@alyssastern6073 Natural Births are save in most cases. Especially if she is already that close to giving birth. Most C-Section are the result of failed inductions or a too long labor (when Mama doesn't have any energy left). Even breech Babys can be delivered vaginally, if a doctor is present, that can intervene if necessary. And if labor is at a certain point, you don't even have to push any more. Its called fetal ejection reflex. You just can't stop it, if you are that far into it. Your Body is going to push that baby out, even if you are trying everything to keep it in.

I love that the psychologist and the midwife nurse stepped in. I know the OB was worried about the baby but, if she had took just a minute to listen to the mother she would have realized that her denial was because of some trauma. The woman clearly was healthy enough to push out the baby. The c section was unnecessary and should be the last measure especially if the mother had the capability to push. She was so guns a blazing about calling legal to force a c section. That would waste time and money and any surgery is risky. If she just listened for a second and had a better bedside manner, she could have taken care of the mom and baby without anyone else stepping in.

The woman was 8 cm dilated meaning that baby was coming any minute. If the woman is in such denial over being pregnant then she's not likely to cooperate and that puts the baby at risk. They were running out of time and needed to do what's best for the baby.

You are right to worry. My child suffered severe clinical negligence at the hands of terrible midwives, nurses and doctors. They will have to accept and settle eventually but that doesn't take away the emotional pain and trauma.

I moved on to another doctor who was kind, who listened, and treated me like a person. I've been her patient for the last 4 years. Trust your gut. As someone in the health care field communication is the master key. Not just an hour or two of talking but actively taking for a multitude of hours throughout the pregnancy. Make sure the OB is someone who is "riding the same wave as you" and is fully aware of what you want and has your conversation details documented. If you want someone in the delivery room with you bring them along (for the longer talking appointments) and make sure they also have a relationship with the doctor. Lastly let the practice know ahead of time (better yet same time you are making your appointments, not the day before) if during your appointments you would like to spend an extended period of time discussing your birthing plan and to make sure the appointment time is adjusted for lengthy conversations and questions (they will appreciate this more than it being sprung up and would be more likely to take the time to truly listen as it will fit into the schedule).

This episode is a great depiction of what black pregnant women go through during child birth. The most heart breaking being that young woman and husband whose baby the doctor decapitated pulling him out of her womb. Im tearing up just typing it. Its 2024 and we cant do better than this? What the actual fuuuuuuuuuuk
......as for the OB, I see alot of ppl saying shes horrible. Not really. If the mother wasnt suffering from cryptic pregnancy, she would have no legsl right to even persue the court order. But being psychologically unwell it is her JOB to advocate and deliver a healthy baby. That episode on law and order if the woman would not stop drinking ling enough to give birth to a healthy baby. After already birthing a son suffering from fetal alcohol syndrome, is a true story. The woman wA held in a mental hospital until she gave birth by way if court order through her husband. He subsequently divorced her and was awarded sole custody. The real mother didnt commit a crime so she dodnt go to prison. I like to think the mother that episode is about, went to rehab. And slowly entered her sons lives again. But hey....you never really know. But the courts and doctors when dealing with a diseased brain take precendent over the patients civil rights. In both cases their disease directly harms the baby making decisions to protect the baby paramount, and given precendent.

I've not watched this show besides clips on here and NONE of the female leads (except maybe the Chief played by Freema Agyeman) have redeeming personalities or do their jobs with care. Perhaps my limited knowledge of the show doesn't help, but the men all seem to be better written characters.

Most Doctors have a Savior Complex and don't actually care about the patients. I'll be having a home birth with a Midwife/ Doula

"most?" Midwives are getting paid too dude. What a weird sweeping statement about doctors who know way more about childbirth than you do.

realistically there's no Iggy for most Black folks giving birth, no matter how it happened, and too often the racist paternalism of the OBs ends up with the parent, child, or both suffering irreparable harm or worse

Forget the stimulus check, I was making bank just off unemployment. That extra $600 a week was great.

You did watch until the end right? Where she said her father sexually assaulted her many times?
She didn't want to have that baby because of the circumstance. So reasonably she was in denial. But it's clear that she either didn't have the resources, or didn't want to go out and have an abortion. Anyways she gave the baby up for adoption

It’s not a lie it’s literally called a cryptic pregnancy. Why does every man make a generalized statement about women when they know nothing? Been putting women’s lives in danger for centuries making assumptions and never listening.
