      My other question is. Is it possible to have both. A Gaming PC, & A Server both in one Rack.?
      The reason for this crazy Question. That I'm trying to make. A *( Space Staion ) looking room. With a Pc on Top of a rack. Than some Storage Device. To make it look like. The old Computers from Old SciFic movie's. Like *( THE BLACK HOLE, PLAN 9, & BUCK ROGER'S IN THE 24TH CENTURY ). Thank you sir..

    Well done. Looks amazing :) And yes the 16port is a bit small for most households these days. I have an 8 port but when we move, I have to go up to a 24port myself. 10Gbit is also a well thought out addition, with more and more storage being needed these days, and who doesn't want to have a nice slim machine on the desk and all the 'real' bulky storage, in a rack ;)
    Good job!

    Amazing the similarities with my network. I started with a Linksys router and switch, upgraded to a DrayTek Vigor and Cisco managed switch, now I have an APC UPS at the bottom of my rack with Ubiquiti router, switch, and PoE AP. Awesome video, great rack, and cabling. The arctic white color scheme looks great too, kinda perfect for a villain's lair. Ha, ha! Just nitpicking but it would be great to also have the square hole rails and screw heads painted white, but that's just for vanity. Great job man! 👍🏼
    I'm working on my rack at this moment. Finally after a couple of years I found a used 20U full-size rack for a great price. I'm just starting the process of mounting everything, so, it will probably a good year to year 1/2 project to get the rack to look how I want it.

      Hi Jared, thanks for the feedback. I only started doing videos because I couldn't find the information I wanted to see on youtube. I still have that Netgear switch on my network but I would like to replace it with a small UniFi switch as I like the level of control the Ubiquiti stuff gives me. I admire this so much, and even as a simple home user this is what I'm aiming towards - something that can move when I move, can be updated at it's core over time as tech changes rather than oh, new wifi? replace the whole thing. oh new ethernet? replace it all yet again. Well done with all the effort this must have taken you and THANKYOU for detailing every small detail even about what rack you used!!

    • @AlbaTech
      @AlbaTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher H. Thanks. I really like the modularity of the Ubiquiti equipment, and looking that nice is a bonus. I knew roughly where I wanted to go with it, and I did plan a fair amount. But I also got lucky with some of the decisions I made. In retrospect I could have planned it a bit better but I was always going to be limited by funds so the whole project took a long time. It was worth it though I think.

      I am looking to setup a network cabinet at home in the new year. Any advice you can share? I am finding 10gb switches in the affordable range now so minded to include 10gbe capacity in the design. Also considering a 24 port poe+ switch to manage ip cams and APs. Looking to also integrate AV equipment as well as smart home tech. Do you think with all this in mind a 6u wall cabinet is sufficient or something bigger like yours?

    • @AlbaTech
      @AlbaTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@muhibhoque6925 10GbE is much more affordable now. I like Ubiquiti for the UniFi interface and IP camera abilities but there are other options. It took years to build this setup so yes, if you were to purchase the lot in one go it would be a big investment. But spread over that amount of time, it has been manageable.

    Can you please do a video on setting up the Ubiquiti 10gb switch? I added one to my rack and a Rosewill 10gb card to my NAS PC, but no matter what cable I plug into the 10gb switch, it doesn't show anything connected. The only ports that show a connection are the link SFP+ cables I have connecting to my other Ubiquiti switches.

    • @AlbaTech
      @AlbaTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have plans for a video on the 16XG, but I have a couple of other videos I need to get done - including one on a TB3 to 10GbE connection. The switch should auto-negociate the link speed if you are using the 10GbaseT ports. I'm not sure what a NAS PC is but if you are using SFP modules you might have to manually config the link speed.

      Tassos Photography Thanks! Good question. I still like the look of the ZPAS, and it has the ‘Wife Acceptance Factor’. Thank you, great setup! Please do the Draytek Vigor 130 review. It is three times the price of equivalents, so keen to know why it is worth it. Also, did you think about pfSense for the firewall instead of the Ubiquity? Unified admin interface is obviously the benefit, but the pfSense seems to have a lot more flexibility and functionality.

    • @AlbaTech
      @AlbaTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Yes, I have started filming material for the Vigor video but I've got a video or two I need to get out of the way first. I did watch a few videos about pfSense but if you watch my Cloud Key video you will see that I am just too lazy to maintain something like that! I was tempted when I found out how challenging it was to get access to the web interface of the Vigor through the WAN side of the USG, but I will include that json file explanation in the modem video.

    Very tidy ;ooking rack, nicely done!!
    One question I have though. Generally when the broadband comes into the house it terminates near the front door or in the lounge (depending one where BT or the local ISP provider provide their service to). If you have to have the rack in a different location, how or what would you connect the Telco/ISP termaintion to the rack that's located elsewhere?

    • @AlbaTech
      @AlbaTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      picsby_mike Thanks! The primary socket provided by my ISP fits both RJ11 and RJ45 -I believe that is very common. So RJ45 from that to a wall panel, then Cat6a to the patch panel. The problem I had was the RJ11 on the modem. I initially used a custom made cable but I found a really cheap RJ45(female) to RJ11(male) on Amazon, which allowed me to use a standard patch lead.

    • @picsby_mike
      @picsby_mike 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlbaTech Thanks for coming back as quick as you did. I am looking to have a house built in the future and was wondering how to do it. Maybe I can tell the ISP where to terminate so make things easier in the long run or do they only go to the places I mentioned in my original post?

    • @TheFatDingus
      @TheFatDingus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@picsby_mike They'll put it wherever you want, but make sure you let them know beforehand. There may be an extra cost to it. I've worked with many ISPs the past year and some will charge extra, some won't.
