I'm just as obsessed if not more so with classic ocean liners as I am with old planes. Please make this a regular thing! Up through the end of the 1950's, ocean liners were more important and prominent than planes were until the advent of the jet plane when flying was made available to the masses.

The boat that brought my family to emigrate to America. Great to see her sail.

Definitely a fan of this, love the classic transatlantic ocean liners. They look much better than today's cruise ships.

The good times! When travelling by ship - luxury liner - was an occasion. And people had a sense of occasion. Nowadays, thousands of people on a cruise ship, with tank tops and baseball caps worn backwards at the dinner table! I realize that times change, and things can not be as they were, but I do wish folks would make more of an effort to act and dress as though they have some self respect. Lovely video.

Those were the last days of ocean voyages. The quality and service cannot be imagined by people today who's standards are so low. I was on several of the great liners. QE, QM, SS United States. Also the great French ocean liners. I was docked next to the Andreadoria before her fateful voyage.
That world and the perhaps illusion of civilised behaviour, good manners is long gone. At this time the world population was 3 1/2 billion. In just 5 decades that has more than doubled. The Queen Mary was not built to be a third rate hotel nor tourist attraction. It was a world that moved more slowly and with a bit of dignity.

Definitely bring it on. The more the better. The SS United States is still sitting docked in Philadelphia and she made the speed record back in the early 50s. This was REALLY the way to travel.

That was stunning! I would be especially keen to see the interiors of the ships. Most of these home movies focus on the outdoors. Thank you for the video!

Great video. Thanks! The 1950's was the last decade where a lot of people still tended to travel by boat between Europe and the US. The arrival of jet aircraft was the final nail in the coffin for these beautiful ships and the way of life they represented.

It was dissappointing. A glorious liner not in shape, unproperly maintained and full of modern cheap furniture in many of her lounges

How ironic that a channel that mainly focuses on the very thing that ended ocean liner's careers uploads this...

This must have been before her stabilisers where fitted. She certainly pitched from side to side.

I've spent the night on the QM twice. The tour is extremely interesting, being able to go all the way to the bow knowing your under the water line, the pool area, seeing the prop under water with the 'diver' beside it...very creepy and erie, but awesome at the same time.
I recommend visiting its port if ever around the Huntington Beach area. Well worth the time!

Visited this great ship in Long Beach earlier this year. It still looks good and I can imagine just how luxurious to travel in it across the Atlantic back in the day.

Great to see a film of RMS Queen Mary leaving Pier 90 in Manhattan and sailing across the North Atlantic in her "Glory Days" with many passengers all enjoying the crossing.
    Thanks for sharing! 😊👍

I believe those are the bilge pumps running, or possibly the ship dumping ballast after having taken on a load of passengers.

Actually these are outlets for cooling water (sea water) used to cool the engines/turbines and other mechanical equipment.

Glad to find this movie. Great memories flooding back to me. I was age 16 and a bell-boy on Queen Mary in 1961/2. Richard Parker.
