    That's a pretty nice outcome!👌
Tip for the day: always sand wood in the direction of the grain. That way you won't have any scratches on the wood and you have less chance of chipping bits of of the edges

I think a really useful tool to have for these restoration projects is a nail filing kit. They are almost like a small hand drill with several different heads for sanding and buffing and such. But because they are so small they are great for the little nooks and crannies. Great job on the knife

You should get sanding paper for metal to use on that brass, also metal polishing compound. You can use them with your Dremel buffer heads. Harbor Freight has the smaller sticks that are affordable.
I love Harbor Freight if you can't tell, it's my favorite place to shop for Dremel accessories and small specialty tools. If you don't have Harbor Freight where you are then the flea market is always my 2nd choice. Tung or linseed oil work great on the handle.
I just found your 2nd channel connected to the magnet channel. Have a good time restoring your finds.

If you have something that’s severely rusted it’s nice to have a wire brush drill bit if you have a drill. Rust comes off like a charm. Also the negative (-) is supposed to go the knife and the positive (+) to your rebar/ anode during electrolysis. Harbor freight has affordable hand and orbital sanders too so you don’t have to use so much elbow grease when sanding. I’ve gotten into restoration recently as well, gotta love the grind!

  • @scottward8446

One thing to keep in mind on Electrolytic rust removal is that if you do it if the item is chrome plated it will cause the chrome to release. I found that out once cleaning it. Although this has been in the water too long to help I found a easy way to clean wood. I restore old tube radios and before I refinish one sometimes I will use gojo hand cleaner without any grit in it to clean the wood. The grit will scratch the item if you use it. It will get the biggest part of the dirt if not all of it off. The best way I have found to clean something. I then use Johnsons furniture paste wax on it. Many times it makes the finish good enough to not refinish it.

Using a much finer grit sandpaper or even a fine steel wool wouldn't produce such deep gouges in the metal and wood. Watching that rough paper going in circles against the grain and over the brass was cringe-inducing. While I can appreciate wanting to leave some of the distressed patina on the knife to reflect its watery history of damage, introducing *new* damage creates a temporal mixed media of destruction of lower aesthetic value (imo) within a purported restoration. Although, one could address that criticism by titling the piece "Amateur Restoration"... in which case, it was executed perfectly!
