- Space Mountain is closing at Tokyo Disneyland in 2024 to be rebuilt! Tomorrowland will also undergo a massive renovation. It’s all set to open in 2027.

That's why I've always thought the architectural style in the Baymax ride doesn't really fit the current Tomorrowland, turns out it was a teaser!
The concept art looks so good. They use the original form and mix with some new element. They always create things same as the concept art

Perhaps this will be how Walt Disney visioned of what Space Mountain was supposed to be from the beginning. I'm so glad that Disney is revisiting that concept. Hope to see it soon.

@@brinks9073 the most CA has gotten was a new coat of paint on the walls and the removal of the rock sculptures at the front
@@CVerse thats not true in 2003 it was retracked by dynamic attractions and it took them 2 whole years. that makes tokyo's the last version of the original ca space mountain since it never got that retracking

Sorry to everyone who goes to the Tokyo one or lives in Japan, but a thing came up on my phone telling me it was shutting down and I go to the US one and I was like NOOO THATS MY FAVORITE RIDE WHYYYY😢 and then I googled and realized it was the Tokyo one and I was so happy it wasn’t ours but sorry to u guys lol

The current ride at Disneyland cali is actually different than when it was open, it was built in house by the disney park until in 2003 Dynamic Attractions retracked it. Tokyo Disneyland's space mountain is the last original track from the first cali space mountain which is sort of cool!

as someone who is in California, I wish the one in Disneyland looked that cool
woah what woah wow thats great ! Of course i LOVE IT, but it has become quite jerky and along with myself getting older, it almost makes me throw up if i ride it more than once lol But I hope it doesn't mean too many closures of other rides during construction though. Because atm there always seems to be something closed, like in June, Thunder mountain, the steam train and pinocchio are closed, after that Haunted mansion, B and B closing for a while etc etc Do you know if these closures have something to do with the expansion of Disney Sea, or is it just maintenance ? Cheers for all your vids !

I'm happy I'm not the only one who noticed! It definitely looks more like a volcano. I'm definitely curious with how they will light up the façade at night though... the current design is able to have dynamic light shows at night that sync with the tommorowland area music. Wonder how they will do those with this design. One thing I hope to see is to have the spires at the top move and maybe reveal some machinery and have some mist come out. It would add some kinetic energy to the area. Kinda like how Paris has the cannon. The design definitely looks like it could do that. I refuse to believe they wouldn't take the opportunity to do something like that.

I can't tell if the concept art depicts lemon meringue or a coconut cream pie mountain. I liked how Tokyo's Tomorrowland maintained its 1970s futurist esthetic for so long. It was only missing the PeopleMover. I wouldn't object to a rebuilt track and a nicer queue for Space Mountain as well as improved landscaping throughout Tomorrowland. But, I'm not a fan of the swooshing lines of this concept art. It makes little sense for what is supposed to be a space station.
The concept of Space Mountain wasn't really supposed to be a space station inthe first place. It was supposed to work as a substitute to the Matterhorn and be a Space Mountain (I honestly also find it to barely make sense). I think they tried to make the concept go full circle and make it look more like a mountain. I'm also not that big of a fan of the new façade, but I like how it does look more dynamic than the cold space age design of the og. They can still improve the art so it looks less like a marketable pastry they can sell based on Space Mountain (which TDL will definitely do).
