It's so strange that CW left music right when the internet was just starting to gain speed. I remember it well. They had a website and a streamable concert for like one night on the site. Soon after they were gone, like they never happened. I miss those days. Crisp autumn nights in my room with tea literally shivering at these songs, this one in particular. I would nest to these albums. Such a great and highly original band. Heartbreaking music, interesting mix of rock, fusion and punk/hardcore drumming with elements of jazz..varied musicians. There was a real aura about their songwriting and tonality of their instruments that transcended even the most experimental indie artists. Rob's voice, especially when triple tracked with harmonies was enchanting/spellbinding. One of those bands that just hits you over the head and makes you take notice, if you're lucky. You could never mistake Rob's voice for anyone else's.
So true! I stumbled across CW by accident one day at the record store. I would just pick random CDs to listen to in their listening station, and Adam and Eve just happened to be one I picked. I was hooked from that moment forward. This was, of course, before I was aware of their older stuff (even Black Metallic). I wish they had kept on going, but also I am grateful for having had a chance to experience them, if not live.
Oh my God! Thank you for writing your comment with such extreme precision of truth! I've loved them from the get-go and was looking enough to see Rob in his solo album acoustic tour in San Diego. I brought my little analog Holga plastic camera and some portraits of him including a selfie! He's just an incredible human being and the band with the way they play is just beyond description. And to think what Rob is doing now with his Porsche project and Singer vehicles… And whoever he married is one lucky woman!
Have been looking for this for sooo long... I heard it only once on the italian MTV many years ago and never again... Today I'm a bit sad and was losing time on TH-cam and... I found it. I've a weird feeling right now. Thank you for posting this video.
Catherine Wheel is another one of those bands that the music industry felt they could never make money off of. Real music lovers know otherwise. Catherine Wheel should have conquered MTV and America. Tragic really. "Heal" is an anthem. Wish I was in the music industry.
You look like you did at school more on this video than any.School bus every day, card nights and a really nice person -still can't believe how you hid your talent from many of us.You really are brilliant Rob.
lewisslade He was quite quiet but was really a nice friend. He had great party's too! ! There wasn't anything to Not like Rob for --and I'm not just saying that coz of his talent. He had ALOT more longer hair -but that was the fashion then!(:
Have you kept in touch with him? Now we have facebook and all that jazz? I've talked with his Wife a few times via that medium, but he is mega busy with cars and a child now, and believe it or not, doesn't actually own much Catherine Wheel material! Crazy.
Medium?I haven't seen Rob since I was 17 and I moved and lost touch with loads but we have a private school site and Rob didn't come on. In fact it was some boy from school who told me about Rob via the school site tho I had heard and I wasn't able to go on line etc. What do you mean Medium? Not what I think I am hoping?
Catherine Wheel are my fave band of all time, miss them soooo much, wish they had the fame and fortune they so rightly deserved. They influenced so many bands. Saw them live and they sounded as perfect as their albums. Pure talent, never to be repeated. Thanks guys, you really rocked!! Still listen to you often. Namaste! xxx
Chrome is my favourite CW album by a long way, but this song... goosebumps every time I hear it. An amazing video, Rob Dickinson has so much presence, almost otherworldly. Best band I never saw live : (
i was lucky enough to be at Rob's gig at the borderline some years ago his music has been the melody i have lived my life to for many years , timeless soulful and never fails to move me
@jerryfalwellsociety I know! It's crazy, I remember driving into Oxford city centre to get this the day it came out. I only just passed my test but I was legal and had just one thing on my mind, the Wheel!
i don't know the intended interpertation of this song but to me when i hear it i think of solitude (per the title) and silence its a bittersweet letting go to me and it makes me remember my past when i didn't speak for two years. this song is simply beautiful
There was somethin gposted about this a while back on Rob's (no longer there) website. I'm sure I said it for my CW site, i'll have to have a dig around, LewX
@lewisslade Haha. I was in my final year of Uni at Bristol. Having grown up in Lowestoft I'd known of CW since the beginning. Amazing memories - amazing album.
So how long are Catherine Wheel going to stay "parked" for anyways? :-P Hope they some day decide it's time to put some new material together, it would mean a lot to the fans. Rob, Neil, Brian, Dave, we miss you!
Desperately missed. This record should have had massive success to match its ambition. For my money, Adam & Eve is a better record than OK Computer - which stole its thunder in 1997. It seemed like there wasn't room for both.
I agree, this had much more real emotions expressed. I'd rather hear about someone's experience trying to deal with emotions, and maybe failing at it than an album of disengagement. "Try, don't die, pull your life together.." - Catherine Wheel (this song)
I stumbled on it the other day... its Capo 2, then play G, G/F#, e for the verse... pre-chorus is C and then A-... chorus is.. I'm kind lost there actually, but I think its something like G, G/F#, D, e, C, A-... if I'm wrong feel free to degrade me here on TH-cam that's what its for sometimes.. :D
Gail Sandison This is after my schooldays, god I feel old, but even if it was hair length was part of the uniform code and so wouldn't be able to get in my eyes. :-D
Gail Sandison Well I was in my 20s when this was released at which point my hair was definatley long enough to be in my eyes. I am 6ft tall and back then it was down to my waist and it was the envy of quite a few women I knew back then too. :-D Adam And Eve is what got me into them. Shame they had to split.
One of the most underrated bands, Adam and Eve is an incredible album
I don't get why you can't find it anywhere and it has almost no following. It was genius.
Agreed- this man is genius. AND he created Singer Porsche on top of this talent?!!!
Yes, and the only one of their albums not available on streaming services! It's a travesty.
Personally, I only really bothered with "Ferment" and "Chrome" (the latter an absolute classic). But this song is lovely.
@@SlackerInc1 you can buy it online for next to nothing. CD is better sound quality anyway

I saw them live in London late 90s. I totally agree. So underrated.

if i could only pick one band for the rest of my life, it would be CW...i wish they knew how much they are truly loved
Oh hunny they know because after all these years we still look for them - truly a loved band
Couldn’t agree more!
🙌🏻❤️🙌🏻❤️🙌🏻❤️🙌🏻
"Adam and Eve" features most excellent songwriting.
Sometimes I wonder if they truly know how much they are loved and remembered
Catherine Wheel has and always will be the soundtrack of/to my life.
Great music.

How old are you now

This is one of my favorite songs. Rob Dickinson has a beautiful soul. Inside and out Rob is Amazing and Gorgeous. I can play this song forever.
apparently so simple, if you go in deep it has so many structure elegant solutions, a great songwriter
You look like you did at school more on this video than any.School bus every day, card nights and a really nice person -still can't believe how you hid your talent from many of us.You really are brilliant Rob.
He IS brilliant! Must have been kool going to School with him.

I heard something about Catherine Wheel trouble. And working with cars now?
Absolutely fantastic song & video - brings back LOADS of memories .
I've thrown some of my favorite songs my dad's way at times to see if he'd like any of them. So far, this is one of the few that stuck.
My dad is more of a classic rocker and huge Moody Blues fan, but I pointed him toward this song and he loved it!
Beautiful

absolute masterpiece
That voice, the music, and that handsome man!!! *sigh*
Love the strumming
i was lucky enough to be at Rob's gig at the borderline some years ago his music has been the melody i have lived my life to for many years , timeless soulful and never fails to move me
love this band.
Really great song by a really great band. Perfect for a cold December day! Thanks for posting.
This album was incredible.

What a great band :-) thank you for sharing!
@jerryfalwellsociety I know! It's crazy, I remember driving into Oxford city centre to get this the day it came out. I only just passed my test but I was legal and had just one thing on my mind, the Wheel!
More. Get back now.
i don't know the intended interpertation of this song but to me when i hear it i think of solitude (per the title) and silence its a bittersweet letting go to me and it makes me remember my past when i didn't speak for two years. this song is simply beautiful
Forever & ever... again & again... 🥀💕
BEYOND GORGEOUS
Best. Song. Ever. Thanks for putting it up on youtube Lewis. :-)
3:26 is where the magic happens
you should be proud. they were a great band. so is that your heartbeat heard on the begining of this song.
It's from the ultrasound of the drummer Neil's baby. 💜
Love the song!
Great!
Great song from a great album
So underrated, so great
There was somethin gposted about this a while back on Rob's (no longer there) website. I'm sure I said it for my CW site, i'll have to have a dig around,
LewX
Check out my fingerstyle arrangement of this song, one of the most underrated bands of the 90s!
I have a GREAT LOVE for this song. Thank you for posting it!!
(pretty, brooding Robby in his lovely black coat!! *twitter*)
Super Kool!
Tell your dad he is awesome, and we love him. And we love you too, cuz you are probably awesome as well.
great album!
Check out Rob's company, Singer Porsche. Dudes got talent to spare.
I swear I heard this song in the beginning of a new Lexus commercial for 2020.
Not quite 20 years yet......Give it three or so:-)
On the album 'Adam & Eve' :-)
@insectsinmyclothes Perfect!
@lewisslade
Haha. I was in my final year of Uni at Bristol. Having grown up in Lowestoft I'd known of CW since the beginning. Amazing memories - amazing album.
It has been, on Amazon UK and other sites I'm sure.
Great band!
@Dermacrosis YES...VERY BEAUTIFUL
I saw these in the early 90s supporting Smashing pumpkins on their Gish tour
You said it. This band should get unparked.
Not to get into a baby fight or anything, but the boys were in 'Catherine Wheel' for 10 years. Formed in '90, went on their holiday in '00 :-)
underestimated band.....great CW...
Anyone know why this album was never released as mp3s?
Can someone please tell me the guitar chords for this song!? It is so pretty! I would love to learn how to play it!
So how long are Catherine Wheel going to stay "parked" for anyways? :-P Hope they some day decide it's time to put some new material together, it would mean a lot to the fans. Rob, Neil, Brian, Dave, we miss you!
Hi, LewX! Cheers- Nicole
@morymb1 1M votes up...i feel exactly the same...if fact, that feeling will never change ;) xxx
@mysty147 I'm with you......
@jerryfalwellsociety Agreed! Those albums are going with me to the grave :-)
❤️
Desperately missed. This record should have had massive success to match its ambition. For my money, Adam & Eve is a better record than OK Computer - which stole its thunder in 1997. It seemed like there wasn't room for both.
OK Computer was commercial crap in comparison.
Tolohtony Just because it was popular doesn't make it crap.
Austin Arnold No, it wasn't "crap", just shallow by comparison.
I agree, this had much more real emotions expressed. I'd rather hear about someone's experience trying to deal with emotions, and maybe failing at it than an album of disengagement. "Try, don't die, pull your life together.." - Catherine Wheel (this song)
i saw both bands on the album tour in 1997. catherine wheel was radiohead's equal. december never ends!
your dad is a great drummer.
author of THE JANNAH FACTOR at amazon.com books sez: A forgotten classic from a criminally underappreciated band that left the music scene too soon.

My solituda... :'(
I stumbled on it the other day... its Capo 2, then play G, G/F#, e for the verse...
pre-chorus is C and then A-... chorus is.. I'm kind lost there actually, but I think its something like G, G/F#, D, e, C, A-... if I'm wrong feel free to degrade me here on TH-cam that's what its for sometimes.. :D
You're pretty much there. The A and E are both minor chords. Sometime youtube is also to say well done.
@myburntfoot Yea Man, you have a famous heart within the CW fan community!
@mysty147 i feel the same! not a day goes by that i dont play CW.
Nelson: "Palmam Qui Meruit Ferat"
...Ma Solituda......
Rings, hoops, loops Bloody _ of fire - and it ₿urns, ₿urns, ₿urns....
Now Rob builds incredible air cooled Porsche 911’s. Look up Singer 911s
Who in the hell is Radiohead?
When they and Catherine Wheel first came out, CW drew me in right away. Never really cared for Radiohead.
Those eyes, wow. They are so mesmerising.........Sorry drifted off to naughty thoughts then :)
On topic: Great song from a great group.
Dermacrosis Couldn't use to see much of his eyes when we at school longer hair was the fashion, but that's what I recognise most still --his eyes.
Gail Sandison
This is after my schooldays, god I feel old, but even if it was hair length was part of the uniform code and so wouldn't be able to get in my eyes. :-D
You feel old?I must be way older. You are as old as your mind. Which makes me about minus 18!LOL
Gail Sandison
Well I was in my 20s when this was released at which point my hair was definatley long enough to be in my eyes. I am 6ft tall and back then it was down to my waist and it was the envy of quite a few women I knew back then too. :-D
Adam And Eve is what got me into them. Shame they had to split.
***** I have never heard of them! Are they American? As for your 6 ft I'm only 5 ft and I would have been jealous LOL (of your hair )x
Coldplay Pull Turn the Wheel to 2008: "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friend"
...funny how a {B}itcoin can change a kicker's game...
@Shrubbs here LOL
You Da Bogeyman :-) x
@causalityofbeing Rob has the most delicious lower lip....and the voice of an angel
After OK Computer Radiohead’s creativity really started. After Adam and Eve Catherine Wheel were done.
No bueno
