  • How to slow down and start living - gentle arrival of spring in the English countryside.
I’ve spent most of my 20s running after or from something. One of the ways that made me feel alive was moving constantly, changing the place where I live, never staying in the same apartment for over a year. I couldn’t bear the feeling of being settled, being slow and patient in life. I needed to run, to chase something at all times. It seemed to me the longer I lived in one place, the more stagnant I became. I was constantly looking outward, searching for answers outside of myself, in the external, not realising that I need to accept myself first. Accept who I am, work through traumas, present and past - the ones that make me run in the first place. Become at peace with the everyday life, the stuff that seems mundane, but in reality so vital to my journey.

    Wild Garlic Cheese Scones:
    125 g wholewheat flour
    125 g plain white flour
    50g cold butter
    2 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    1/2 tsp paprika
    60g wild garlic
    75g cheddar cheese
    25g parmesan
    100 ml of milk
Preheat the oven to 200C/ 390F.
Chop butter finely and mix with the flour by roughly rubbing it with the palms of your hands until it turns into crumble. Make sure the butter is very cold straight out of the fridge - I like to chop it up first and then store in the fridge while I gather all other ingredients.
Then add baking powder, salt, black pepper, finely chopped wild garlic and cheese. Mix using a spoon or table knife to make sure the ingredients are not overmixed.
Lastly add milk and mix again roughly by hand until the dough starts to hold shape. Transfer onto a flat surface and shape it into a disk about 2-2.5cm high. Either cut it like a cake with a knife to make triangular shapes, or take a cookie cutter or a glass bottle like I did and cut out round shapes.
Lay onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops of your scones with a bit of milk.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the top of the scone is lightly golden.
These are also freezer friendly - you can bake the amount you're going to eat and freeze the rest until you want to eat it next time. You will have to bake it for about 18-20 minutes from frozen.

@raghavnarula7048 I'm from England but have a friend from India (currently living in the states). She's so modest and profound, and I think I built with her the most meaningful connection in my whole life. It must have something to do with how culturally rich India is, that builds up special people. I also love the cinema and poetry there.

Daria, there is another profound quote from the same writer that resonates deeply:
“Do not believe that he who seeks to comfort you lives, untroubled, among the simple and quiet words that do you good."
"His life has much difficulty and sadness, for were it otherwise, he would never have been able to find those words.”

i started my youtube 2 months ago as a way to escape a job and degree i hated.
i soon became obsessed with the numbers and was constantly comparing myself to people that i looked up to. social media became a game that i just had to win.
it was horrible and i had to remove myself from the social media "mindset" (dopamine detoxing) so that i wouldn't burn out.
this video is so incredibly important. slow living, preventing burnout. love this so much.

It makes me sad that so many people go through this life trying so hard "to become who they are meant to be"...and that, of course, make them think they are not, nor ever have been, who they really are. And that is a tragedy. Of course you are who you are meant to be from them moment you came into being under your mother's heart! You do not need special rutines or special whatever to "find yourself" because you are not lost. You are here. Here! Present and correct! You as wonderful, beautiful and unique as You are. Not lost. Not a version of you that need changing. Only time we are not who we are meant to be is when we are selfish, when we are wicked and lack love towards all life, but then we do things we are not meant to be doing as these things are destructive...and through that we create an imbalance in our selves and also around us...peace in the heart and soul has nothing what so ever to do with walking in nature it has everything to do with what we give to this world, with how our footprints are, something good or something bad it does not matter if we walk city streets or deep forests. As long as one does not put unselfish good into this world where it is needed the most one will never really start living. And your dreams will include all life, the best for all life not so called "self fulfillment"(And it is very possible that good will have to be done in any way but slow...)

Since I've been watching and listening to the slow living vlogs (about a year now) I take my walks and work in my garden with a different attitude. It is really enjoyable to think back to them as I ramble through the neighborhood, fields and woods. I have decided that I feel this way because it brings me back to my childhood and that little something I had lost. In this big, wide, wonderful world there is always something new to discover about it and in doing so to discover something new about myself.

We all want to be somewhere, somewhere grand, somewhere where we will feel good. The goals, milestones and such. "Oh if only I had that one thing, I would be happy". And it's great to have a goal and purpose. But if you run yourself dry trying to get there completely switching off your feelings, your awareness in that pursuit, you will inevitably lose a portion of your life. Being present in the moment is really hard, but really important at the same time. We default to so many things and it's not really a great thing. So staying present is essential.
Thank you for sharing your musings. They do bring a lot of interesting thoughts!
Beautiful video as always! Well done ❤

      @IamDaria  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you so much! 🥰 I absolutely agree. We lose so much on the way, in that hectic rush to “get there”. While goals are important and I have many as well, what we do on the way is going to impact us, perhaps, even more!

Thank you for making such beautiful videos, Daria. I very much appreciate them, and your thoughtful musings. I love the beauty you capture in nature and in your home, as well as the perfect music you choose, and the lovely clothes you wear. There are ideals we can aspire to, even if only for short spans of time, that are well worth the effort it takes. I try to notice beauty wherever I can find it, and practice gratitude for the small things as well as the big things. Life is never perfect, but we can make perfect moments. Your scones look so delicious, by the way! I hope you were able to enjoy tea and scones in your garden with someone special.

For me, spring symbolises the opposite of slowing down. I'm done with that. 😅
I associate it with increased daylight, warmer temperatures, and the blooming of flowers, all of which can bring a sense of vitality and renewed energy. Embracing the energy of spring can inspire to pursue new activities, set fresh goals, and embrace positive changes in our lives.

    • @IamDaria
      @IamDaria  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That is true, I agree with you! I thought about it too as I wrote this text. What I’m thinking is that Winter and Spring both have a different way of slowing us down. In winter it’s the solemn, quiet, still kind of slowness. The atmosphere that slows us down almost forcefully, making us embrace life in the same pace nature does in its sleepiest state. While in spring - just like you said - the vitality makes us feel alive, it’s the awakening, the newness, the youthful energy of it all that makes us move. But it’s the time when slowing down becomes a deliberate choice - to stop, to notice, to marvel at it all as much as you can, and then gain that movement, just as spring does, not forgetting to stop and “smell the flowers”. Miss a glance, and it all moved along too quickly. 🌷

😊 Beautiful video, Daria! Your musings, as Nature slowly awakens from its Winter sleep, are very thought provoking, and so, they made me think about a dear Japanese friend of mine, because these concepts are an essential part of Bushido, encapsulated in the Sakura (🌸cherry tree) symbol and the wabi-sabi (appreciation of imperfections and the effects of time as beautiful signs of harmony and change). Those blooming moments (both in nature and ourselves) are the product of all the previous energy and efforts, and no matter how modest and fleeting they are, the longtime struggle to reach them is absolutely worth-while, and just as beautiful as the result itself. Holding on to their perfection would be a mistake, as it would prevent evolution and improvement: if a flower stayed frozen in time, there would never be a fruit, for instance. Perfection is sterile, it doesn't leave us room to go beyond. It's a hard lesson to learn, at least for me, as someone who holds on to beautiful places and moments till the very end, and experiences deep suffering at their disappearance or even alteration. ☺️ I'm still learning to treasure them just in my heart and memory, as I move on. But you have proven to be much wiser!! 😊👍 Oh, and thank you for letting us into your beautiful secret garden!!😍🙏😉 Have a lovely weekend! 👏👏👏🤗😘
