, just put heart pieces and stamina upgrade chunks scattered throughout the world similar to the korok seeds.

A true saiyan always sprinkles when he tinkles. Ok. But,make them bigger. And not short like Ocarina of Time. I was NEVER a fan of that.

For BotW, I was hoping for each shrine to have a unique mini-boss and maybe a reskined item as a reward. I was most disappointed by there only being 4 or 5 real dungeons. What if instead of dungeons, there was themed portions of the map where you still have to explore, but taking out every special themed shrine in that area spawns an awesome boss fight that gives you something awesome when completed.
Obviously Breath of the Wild stands out more today, but I personally prefer Ocarina of Time, it's far from being my favorite game, but I didn't connect pe very well with BOW (I liked it, but it's not among my favorite games).
Great movie, but do just want to point out a lore mistake: ganon doesn't convince the leaders to open the temple of time, he goes in after link does.

I never finished Ocarina of Time, not because I didn’t like it, but life happens and it’s hard to find time to sit down and play. I’m really hoping that all Zelda titles because available in some way on the Switch since I can just squeeze playing that inbetween practically anything.

The Leaderboard try making Pokémon theories
Windwaker didn't follow Ocarina, that was Majora's Mask.
The reason I prefer ocarina of time was because of the storyline and sounds, The Hero of time link always felt like the main link in the whole franchise despite not being the first link but he was responsible for the timeline split, not to mention he had the saddest darkest storyline then any other zelda game in the whole series. I also the sprites graphic designs, just felt very simple but fun to play and the simple computerised sample soundfonts used in the game which made the songs in OoT so iconic and catchy which sounded nicer then the real orchestral osts used in other zelda games. Lastly they had iconic voice actors used for Link and Ganondolf. I mean I like breath of the wild too but I just feel most people choose it only cuz of the graphic..
I just need Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword on the Switch and I’ll be happy
Breath of the wild is fun, but it lacks depth. Ocarina of time and Majora's mask is the best. If breath of the wild had a better story and actual dungeons I'd prolly have a different opinion.

OoT will always be my favorite 3D Zelda game. Breath of the Wild is great, but not as a Zelda game. It took away too much of what makes a Zelda game, A ZELDA GAME. Still amazing open world game, but I would have preferred it as a brand new franchise. A Zelda game without dungeons just isn't Zelda to me.
It’s supposed to be like the first Zelda game which was all about exploration
Speaking towards what I would like to see in the next game; it would be really cool to see Shiek make a comeback. Perhaps have her as like a companion or even another playable character which you could switch between link and maybe even other characters much like the way you could in Hyrule Warriors. Who knows, with the way Nintendo changed the formula for BOTW, it’s exciting to think about what we could be in for in the next game.
I like both games. Both games are good in my opinion they are just different ...
I like OoT more than BotW because of the soundtrack, the dungeons and the story. BotW is also very good but it is in my top list behind most 3D Zeldas.

I've been seeing a little bit of a rifts lately in the Zelda community with this game or at least that is my impression with some people. I think the solution is what a commenter said about having the open world, freedom, and physics of Botw combined with deeper story and traditional dungeons of Oot. What I'm trying to drive in by reiterating his statement is that whereas" ocarina" was a pioneer to innovation at its time so is "breath" in the present. Solution would be to "marry" the two styles together. However, they should not do too much "copy/paste". I don't want to come off as bashing Twilight Princess because it's still a great game, but I believe that game had the flaw of borrowing too much from Majoras Mask and Ocarina of Time especially. It suffers because TP at the time of development was trying to appease the backlash of the Windwaker and appease the nostalgia of Ocarina of Time.
Unfortunately, I will admit there were times TP just felt too familiar and it bothered me because I played Ocarina beforehand. The Forest Fire and Water Temple ideas is a gripe to name, same with Hyrule Field having to have a huge and grand music similar to Ocarina. My biggest gripe was the big copout/switch-out with Zant, an intriguing character, for Ganondorf. By doing too much copy/paste I think TP suffered in these areas especially with a bland Princess Zelda in this title and not really any player connection to Ganondorf since he was a swap out.
But returning from my somewhat related tangent, I want Anouma to do what he's doing now with philosophy: always challenging the "Zelda traditions". Literally OoT at its time and now Botw were breaths of fresh air and retain a distinguishable identity. They both changed and challenged Zelda's formula, but did not strip the Zelda series' identity to a point of being unrecognizable. "Marrying" the old and the new as well as challenging Zelda traditions will probably be quite the task for Nintendo,, but knowing them, they will hit it out of the park with their amount of polish and dedication to their games.
OoT’s plot elements, music, memorable characters, and bosses really defined the Franchise but BotW in these areas missed the mark.
This doesn’t mean I didn’t spend a hundred hours in BotW in a state of bliss, but it is missing a bit of LoZ charm.

*For the people saying Ocarina of Time it's not the best game of all time anymore* because it is old and games have improved since then, below I kinda explain why it still is for most people and why it ranks #1 on most top 10 lists.
It's considered to be the greatest game of all time considering what it did during it's time, it's unfair to compare 20 year old games with games from last year. Remember how the guys who first flew on a plane became famous and are now in the hall of fame? Well now everyone can fly on a plane thanks to them and our advances in technology but we don't get any sort of praise. When you look at things like that, you got to get in the mindset of the time the game came out.
In reality, absolutely no game can really be the greatest game of all time. And while different games excel at different things and that there's just no way to factually decide which game is the best of all when we put them together, we all have different tastes after all. This is all just for fun and to set a good standard, that's the point of top 10 lists and things like that.
If Ocarina of Time released today, I 100% guarantee you that it would NOT play the same way, it would most likely mechanically play like Breath of the Wild but with Ocarina's story and dungeons. Absolutely everyone has their personal favorite games, my personal favorite game of all time is Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage btw lol It's just that we all (most at least) place Ocarina of Time as the common ground, that or Super Mario 64.

You're sounding like your typical Ocarina of Time hater. You like what you like it's alright, I was just trying to explain my point of view on why that particular game is treated the way it is.
Love the video, just wanna nitpick that Zelda was not captured by Ganon in BOTW, she's the one imprisoning him to the castle for the last 100 years. They're locked in a 1-to-1 battle for a century until Zelda called to awaken Link, as she felt her powers weakening and needed backup. The Malice around Hyrule is some of Ganon's power seeping out.
Super nitpicky, but just wanted to clarify how badass Zelda is in BOTW.
As much as I've enjoyed the Zelda series, Breath of the Wild blows the other games out of the water.

I tried getting into BoTW, but only lasted 10 hours. I see why a lot of people love it, but I jus couldn’t get into it. I do want to beat A ZELDA game at some point in my life, so I think I’ll try with OoT on NSO.
I would have loved to see Sheik return in BotW, a more clumsy, but still rogue version, as a sort of escape for a frustrated Zelda. Maybe if there’s a sequel...

The impact OoT had on Zelda is something that will never be seen again, a Masterpiece like no other. Botw is an excellent game, but OoT is just too big to compare against.
Have to disagree on the creation of memorable charaters for botw. In that department Oot blows it out the water, hell even majoria's mask does. The only and i do mean only thing that Botw has over Oot is Graphics.

I though Revali was hands-down the best English voice actor, and Zelda was hands-down the cheesiest. :P
Botw was huge sure but I feel like their should've been more out there to find while exploring and the shrines felt too easy IMO.

@theleaderboard Whenever you make a Nintendo video make a second one on the same topic with darrian complaining about Nintendo and comparing everything Nintendo has done to horizon zero dawn (ie aloy's hair is better than link's) and by the end of the video darrian says "I don't hate Nintendo I just have a strong opinion about them." So darrian if you are out there and want to make yourself famous (or infamous) feel free to try this out. Anything for the views I'm I right? ;)
