Brian, this my friend is an OUTSTANDING video, very thorough explanation of what has been done and what will be done and please leave the cover stock it looks beautiful
Option 2 without a doubt , Aesthetically geometrically correct. As far as I’m concerned the Sl55 are the best bang for the buck, unbelievable Beautiful timeless vehicle’s and the work you do on them is so impressive, wonderful video it’s a pleasure to watch you work. . Steve
I know this is a pretty old vid, but just came across it. Looks great. One thing I've been thinking about is using the bonnet/hood vents as intakes! Is it possible, I'd be worried about water/rain if it was done. What's your thoughts
Based from what I've done, the most efficient way to get the best boost from the compressor is to keep its air box (at the bottom in the engine valley) as "cool" as possible. Multiples strong accelerations increase the heat dramatically in the valley, then that heat goes directly to the airbag, thus increase temperature of the compressed air going into the engine's intake. Solution is to remove the compressor and wrap its air box with a heat shield like the one on exhaust lines. I found that solution to be the easiest to do trying to keep the engine as stock. I often read about psi, but temperature is equally important, especially if you live in hight temperature conditions.
Fn Outstanding Brian. new to your channel and I should say its awesome!!! I have a SL500 and currently working on a patent pending power solutions for the r230 folks. I am asking if you can assist with intake piping front mount as you installed on the 55. I am also looking for fuel injectors if you have any available for a small fee. lol write back; as I await your conversation...
Any thoughts on adding a hood scoop and filter setup above the intake, similar to say a Subaru? instead of the dual pipes it would be similar to a ram injection..
Who did you get to paint the headlight lens? I think that looks great and might copy you. Also like the intake. Have you found lens replacements out there for the sl like they have for the E class?
Skid Williams I used a company by the name of Lightwerkz based out of NJ. Check the link in my description for a in-depth video on my actual lights from the company. Unfortunately I've never seen replacement lenses for the R230. Depo is the company that makes the E lenses but they don't make them for the SL.
Brian, I am really looking forward to see the Kooks cats and Mid length Kleeman headers installed pictures or video, I plan on doing similar setup later this summer, but I want to confirm that these can go in while keeping CEL off, and allow all O2/cat/O2 heating functionality of the car to pass MA emission Naturally, if you pre make and sell these, please PM me, I am willing to pay for parts and labor, rather than myself reinventing the wheel with welding this setup
Bayhas Kana Sounds good! I personally put around 800 miles on the black 03 SL55 from the previous videos that had the same headers/cats on it. I did not get any CEL nor did I have to manually turn off the O2's. Those Kooks cats are fantastic and worth every penny if you need to pass inspection/emission as they're the only ones on the market that will allow you to do so.
Skid Williams Unfortunately the SL doesn't have as much aftermarket support as the E/CLS. The only long tube headers available for the SL55 are from a company called MBH and they retail for around $3,000. You can get a complete set of LT's with x-pipe for the E/CLS for around $600.
What are the specs on both of your Mercedes? 0-60, whp, etc. I really like those 03's considering the power they make for the money, And from what Ive taken from your videos they don't look too expensive to build. I watch your videos to gain some knowledge from them, i appreciate your content lots man!
Good evening I was wondering if is it possible to get with you I have a SL55 AMG I would like to have you work on I was wondering is it a list I need to get on can we talk and find out what I need to do
You remove the old sealant bead when it is still warm from heating. Once you're ready to reassemble, you use a new roll/bead of black headlight butyl sealant and clamp the headlight together.
@@FisherFASTCan you please give a link for a lens for sl55. What state are you in? How much would you charge for lens swap to bump up the light flow in headlights?
Hi Brian, do you have to remove the bumper to remove the headlights ? Did the Lighting company painted the housing when replacing the lenses ? I really want to do this mod !!
Awesome video. I would like to discuss you working on my mercedes sl.. .. in particular an engine swap. I currently have m113 and would like to swap to an m113k. .i am new jersey and can make it out to you anytime thats convient for you. Thank you in advance.
Mr Sanchez805 I had positive results in my short time with testing the product. I personally saw around a 2 psi recovery in boost and was most apparent during the middle of the RPM band. I no longer have the car to comment on long term durability, however I see no reason as to why it would not hold up. Overall, it was an inexpensive way to recover lost boost due to slip and is worth a shot if you feel that you're experiencing belt slip with a smaller pulley.
the music under your talking was so bad, after 3 min. had to turn you off. i am still interested in your work, that is the reason why i wanted to tell you feedback. Please no creepy loud music under your valuable talking....

Much appreciated Jeffrey and thanks for the support!
Would you be willing to duplicate the intake system and if so, for how much? I agree about the current options out there.

As a SL55 owner this is an excellent video and I'd love to see more! Keep up the good work Brian!
Nate Herc Thanks for the positive feedback Nate!
Definitely have to keep posting more
Really love your work. Thanks for taking the time to make videos! I think you should go for option 2 with the pulley/belt cover.
Russ T My pleasure Russ, thanks for watching!
I would love that cold air intake setup on my sl 500..
Anthony Rios , did he talk about that? Did he modify the bumper to make intercooler fit?
I know this is a pretty old vid, but just came across it. Looks great.

Option two with only middle coverage
Option 2 on the pulley cover.
Do you sell parts and/or performance parts kits?
What company are the air filters from and the size please as I am am doing the same set up on my 2003 E55 AMG Thank you Love all your videos 💪
I did number 2 on my front cover. Other then that where did you get the same intake pipe from? Needwings price is outrageous for couple aluminum pipes
Hi Brain just watched the video and is excellent wear did you get the parts for the intake system from many thanks Andy
Hi which green model and pre filter sock did you use. I am keen on using the the same setup.
Where can this set up be purchased at?? Great video
Any thoughts on adding a hood scoop and filter setup above the intake, similar to say a Subaru? instead of the dual pipes it would be similar to a ram injection..
Hello !! how did you find the silicone T before the throttle boby please
Best regards ALEX
I have the same SL55AMG and would like to change/paint my Headlights Black. Can you please tell me how to start that I don’t make something wrong
Option #1

option 2... and
3.. you can always take it off.. Hell it looks great off..
Would the exhaust system fit an 03 SL 500? Can you suggest other 03 SL mods.
Would there be any issues driving in the rain with this intake setup? Looks like the filters would get quite wet.

Option 2
Option 1 is my choice

How did you assembled headlights back together? Some plastic glue only?
You remove the old sealant bead when it is still warm from heating. Once you're ready to reassemble, you use a new roll/bead of black headlight butyl sealant and clamp the headlight together.

It seems like you really like the '03s!
Shane Giumarello Best bang for the buck since there weren't really any significant changes throughout the model years.
I wont get a 03 because of needing the key card
The key card is the best part. Stick it in my wallet to make the car truly keyless
Hi Brian, do you have to remove the bumper to remove the headlights ?
Did the Lighting company painted the housing when replacing the lenses ?
I really want to do this mod !!
U got to remove the bumper to get the lights out player

What’s up with the pulley coating from the previous video ?
