    This train hits our family pretty close! My Great-Grandfather Lawrence Jacobs was the most senior conductor during the Electroliner's final trip on the NorthShore! He'd been an engineer for many decades for the NorthShore line, and he retired the day the Electroliner did! When they finish rehabbing the interior where it rests at the Illinois museum, the museum has asked our family to be there for the opening ceremony! I have lots of pictures I've inherited from his time as the conductor!

      That's a wonderful memory, and thank you for sharing. Very awesome to have a family member who was a conductor / engineer on the Electroliner.

      I won't disagree with you there, it's one of the few premier Chicago Subway / Interurban models that MTH did.

    Very nice set with the bogie trucks. Like how your shared the history and got to ride in one of the coaches. It is a shame that MTH is going away next year. Take care. Train Room Gary 🚂

      Thank you Gary, I'm really sad about the closing as well. Maybe we will get lucky and someone will swoop in and rescue it.

    Thanks for the video.I agree that this model does a great job looking and sounding like the real trains. I live in suburban Philadelphia and got to ride these trains when the Red Arrow bought them and repainted them in their colors and called them Liberty Liners. I worked attending college in a store on Rt.30 and rode the liners between 69th street and Villanova. Unfortunately although I own several MTH items I never knew they made this model and the Liberty Liner model. I would have liked to have one to run on my O gage model railroad just to relive the memory of ridding them.

    Fun Fact: these trains were studied by Japanese designers when they made the bullet train.

      Thank you so much. It was in the catalog, but I don't think they made too many of them. I don't think they are really hot sellers either because they are region specific to Chicagoland.

    Thank you for sharing. Love watching model videos, would love to own one but the wife would kill me, so have to watch others, which is fine. But you spoke about the tethers. It reminds me of other TH-camrs speaking about the problems they had with the Mark Twain Burlington Zephyr. Thanks for sharing a great video, especially the history. I live in the Chicagoland area and go to IRM a few times a year. Always a lot of fun

    I like how the natural original sounds were put into this train such as the horn. The original gong sound though is missing as it was pretty similar to the old South Shore Line Pullman-Standard cars. You would there the gong only in the streets of Milwaukee.

    • @wcmodelrailroad
      @wcmodelrailroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Albert, MTH did a great job of creating the sounds on this Electroliner. Thank you for watching the channel!

    • @albertcarello5489
      @albertcarello5489 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wcmodelrailroad I also thought the original Electroliners had another set of horns like the old South Shore cars and the regular North Shore cars on addition to the low note horn.

    • @albertcarello619
      @albertcarello619 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant you'd hear the alarm gongs in Milwaukee's city streets where there seemed to be like a no train horn ordinance except in emergencies.

    • @albertcarello619
      @albertcarello619 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wcmodelrailroad You're Welcome! You'd like to capture the actual sounds of the alarm gongs to program in this trainset similar to the old SOUTH SHORE LINE PULLMAN STANDARD CARS that were built 1926-1929.

  • @albertcarello619
    @albertcarello619 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm surprised the South Shore Line didn't have a couple of trainsets like this running between South Bend and Chicago. The traffic volume probably didn't warent it .

    • @wcmodelrailroad
      @wcmodelrailroad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was certainly a fleet of interurbans that covered the South Shore line, but no electroliners.

    • @albertcarello619
      @albertcarello619 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wcmodelrailroad There just didn't seem to be the traffic potential between South Bend and Chicago like there was between Milwaukee and Chicago.

    It would be nice to have a 3rd rail model alongside the tracks. An imaginary 3rd rail.

    What are Jacobs-Bogeys?

    • @wcmodelrailroad
      @wcmodelrailroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A way of connecting two pieces of rolling stock. Instead of being underneath a piece of rolling stock, Jacobs bogies are placed between two carriages. The weight of each carriage is spread across the Jacobs bogie. You are basically removing the coupler and using a Jacobs Bogie to connect the cars together.
