    Good video. Had a setup like that for years. One thing I would add is a passive cooling pad for the laptop as with the lid closed it helps the cooling.

    Great video. Inspired me to hook up my work laptop to my big private PC with a large monitor with a kvm switch. Now I need to go further and hook up a dock to the laptop just to to avoid having to inset power, hdmi an USB cables every time!

    Just add a wireless mouse and keyboard and monitor and there should be a button that You can use to switch from the laptops lid to the montor and You have yourself a Desktop computer. i did that for years

    Dale didn't the laptop have an hdmi port so you could go from laptop to monitor and skip the dock?

    If my laptop has HDMI out and enough USB ports to support keyboard/mouse, why would I want the docking port?

    • @CadillacComputerCenter
      @CadillacComputerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Well, this method gives you the freedom to easily take your laptop with you, limiting all the devices being plugged into it. But, yes, you can do it that way too.

    Does using a docking station put less stress on the laptop vs just plugging laptop directly into monitor with hdmi cable?

    If I take the laptop apart, can I shove the motherboard into a tower? When I'm out and about I just use a Chromebook. So I don't need the laptop. The Crome works just fine. It's easier to clean a tower than a laptop. It takes forever for disassembly and reassembly. Take care.

      Hey, yes a few. But I'm letting everyone know what's going on. Until we know for sure what Microsoft is going to do with the hardware requirements, I'm making sure my customers know what I know.

    I used hdmi to hook my laptop to my TV and put it on the setting to have separate screens. I can press a button to turn the light of my laptop screen off.
    But
    I have an old dell desktop and would like to know if I can use it with my laptop.

    If you're using a laptop with high specs, don't do this. For cooling you should use the laptop with the screen open.
