So wait.. if moving our jaws and clenching our hands help remember things... is that why we remember movie scenes so well? Eating popcorn = moving the jaw. Grabbing the soft drink from the IMPOSSIBLY SMALL HOLES = clenching hands.
    Movie theaters know their shit!

Ever notice that you seem to be able to recall the lyrics of songs you listen to while driving? Especially those you sing along to? I did. I Needed to memorize a speech, so i recorded myself and listened to to it and "sang along" with it on my commute for a couple of days, and i still have it memorized to this day.

Sounds like associative learning. If you chew gum while learning something new, you can then chew the same flavor of gum at some point in the future to help you recall the information. This does not only apply to gum, it can be anything that applies to your senses (like sounds and touch).

Couple days ago I was at a lecture of a man who got a guinness record for the best memory, he told that the best way to remember something is to imagine the thing in the weirdest way you can and and then connect the all together to thing you don't need to remember like thing in your house or other things from your every day life.

This. You can will yourself to remember something. You still need to refresh that memory or it will fade, but it really does work. It works best though on a single thing or event, it's harder to do when you try to memorize multiple things, as you would for an exam.

To remember numbers, I try to make as many connections as possible. I'll add, multiply, compare until I have so many connections that even if I can't remember all of the numbers, I can go through the list of connections in a process of elimination until I get it.

When I was in primary school learning to spell I found it hard to spell the word "because" I remembered it by saying in my head Big Elephants Can Always Use Small Exits. It's very easy to spell, but old habits die hard & I still say that phrase in my head every time I spell because.

i had a friend who dislocated her jaw from chewing gum too much. granted, she would chew one piece for hours on end, but it has turned me off from chewing gum. plus, i get super hungry from it! also, what if the researchers tested memory retention with subjects in rooms scented with lavender, roses, or other pleasant smells? it just seems so obvious that a nice smelling room would make you remember things better.

My technique is repetition. But the weird thing is that I can't do it by writing whatever it is down over and over again or repeating it in my head. I have to record myself saying it then play it on loop. And I have a slight photographic memory. If I were to look at something, I'll remember what catches my eye, but everything around it will be a blur.

I remember information better if I put it into a song. Just take a familiar tune from the radio, childsong or anything and simply insert the information wher the actual lyrics would go. Then all you need to do is humming the song and the info is popping up :) Rhimes are also good and repeting stuff, over and over. Tedious but effective :) Also, of course, you have to pay attention in order to remember. So easy, yet so hard ;) Hope it can be of any help to someone :)

I remember doing something with my fingers (moving them from pinkie to thumb, over and over) when i wanted to learn something fast from textbooks back in high-school, then when i was on the test i would repeat the movement and some like keywords would pop out in my mind, i would start remember the phrases, the paragraphs, some concept maps, till somehow i would see like an image of the pages i read, as if i reassembled a puzzle each time, and "Re-read them" i dunno that's how my mind works...

K luminosity can help you strengthen your brain, i know because i used it for a month and really improved, although i didn't continue using it as i am a student and needed to put my money else where but yah, so far it is the best brain training program out there and its extremely easy. I hope others who want to get a better brain see this so it can help them, plus a warning if u sign up and then after a month don't do anything they continue to send emails for a year, so watch out.

I'm not sure, and this is just speculation (someone better informed correct me if I'm wrong) but might chewing gum also help memory as a throwback to hunter-gatherer times. It would make evolutionary sense for the memory to work in a different way when a person is eating, to remember the details of where food was found and the look/feel/smell of the food for future reference?

I couldn't remember which of "injective" and "surjective" means "one-to-one" and which means "onto", which is horrible considering I have a degree in math. Then someone told me to remember injective corresponds to 1-1 because the the "i" looks like a "1". It's so weird I have no problem remembering it.
As a side note, anyone else slightly annoyed the example of winning a sports match was a boy and that of heartbreak was a girl because that reinforces stereotypes? Am I being oversensitive?

yes, but thats mostly brought about BY the no gum rule. you either admit to chewing gum (which is against the rules) by going and spitting it out, or you swallow it (which is widely regarded as unhealthy), or you can simply stick it under the desk and forget about it. the gum rule doesn't prevent this, if anything it exacerbates the problem. thats not to say that some lazy ass holes would stick it under there just to not have to get up and through it away though.
