  • SAILING around the world in a TINY boat! UPDATE!! When Yann Quenet arrived in the Azores earlier this month I contacted him and chatted about his adventures so far and how he feels about almost being finished with his sailing tour around the world in his tiny boat.
A massive thank you to Yann for letting me use this amazing footage of him sailing his tiny Baluchon around the world.
If you would like to follow his adventures and completing his circumnavigation, please check him out on Facebook or on his website.

Our freedoms are taken? Pure BS, people selling their freedom themselves for more security, convenience and entertainment. And on boats you are MUCH DEPENDENT on weather, health, material and technique.

The bird sitting on his head ! It made me think, the that birds can just fly from boat to boat, even in the middle of the ocean. They can often, just glide, and probably can be half a sleep.

Nothing says self confidence quite like designing and constructing one's own sailboat, and then sailing it around the world!
The benefits of microcruisers like this are many, and they have proven themselves over the decades as owner/constructors designed and built themselves their own sailboat.
Almost none were professional boat builders or had any previous experience of boat building, this makes their achievements even more admirable!
Some ignorant people make derogatory remarks about these vessels and their owners, but I suspect that there's much jealousy involved, as the microcruiser Captains have singlehandedly sailed tens of thousands of miles or kilometres, or have circumnavigated the globe.
Thank you for setting up this interview, it will be fascinating to see which changes Yann will make in his next build, based on his extensive experience gained in the last three years of sailing around the world.
Yann is hugely inspirational, and people realise that they don't need large, expensive boats to enjoy the pleasure of sailing.
Whilst many may not be able to find or afford a Pacific Seacraft Flicka, a 20' sailboat capable of circumnavigating the globe, they may be able to construct their own microcruiser that is capable of doing the same!
For a Survival or Emergency situation there is a device called Military Speedhooks, these are specifically designed to attract and very quickly and securely hook fish.
The hooks are under spring tension and once sprung, they immediately secure the fish.
These devices are standard in military survival kits, and the more you set, the greater your chances of catching fish.
    They may be left unattended.

I can afford a Flicka (fantastic boats and will probably end up with one) but I am currently building a Layden Paradox 14’ sharpie chine runner. Florida to Bahamas shakedown cruise then Mass-England or CA-Hawaii solo by 2028 is my goal!
I will document the voyages on YT!

I was working at a marina on the Canary Islands. A boat came in named Baluchon. I went to the pontoon and surprised me how he came down from this boat. He was like nothing after sailing for days alone on this stuff. I could realise at this moment that he is the sort of person made out of other paste. When you meet him in in person, he is very friendly and peacefull. I wish him the best for his new proyects.
