I have been a Bond fan for over 40 years & the narration of this story has been a real pleasure. I hope one day they make this story into a film and follow the story the way Casino Royal with Daniel Craig did. As for Vivian Mitchell ....WOW, honey voice🥰🥰
Rula Lenska, the narrator of this version, is utterly fabulous! Her deeper voice commands such knowledge, hidden beneath the surface. To be truthful, as I began listening, I got confused, thinking to myself, "Wait, is this the correct recording? Where the blankety-blank-blank is Bond?!" Fear not, Commander Bond does indeed enter. I really liked the unfamiliar perspective of this novel. Unique, unexpected, and thoroughly enjoyable.
Good for you. For me it was in the bottom when I read through them all. Maybe if I gave it another read through my thoughts would change. Why is it your favorite ?
@@audiobookgold6717 I like the character of Vivianne Michelle. There is a truly delightful "time capsule" effect in all the books and I love the backdrop of cold war and espionage at a time when a great deal depended on it. But Viv so fits the world of 1962 and I love Flemings descriptions of New England at the time. Since I wind up caring more about Vivianne than most other characters the drama in the motel feels very intense. Bond showing up at just the right time and quickly grasping is kind of thrilling.
@@art.and.lit.matters Every time I hear the name Vivianne the first thing that comes to mind is _The Young Ones._ "Vyvian! Vyvian! Vyvian! Honestly! Whenever anything explodes in this house it's always 'blame Vyvian!'"
@WhiteJarrah Pedant alert! (Similar vibe to when Rik calls Neil a 'bloody eavesdropper' to which Neil sticks his head back through the window and declares 'I heard that, Rik'. Whilst you are right about Vivian's rant about people always accusing him of causing explosions he actually says 'it's always BLOODY Vivian'. NOT 'blame'. There, I warned about the petty pedantry of my reply. Whilst I do feel some amount of shame, I can never resist getting involved with comments about The Young Ones - my favourite show as a ten year old and still bearing up well to me as a fifty year old pedant. 'Why don't you like me?' 'Because you're a complete bastard and we hate you'. 'I find that rather difficult to believe'. Genius! Have a good day 🙏
I listened for almost an hour and was concerned this wasn’t actually a James Bond novel. Shuffled forward a bit til I heard “the Englishman” figured it was legit and waited. The reveal of Bond almost made me tear up of how great the writing is
An interesting departure from the previous books. Narrated by a young canadian girl, its autobiographical in the most part with Bond only appearing in the final third. Apparently Fleming wasn't happy with the fan reactions at the time and tried to suppress circulation in the UK! Its quite enjoyable for the most part and I did like the woman’s narration. Good job!
Hoo boy. When I read this at age 14 I thought it was hot stuff. That was nearly 60 years ago. I can see Fleming’s wisdom in only writing from a woman’s viewpoint once. Not his long suit.
The first time I read this I was not a fan. Now after listening to it I have done a 180. I really do like the aspect of it being in first person. And it’s very similar to From Russia with Love where the first half doesn’t feature Bond. You really get invested in Vivenne’s character and feel the fear she does when she’s attacked by Sluggsy and Horror.
I'm so confused. Where the hell is James Bond? Edit: It's told from the perspective of Vivienne Michel. This is actually quite fascinating and the narrator is brilliant.
Brothers, when James Bond arrived at the hotel talking about his activities, the Arabic translation stopped About smuggling dialogue towards Finland who volunteers against Russia Please re-translate this part into Arabic so that I can complete the end of the story ❤
An interesting change up in the middle of the series. I apricated the change up, but definitely read more like what I would expect from a cheaper romance novel with Fabio on the cover. That being said I still enjoyed it for the most part.

I'm fortunate to have the narration performed by Nadia May, whose reading is a pleasure, unlike this unworthy narration. Nadia actually sounds like a Canadiènne! Nadia isn't in a race to get through the book as quickly as possible, like this person. If you are listening to this awful awful reading and think that you don't care for Ian Fleming's James Bond, try to find the Nadia May performance. It's really wonderful.
Oh give me strength ‼️ Bond gets a tv in the face while fully armed. Did Ian Fleming really write this crap? 😮💩 No wonder the movie is utterly different ‼️
This lady is such a wonderful narrator.

Thank you for this. Strangely, and certainly against the critical and popular current, it is my favorite of all the Bond novels. This audio is lovely.

Also very shocking to hear a bond book from not the voice of Ian Fleming or the perspective of James Bond. Loved it
I’m at two hours and came to the comments to make sure 007 was going to be in this.
I love looking at Bond from the outside for once. Poor Fleming, people gave him hell for this, but it was a worthy experiment with a good payoff.
What a voice.... you take me there.

My screen time has gone up exponentially since I found this Bond series. I am particularly this book.
Wow, glad you enjoy. Diane, do you have a favorite Bond novel? And what's your favorite non Bond novel, series, or author ??

Could not get into the female reader.
But it's a story told by the woman. No man would read this story 😂
I wanted a James Bond novel. Disappointing.
This is a James bond novel, maybe it wasn't obvious enough
