      Marathon racing is a tough nut to crack. But when everything goes well, that’s when you really feel that excitement and appreciation for all the work over the years. The weather, training, fuel, race performance, when it all works out and comes together, it’s amazing and worth every up and down. Then you chase it again, and again 😉

    I really liked video for the honesty and positivity . I loved the race. An amazing race with amazing weather in an amazing city. One of my favorite memories will be how many Chicago residents congratulated me on finishing while I walked back to my hotel.

    Congratulations on finishing! I hope you feel better soon. You not filming this race and wanting to simply enjoy the experience is why I love your channel. Enjoy your pizza!
    I purchased the Skyline Hospitality Tent based on your recommendation and it was awesome. Thank you! Those sandwiches and cookies were A+ :-) This was my 1st big city marathon and the crowds were impressive. I want to run Chicago again soon!

    Good job! I enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing your experience. It takes guts! I think the Alphafly will suit your build and mechanics better over the marathon distance over the Vaporfly. Maybe even that Prime Strung you just got. As for me, I went with the Adios Pro 3, and the upper caused pain to my foot toward the end of my race and I missed my BQ by less than two minutes. Still got a PR, though. On to the next race!

    • @ChristianRunsNY
      @ChristianRunsNY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh man, so close. Part of me is feeling similar that maybe the Alpha is a good choice for me, also thinking about the new Endorphin Pro 3. I do think I have a little better understanding of the cause of the issue now which I'll talk about soon in a little debrief, but yea shoe choice is open in my head going forward for sure.

      Yea those cups are a challenge at first. There are some great marathoners who actually stop and walk to grab a drink. But if you can get a hang of that cup pinch, you do shave a few seconds per fluid station. Most important is you get the water in you!
      Congratulations on your first! What a great day and course for a first experience. The hard part about Chicago being number one (it was my first as well), is it is one of the best combinations of flat, weather, crowd support, and ease in and out of the start/finish, the rest you may run, pose a bit more of a challenge in one way or another.
      But either way I hope you enjoyed, met some goals you set for yourself, and maybe made some running friends. Congratulations again!

    Congrats 👏 missed you in Chicago; try again in New York.... 20 years of running Chicago-this was about the best-prepared expo, race, and - of course weather(?!). Interesting look inside the VIP tent. I run/walk now (74 yrs young) and I found out with the 1st trial of my Vaporfly`s - terrible, terrible for walking. I use them only when I don't plan on walking - Sorry you had to find out the hard way. Hope you enjoyed the deep dish.. and congratulations 🎊

      Thank you, and yes I had great weather in 2019 when the female record was set, it was pretty equal this weekend and I think we would have seen a new WR honestly if Ruth Chepngetich had not gone for an absolutely BLAZING fast 35k. I also agree the new expo location was awesome. It was in a different room last time I ran, and I liked this setup better. All around fantastic weekend, truly, even with my results. Congratulations to you and heck yea to still getting after it at a YOUNG 74!

      @ChristianRunsNY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      See, maybe the slight chance we walk a little in a marathon opens the door for a new consideration in shoe reviews 😂
      Let us know some more about Steamtown. Someone I talked to pre-race paces Steamtown at times and said it was a lot of fun. I may need to do it soon, it isn't far from home.

    • @Shevock
      @Shevock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely should do it. It's hilly but fast. A definitely net downhill course. But there are uphill too, so if you prefer not to run flat, it's a good course for a PR. You'll feel those hills in your quads the next day though. My ankle started hurting by mile 8 and by mile 16 my form was shot because of the ankle/Achilles pain in my left foot. It's my first marathon so I don't have a big enough sample to judge by, so maybe my body is just better at 13.1s, which end before my ankle gives out, or maybe I need to change something in training. Right now I'm not worried about it because in the next cycle or two I want to get more speedwork, so maybe a 10k or half in the Spring.

    Hey man finishing a marathon is something to be proud of and happy with. Congratulations on doing something most never even try to do!
    I wanted to ask something, and I want to preface that it’s absolutely not an insult. This isn’t from a aesthetic perspective, either…purely functional based upon empirical data. More bodyweight is almost always a disadvantage if it is mass beyond what is needed to power you to run. A massive improvement to my running came when my mileage went to 40-50mpw and my bodyweight consistently dropped from 170lbs to 144lbs (today) over about 4 months. I’m always very surprised when I see serious runners who are over 12-15% body fat…not from an aesthetic perspective, but rather it would seem you’d need to legitimately eat pretty heavy to not lose body fat/weight on higher volume running. I maintain

    • @ChristianRunsNY
      @ChristianRunsNY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeaaa, I mean I don't take anything you're saying offensively, truly. But even when I look "slim" in high school, and really had fairly little fat playing some football and track, I would never be below 225lbs. That's just my body. So I have room to shed some weight and certainly could get to more milage, eat healthier, but I personally would be withering away, muscle included losing more than 10-15 lbs. I'm just not a runner body which is why I never thought I could do it, but last Chicago I knocked out a 3:37:37 at 230lbs. So I just need to get back to my best first and go from there depending on how serious I want to push for PRs.

      Thank you, yea I have a guess of what’s going on and it’s actually the contralateral hamstring tendons. It caused me to run really unbalanced at race pace and I’m putting extra strain on the other leg, causing pain like it’s approaching an ankle stress fracture. The ankle feels better even today but my butt is on fire still lol. Weird how the body works, but yea hopefully there is some useful PT to get back to full strength soon 🤞🏼
