You're welcome, I'm sure - I'll give this one another go at some point too, and actually set the res correctly this time so it doesn't look quite so pixelated. (^_~)

No argument there... I just meant I set the aspect ratio wrong. Didn't even notice it until my brother pointed out the setting in WinUAE. (^_^;)

Thank your for this rare Game on youtube. Reminds me of the sci fi rpg Slaygon for Atari.

No problem, and yeah, it should remind you of that title since it's by the same programmers. In fact, it pretty much is a repurposed Slaygon, a game that wasn't terribly good or popular, yet ended up being so much better on the rebound with this version - definitely a firm favourite of mine anyway. ... wow, what a coincidence lol. I've watched this LP of yours (Day of the Viper) a while ago because I never beat it back in the day. Didn't think I'd meet you on a Final Fight LNS stream lol

Small world indeed, it would seem. (^_~)
By all means put a comment up on any of my Bulleta videos if you need some help. I do plan to record more once I get good enough to complete it consistently on at least Musou with her (seriously, it was only yesterday night that I finally managed to beat Marathon mode on Normal).

I just beat this. And man was it a journey lol. I didn't find a Red Disruptor Pistol back in Building 3 anywhere, so either that's a difference between the DOS and Amiga versions, or it's an RNG thing? I note a lot of items are very RNG in at least the DOS version as to what's spawned. I even got an extra combination number without any more storage rooms to use them on at Building 5 floor 5. Anyway, not finding the Red Disruptor Pistol wasn't much of a problem, I got one in short order once I reached Building 5 and it was soon made obsolete as I found the White one shortly after.
I replayed Building 5 Floor 5 THREE TIMES. I found the Shield Prototype but not the Weapon Prototype (well, not technically, I'll explain in a bit). I tried my luck against GAR with the White Disruptor Pistol but it didn't feel like I was doing anything. I checked your video and noticed you're not using the White Disruptor Pistol, and it can't possibly be the Green one, so I went back to floor 4 and found it. Also, that floor is weird in my run. DOSBOX freezes when I try to go to a specific location in the northwest side, so I just ended up avoiding it. Fortunately, the data disk wasn't in that zone.
Attempt #2, I got everything, I was ready, then I noticed... I was short one White Data Disk. I checked your video again to see if the last disk was on floor 5, and... it was. So... my game actually spawned a floor without a computer room. And thus no White Data Disk #5. WOW. THANKS GAME. And I didn't really have a backup save from much earlier. Fortunately, it was salvaged by just moving up to floor 4, saving, renaming MAP24.SAV to MAP24.SAV.BAK, then heading in to see if the map was regenerated. It was, and this time, there was a data disk.
And then finally the fight with GAR, I really didn't know if I was succeeding at doing damage but I persevered and finally won. And then I uploaded the data and stared at the system like an idiot before thinking to return to the computer room. Of course, I forgot where the computer room was, so there was more fumbling around for it. But hey, I finally beat it, and that's what mattered.
Also I apparently managed to roll two Krellian Power Spheres, and had one left for this floor, so I just used it to trivialize the trip to GAR. I like the game but I have the same complaints as you do (inventory size plus pure mouse controls, not even WASD/arrow keys/numpad for movement). I'll add on a bit more in that I wish we had strafe as well turn, though I guess the dev can argue that the Viper may not be nimble enough to strafe well or whatnot. The gunplay could be a bit better too I guess. I don't quite need Doom, but it feels a bit BS at how I totally can't hurt some stuff reasonably, like the cloaking bipedal robots. It just leads to me having to backtrack to collect more explosives. Still glad I took the time to beat this though.

Anticipating your response, I actually rewatched my video yesterday. Man, I got so damn lucky, didn't I, coming within an inch of dying in quite a few places. In any event, I definitely need to give this a proper replay at some point, and this time with the correct aspect ratio so it doesn't tick my younger brother off so much. (^_^;)
That aside, both the red gun & yellow shield are on Floor 4 of Building 3 as you can see at 1:10:32. It was behind a yellow door in this playthrough, but you can get very unlucky and it ends up behind a white door. This is the reason why I go for the red card on Floor 5 beforehand to increase my chances of getting in that room to 80% rather than 60%. As you have obviously noticed as well, many elements of the game are procedurally generated, though certain items are also always in the same place every time you play. (^_^)
I've never played the DOS version myself, but it doesn't surprise me at all that it has some issues because both Captive & Bloodwych did too... I'm glad you found a way round the problems to finish it in the end. Yep, and I didn't go for the shield prototype as it requires you to collect almost every note (it's located in one of the storage rooms - Floor 2 of Building 5, I believe), whereas the gun prototype is on Floor 3 at the end of the corridor with all the poxy mines everywhere. Heh, this is utterly trivialised, however, if you complete Floor 4 first and obtain the Universal Repair Kit, which fully populates your circuit board with every chip rendering you pretty much invincible to all but raw damage overall. (=^_^=)
GAR may only be damaged to a maximum of 50% using a C120 Grenade: all other weapons are totally ineffective except your laz gun. He actually possesses both prototypes, making it a tough fight if you don't have them yourself (you can see that he wipes out my white shield in a single shot in the video). You're not alone with not realising you need to go back to a computer room after restarting the 7000 Defence Computer either, although it does tell you it's down the very first time you read the computer log on Floor 1 of Building 1. (^_^;)
I think there are at least three Krellian Power Spheres in the entire game. Like with the Security Room Activator, some of GAR's elite troops are immune to its effects, but it pretty much wipes out everything on a floor if used. Every weapon has its uses, but the C120 Grenades are undoubtedly the most versatile since they can also take out traps at a distance. Oh, and though the cloaking enemies are annoying for sure, I feel the worst one in the game has to be what me & my brother once dubbed "Doors", the stupid bloody tank which you can only hit when he shoots. Fortunately, the Neutron Detonator will take them out in one shot, so it is a good idea to try and bait several into following you on the floors they appear and bump them all off simultaneously since they aren't very damaging really (which is more than can be said for those 'Iraqi Superguns' as we used to call them, particularly when there's a bunch of them together).

@@sasamisa1806 Wow. I thought I posted a reply, then I checked and saw that my reply wasn't there. Thank goodness for Notepad++ having a large enough undo buffer to get everything back again 0_0
As I was saying, I'll have to rewatch your video again for the close calls, but assuming it plays like the DOS version, Viper is pretty easy if you're willing to make it REAL boring by running back every time as needed to restock on explosives and/or refill your energy from a known Power Room. You'd probably need the right combination of bad luck by forgetting certain key places with traps screwing you over, or fighting enemies which you have no capability for dealing with their weak points.
I certainly didn't find the red gun in Floor 4, but given that I didn't get the White Data Disk for Building 5 Floor 5, I'll just put it down to evil RNG lol. Yeah, I figured that out too late after wasting a lot of time noting down facts. The only things I've known so far to be guaranteed are the floor layouts in terms of walls and door positions, turbolifts and perhaps the location of replacement modules since I found the communications module on Building 1 Floor 1 in the exact same position as my notes.
I don't know about Bloodwych but someone I hang around with tried to stream Captive and ran into problems with both the DOS and Amiga versions lol. I'm glad to have been able to work around both problems myself, I recorded my run of the series (though I did a 100% map run instead of going for speed like you) and I'd have hated to junk the entire recording or leave it unresolved because of the bugs. The shield prototype I got at Building 5 Floor 5 actually lol. Was in a storage room, yes. The universal repair kit is nice, yeah.
I aped your use of the grenades on the DOS version. However, they don't do a damn thing there =_= I don't remember this bit at all but looking at my own recording, which will be published much much later since I'm publishing one floor a day (so another 23 days for the rest lol), I threw both grenades, lifebar's still green. I did keep shooting for a bit and finally the bar did turn yellow, so I kept shooting and hoping lol. The computer room thing, I didn't bother reading the message the first time so that's my bad >_>
      I found the lower half of a third Sphere, yeah. Never found the upper half. I don't know if anyone is immune to it, but I used it on the last floor and there was 0 encounters, which made my recording of the last floor kinda boring. However, after the BS with the missing White Data Disk, I was pretty done with the game and its nonsense by then, so I didn't even want to fight anything lol. "Doors" is annoying, but I've not had huge problems with it. The cloakers though, I take a lot of damage fighting the flying cloaker, and I totally couldn't kill a single of the bipedal cloakers with guns. I made it a point to try to at least kill everything once with a gun ^_^;;

No problem, and yeah, that is a pretty dodgy area, which is why I try to get the Proton Mine Deflector before attempting to get to it. I also remembered far too late for this playthrough that you can use the C120 grenades to destroy traps directly in front of you, d'oh! (^_^;)

Yeah i remember it was very tricky back then all this dang traps :D and i was so close ... so close like ur last 15 mins left

Indeed, I came damn near close to dying on the last building due to pretty poor preparation on my part. (*_*)
Once you get onto the later floors of Building 3 and GAR's Elite Troops start showing up, you definitely have to be a lot more careful. Like all games of this type though, it really is just a matter of resource management, as in keeping those precious grenades for the more annoying enemies that are hard to target in order to conserve your energy and minimise damage. Heh, and being aware of the traps and to best deal with them goes a long way towards achieving that goal as well. (^_~)
